  • Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep has become one of the most loved and quoted funeral poems across the world. First, we read it and then discuss its background and universal appeal.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there… I do not sleep.
See the video for a full reading of the poem.
Do Not stand at My Grave and Weep is one of the most inspirational and uplifting of all funeral poems. For many years, no one was sure who had written it, or who they wrote it for, until American author Abigail van Buren carried out some research.
The poem has since become woven into popular culture, and even featured in the American TV series Desperate Housewives in Karen McCluskey’s tribute to Ida. It has also been set to music by internationally acclaimed composers like Howard Goodall, and performed as a song by Katherine Jenkins, Mairead Farrell and others.
It remains popular today, with its positive message of living on through the natural world providing comfort and solace to those who are grieving.

For my dearest best friend Rachel who passed away on the 8/2/2022 , I'm gonna miss you so so much , your infectious laugh your cheeky smile , if only I could see you one last time , to tell you how much I love you and how much you meant to me , my heart feels empty a massive hole you've left behind , why does God only take the best, the life and soul of a party now everything seems so quiet , I'll never ever forget you my bestie who always caused a riot, I hope your dancing in the sky and bopping to the beat , with that infectious laugh and cheeky smile and chunky little feet , I was so blessed to have you in my life I dont know what I'm going to do , I feel so lost and empty without you rach so until my life is through, I'll try remember the laughs we had and always think of you 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭

Just to be accurate, that is not who wrote the original poem - "Kansas native Clare Harner (1909-1977) first published "Immortality" in the December 1934 issue of poetry magazine The Gypsy.[1][2] It was written shortly after the sudden death of her brother. Harner's poem quickly gained traction as a eulogy and was read at funerals in Kansas and Missouri. It was soon reprinted in the Kansas City Times and the Kansas City Bar Bulletin."
