    Hey I answered one of my concerns watching this, and now one more thing I'd like to understand and fix is: I like to play guitar over music, and now that I have properly connected my Kanto Tuk monitors to the UA Volt 1, my PC music doesn't sound quite the same. If I flick off the interface and go back to the other optical input I use for PC use my music sounds perfect.
    The guitar and effects sound fine in both cases... So there's some type of processing or something going on I reckon

    • @darrenhirst9900
      @darrenhirst9900 Před 3 lety

      What is the difference between balanced or unbalanced?
      Balanced audio uses three conductors to carry the audio signal. Two of the conductors carry negative and positive signals (audio is an AC signal), and the third is used for grounding. With an unbalanced signal, there are only two conductors. One carries positive, the carries negative and is also used for ground. The advantage of a balanced signal is that because the ground is seperate from the negative conductor, there is less chance that radio frequency interferance will get into the audio signal.
      Generally, +4 db, balanced signal are the way to go for long cable runs. The high gain and isolated ground make for a cleaner, noise-free signal. If cable runs are shorter, there should be no problem with RF interferance or noise on unbalanced, -10 db signals. If you have RF problems in your studio, you probably have some kind of ground fault, and it's a good idea to have it checked out by an electrician. Typical studios have both +4 and -10 db gear, so the important thing there is to make sure gain stages match all the way through the signal chain. The biggest cause of noise and distortion in audio is mismatched gain.

    I just got studio monitors and when I got everything hooked up, I got this awful crackling, electrical interference. When I played my guitar or keyboard, I could hear them but still got the interference. I learned that this is actually a common issue with a custom built computer. The usb cable transfers the sound from inside the computer to the speakers. I found something called IDefender that actually cancels the ground loop which causes the interference. I ordered it and it's supposed to be in today. I'm really hoping this solves my problem. I'm ready to do some recording again.

    I may just be confused and uneducated on MIDI controlled audio devices that can be used with two balanced studio monitors, but never the less, I've had my KRKS for over 6 months (Connected with unbalanced cables) and up until now, I could not figure out how to set both up with balanced cables. Currently using Scarlett Solo which only allows one balanced connection. (Upgrading to Scarlett 2i2 right now on amazon.) (PS. you should make an affiliate link!) Again, Thank you man. I hope your channel continues to grow and I wish you the best of in life.

    • @Quicksilver_Cookie
      @Quicksilver_Cookie Před 2 lety

      Scarlett Solo has 2 balanced outputs, which are just like shown on the video. However, it's important to remember that TRS 1/4" cables carry stereo signal. You can output a mono signal to each of the two speakers in stereo from a single TRS out if you use a Y-splitter cable, if you ever have the need.

    Great explanation of balanced vs unbalanced - thanks!. I have a semi-related question: I have a Scarlett Solo and use it to connect my guitar to my PC for use with Amplitube 4. I am getting tired of having to use headphones while playing (I rarely record - I just like to play using the amp variety and options in Amplitube). I would like to know if I can use studio monitors while playing (BTW - I do not play loud - usually.... ;). Can I use monitors (instead of headphones) and if so, are there any you recommend (under $300 for the pair)? Thanks!

    • @l04d83

      Yes, you can. It's how i have been playing bass. Though idk of a good sub 300$ pair, as it'a hard to find such things. I guess any monitor with a 5 or 6 inch sub would work great with eletric guitar.

    Hello, i have the Uphoria um2, and i want to buy the rokit5, do the monitors sound worse with the RCA cable? Should i change my interface?? Thankss

    good vid, but you should make all of your connections and then plug in the input. I've been watching all these vids about audio processors for computer-studio monitors, but it doesn't make sense to invest this much money for what it is. You can just buy a DJ amp or even a home audio pre-amp and run either passive speakers or active speakers, respectively, for similar cost and be able to get higher power, quality, and can expand later. Unless, you are traveling.
