    Thank you. I just recently had A ductless AC installed in my room and i keep the temp set to 66-68 and constantly running. I just noticed white mold ALL OVER my room and i had a feeling it was from the AC but wasnt sure why. Ill keep my AC on auto and set at atleast 72. Thank you again

    Thanks for your service to our country… and for this info.
    I’ve been doing a lot of research because I live in an apartment and all of a sudden noticed mold growing, and by the time I realized it it was growing in many places that you don’t normally look. Behind furniture between toy boxes. It was a real problem or should I say is a real problem. Now I’m left to remediate it myself. Luckily I caught it before it started growing on sheet rock etc. however, because it’s due to humidity (of course) my apartment insurance will not cover any of my belongings or mold remediation. So I’m stuck replacing furniture belongings etc. and doing the remediation myself. I had no idea that running my air conditioner in the “on” Position would cause that much humidity. The apartment association says that because they didn’t cause it, they won’t help with remediation. Oh… Seems like it would make sense to put some kind of a warning by the thermostat not to run your AC in the on position. I mean technically, I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary with the AC system as far as the lay person knows. Of course this happens right when the temperature changed, so until next summer I won’t know if there’s still a humidity problem running the AC on auto all the time. The HVAC people are the same people that on the building so, of course they’re going to blame it on me. They say the AC is running 100% normal. It’s not like I always run the AC any on position, but it may have been that way for a couple weeks I’m not sure. I had a family member in the ICU for the entire summer so I was not home much. Such a nightmare though. Mold can really Wreak havoc

      I’d recommend running at least one after market dehumidifier. Those will help to reduce your indoor humidity.

    Thanks for the tips. I'm so paranoid about mold. I run my a.c. at 77. It's been a bit chilly here in SW Florida. I put the thermostat on heat, and set it on 74 ,that's warm enough ,just warm enough to take the chill off. Am I doing it right???

    This was very informative and useful. Wish I lived in Hawaii- we have too much humidity here in the Mid-Atlantic, summer or winter! We clean our window units each Spring, but what about our 2 mini-splits??

    • @charleswells5485
      @charleswells5485  Před 2 lety

      Your mini splits are fairly easy to clean as well Pamela. If you don't want to do that, you can also have a licensed HVAC tech clean them. I also recommend running a dehumidifier in your home (2 if you have a home over 2500 square feet).

      Mini-splits should also be cleaned regularly Pamela. A dehumidifier is also a great investment to lower RH in your home and reduce mold growth.

    Very informative video! What do you think of installing a uv light in the duct? I have mould in my duct so Iam told had to clean a few walls and soak vents In bleach, painted walls with mould resistance paint… and I am getting a Dehumidifier…

    • @charleswells5485
      @charleswells5485  Před 2 lety

      UV light does discourage mold growth Brian, but so does lowering the humidity inside those ducts. I recommend two steps: Ensure you are not setting your AC too cold. Ideally the air coming out of your ducts should be above the dew point. Running a dehumidifier (2 if your house is >2500 sq. ft.) will also go a long way to discouraging mold growth.

      A dehumidifier will be a great ally in your fight against mold Brian!

      @@charleswells5485 Oh definitely! I noticed immediately when I got a dehumidifier, That my house was comfortable at 72°, whereas I had to always run my air conditioning at 66 to 68° for it to not feel like it was sweltering. The humidity will make it feel 10° hotter

    Thank you for this video. My hubby just had an AC installed in the garage and now we’re seeing mold. His solution is to get a humidifier but that won’t get rid of the mold spots on the garage walls. I read somewhere the solution is to clean the walls with bleach do you agree or is a different solution needed?

    • @charleswells5485
      @charleswells5485  Před rokem

      Cleaning the walls will help, but the sure way to get rid of mold, is to reduce the humidity in the garage. A dehumidifier will help a great deal.

    78? Yeah ok, I’ll have a permanent batwing

    And if you live in an area where it’s too noisy to have your windows at night and try to run your ac when it’s around 59F your evaporator coil will get extremely cold causing frost or major condensation in your ducting system.
