I saw her with her son on the A train once near Chinatown. She seemed very normal and friendly.

I am a Native New Yorker and take the subway all the time - I saw JFK Jr on it back in the 1990's. Real New Yorkers take the subway - efficiency.

Using a car to get around the densest place in the country seems crazier than riding the subway
A friend of mine bought his sister's car, and I told him I commended her for having the courage to even own a car in NYC. Just finding parking, street or rented, is a nightmare.
Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick also ride the subway constantly. I have run into both of them at various times, several times actually, and they are both down-to-earth, lovely people.

Everything gets blown out of proportion regarding NYC. Of course there is crime and you have to be aware, but among the BIG cities in the country, it's actually one of the safest. For four years I rode the subway from home at 11pm - 12am to get to my overnight job in Manhattan. Nothing ever happened
I had more problems with crime in LA, Chicago, Atlanta..etc
