fultz being a better trade asset than simmons puts into perspective how things have changed
*MCW
Damn. Thats... damn....
Oof. That’s just crazy
after looking at the graphic I was wondering how they'd incorporate Simmons here cuz his performance this year is anything but improbable. Well done Bill.
That’s wild! Love that take. It’s true but if You told people that before his last playoffs in Philly, people would have laughed at you. How times change wonder how Ben will look in 2 years time.
Fultz getting past his issues was a little surprising. Ben Simmons turning into a basket case AFTER being a 3x all-star and making an all-NBA and all-defense is shocking.
Props to Jacoby for calling out the ticket prices like he did.
That is what really makes load management awful. You pay an arm and a leg to go to a game, and then you find out the starters are all sitting. I live in the Bay Area, so my team is the Warriors. I went to a game earlier this year, my first Warriors game, and I was lucky that Steph, Klay, and Dray were all playing and none were sitting out. However, I would feel so fucking cheated if I paid all that money to go to a game and I didn’t get to watch any of them.
@@julianbell9161 Yeah, that's the reason they all get payed millions after all, because people want to watch.
He also implied people aren't going to games as much and we know the tv ratings have been bad for a long time aka no one cares about the nba
@@Skillsvalin if people didn’t care they wouldn’t be making all this money brodie the NBA is international
@@Dipset415 Disney snd tnt gives them a boat load of money for people not to watch, hence why the TV deals grow every few years. That's the majority of revenue.
I will never understand why we don’t get more Bill Simmons video content
U OWN A CONTENT MACHINE BILL
He uploads podcasts all the time. They just don’t upload that many clips to CZcams, but he provides a ton of content on his podcast.
@@julianbell9161 I get that. Hence, “Video” content

The Grizzlies turning heel is the least surprising thing ever
Young teams that talk shit before they’ve done shit are always on a knife’s edge and one wrong move away from being hated
For real. Like, WTF did they think was going to happen?!
Seriously, they were a heel last year. Dillon Brooks is a dirt bag, and has been for years.
@@dearmas9068 like Literally i remember Richard Jefferson predicting this happening last off season OR around early this season
Props to Bill for calling out Adam Silver 👏
Yeah, I think that has been the undercurrent I've noticed since I started watching again the last year or so. People are complaining, and there doesn't seem to be any direction for the league.
Brian Windhorst has as well but just not as bluntly as Bill, for obvious reasons. Adam silver is just a poor leader with no backbone. He pretty much gave the players the league and the freedom to do what they want, and now we see the result in full bloom. He empowered the players and deemphasized fan importance.
Skeletor
@@Riles3152 he empowered the wrong player(lebron james)🤦🏿♂️
@Phillip Riles kornheiser has been on him for years "we don't have a living breathing commissioner in the NBA". It was a joke based in reality
Something tells me the Udoka situation was much more serious than the Celtics, media, and NBA want to admit and they’re burying him to not be a bad look on the league.
More serious how?? What could’ve happened? Rape?
I agree. 👍🏻 I think that he may have pressured the woman (women???) he was involved with to have sex with him by threatening her (their???) job(s). 🤷🏻♂️
@@johnbrowntheprophet or, he was just smashing alot of top executive wives, and the execs themselves didn’t want to be embarrassed by it being public info.
The thought it was his superiors wife meaning the husband had a bigger job the udoka
The Celtics didn't bury it, they've made it clear Udoka crossed a line and didn't participate in any conversation to downplay what happened
I think one of the biggest problems TBH is all this money the players are making. When you give a early to mid 20 something year-old young man 100 or $200+ million, then unless you have an incredibly rare mindset like a Jordan or a Kobe or even a Giannis, where your drive and motivation is something well beyond a bag, then It would make sense that for a lot of these players who are just blessed with incredible talent and ability but may not necessarily love the game like that, that basically this max contract is their “championship” and whatever happens on the court is neither here nor there. I feel like a lot of players making all this money low-key have that mentality.
Yeah, but that was an issue in the 90s as well. I think something needs to be done, to hold players accountable. Maybe trade kickers, or partially guaranteed contracts. Something to make them give a shit after they get their bag. And the owners are not faultless either.
Soccer stars in Europe are making an insane amount of money at a young age too, but you don’t hear this narrative there.
It’s not about the money, but the terms of the contract.
I think most people have that attitude with every job lol. If I got $200m guaranteed, I'd never try hard again.
I love what the kings have been doing. I remember when Mike Brown didn't get any respect for our record when he coached us to the finals. but now that he's gotten a chance to show what he's learned, he's got them looking good! Honestly, they really do remind me of how my warriors looked when Steve Kerr got here. Mike has that offense COOKING, and they're running a lot of similar stuff to what we run. Obviously it's not the exact same cause there's only one Steph, but it makes sense to put in the same concepts with their roster. They've got a big that can pass, multiple young guys who can shoot, and a really awesome fun loving culture. I can't wait to see where the Kings go from here.
Didn’t know you were on the team. Big ups!
@@diablosportscreme You're five years late with your attempt at an insult/humor. Lol.
I miss seeing Jacoby on tv again having fun with Jalen as well as their podcast.
Is the “Jalen and Jacoby” podcast done? Is it no longer a thing? 🤔
@@johnbrowntheprophet yeah it’s over, jacobys not with ESPN anymore
Brunson has been amazing. But, talk about the Hart trade. Hart is shooting 61% from the field, and 63% from 3 since the trade.
I live in Australia and I don’t think Ben Simmons would make a team here in the NBL. His decline is mind boggling
I WOULD PAY HIGH AMOUNTS OF MONEY TO WATCH A CONVERSATION BETWEEN AARON RODGERS & BEN SIMMONS
As a Warriors fan, I could not disagree with Jacoby’s first point more. I watched Brooks intentionally injure GP2 and try to fuck over the Warriors last playoffs. I watched Ja and Brooks brag about how this is their league after winning 1 playoff series. I’ve never found these new Grizzlies likable in any way. The old Grizzlies with Gasol and Conley were way more likable.
If the season was shorter we will have the same issues because in the NBA contracts are GUARANTEED! If games played were scaled with their salary then players will actually play.
Their will never be a shorter season because that means less money for everyone
Exactly. A shorter season wouldn't solve the issue. If the clippers only played 16 games regular season games, they'd rest kawhi and George for 10 of them.
The solution has to hurt the star players financially to sit out when they're not injured and owners can't charge full price for load management games.
Just make teams able to cut players and only take a moderate cap hit for 1 year like the NFL. Ben Simmons would have been cut 18 months ago and had to have worked his ass off to get paid again.

Bill’s facial delight when the Shannon Sharpe incident is brought up in a nutshell is why he’s my favorite basketball talking head

That grizzlies take aged TREMENDOUSLY
Fox is one of the best 2 way guards in the NBA he has great offense and defense I love his game he's legit.
Great offensive player avg defender at best.
@@superdopehiphop He can get scrambled in the pick and roll, but his on-ball, point-of-attack defense is fairly underrated
Did you know Simmons had Clippers season tickets? Spotted 8:20
I love these type of comments lol
@@BabylonGateLA Jayson Tatum was also mentioned but I just get too tired.... 🤣
That cut mid talk about Ime Udoka was Bill telling them what happened with Ime.
That shaman sitting behind him on the bench line fucking killed me
I totally agree with the "where's Adam Silver" thing Bill threw out around the 22ish minute mark. The lack of a parent in the NBA has become a huge problem. My dad took me to the Nets @ Bulls game on 2/24 (purchased in December), and by the time we were ready to go to the game we were going to see a Nets team without Durant or Kyrie because they decided to remain true to character and lash out midseason, whilst Simmons sat on the bench the entire game because he had a boo boo.
Fans shouldn't have to cross their fucking fingers that a single star plays the night of the game they go to.
Silver is an absolute joke. He's so terrified of offending the players because of their melanin content
Adam Silver one hit the nail on the head!!!
As far as the load management problem: why don’t more people talk about doing away with back-to-back games?
I think they tried to lessen that by starting the season couple of weeks earlier. It's just that it's really hard to schedule 82 games for 30 teams.
You often see games teams playing with each other back to back with the scheduling now. Gotta agree with lesser games.
In short, its not a bad idea, but that wouldn't help.
Arenas have conflicts all the time with a ton of events: especially in states with multiple teams. So you can't really avoid back to backs unless you lengthen the regular season timeline (ie, a shorter off-season/preseason which the players probably won't agree to or benefit from).
@@Weaponator18 a longer season to eliminate b2bs would for sure benefit their careers, but they are probably too short sighted to see that. And why wouldn't they when they can just keep doing what they've been doing
It is great to see Jacoby! I miss Jalen and Jacoby! Give him a show on the ringer.
Gotta give the people what they want!
The ultimate problem of playing less games will smack head on into the ultimate problem of games being too expensive to attend. With a 60-70 game regular season schedule, prices will SKY ROCKET. Not because it's reasonable for the league, or for fans, or for players, or for professional sports in general, but because the BILLIONAIRE owners need to accumulate MORE money and power. As an ordinary citizen, in a failing economic system, it's becoming increasingly difficult to relate to any kind of professional sport based on the sheer amount of wealth it sucks from the bottom to the top. (and as a full disclosure, I'm doing fairly well, with an upper middle class government job.)
Great take by bill on silver I totally agree. I’m in my mid 20s been a diehard NBA fan my whole life I’m a Celtics fan and they always play which is awesome. However, I think I speak for me and a lot of my friends when I say that 10 years ago the NBA was just better people cared more people play more games it’s just kind of a shame to see
Kings are fun. It's nice to see their success.
Love seeing Jacoby again bill continues to find ways to make basketball more interesting truely a brilliant basketball mind

Exactly. Popovich did this for Duncan. Not a surprise he's doing it again.

@@MacNif Well, yeah. He benched a seemingly healthy David Robinson, lost 60 games, and ended up w/ Duncan. He's tanking again, in the hopes of landing Wembenyama.
I like Bill’s take on Silver. Dude has been very vacant. League has problems - don’t bury your head in the sand, Silver.
Love that I finally got some hard truth on record by one of the best in the game on how there is a serious sitting out games problem. If I was me 25 years ago would I be watching now, I’m not sure
Someone came up with great idea - teams that dont make playoff get to play march madness kind of tournament for draft picks - winner gets number 1 and so on.. that would make teams want to compete and want to have a good roster in order to win number 1 pick. That would help a lot.
I want a draft of bill Simmons drafts
I could've told you from a mile away that the grizzlies were gonna get annoying really fast. Every other team that has acted like them in the past has become unlikeable. Add onto it physical and sometimes dirty play, and it was easy to predict. As a warriors fan, I already disliked them, but Brooks injuring Gary Payton ii really made me hate them
When Bill said "What would stern do"? It reminded me of the early 2000's WWJD (what would Jesus do🤔 ) congratulations 🎊 👏🏾 💐 🥳 Mr.Simmons, I'm going to subscribe to your channel, you have won me over.
A Jacoby sighting!! Got to give the peeeeeeeeeople.. give the people what they want!
Hey I grew up going to New Jersey nets games! I loved it. Petrovic, Kenny Anderson, Coleman! Then Kidd, Kenyon Martin and RJ! I loved it!
Then Ja pulled out the whistle. FANTASTIC first pick!
Jacoby nailed it, there’s way too many regular season games. 58 games would explode the interest in the regular season instantly as well as eliminating the majority of the load management issues.
My problem with 60 games is that the games are gonna be even more expensive.
and players will still sit out games
Nothing will be solved by shortening the NBA season
@@nikolakrstic8079 nah
The games would be more important
They gotta make there money
And every game would matter because of the play off seeding
House rocking 2 mics. This is leadership
So less regular season games, and put a rule in place where you must play x number of games to be eligible for end of season awards, (MVP, all NBA etc). You'll get every star player, playing as much as possible and load management will at least be cut way back.
That Fultz take is TRUTH. He is spectacular.
Jacoby and Bill were so terribly wrong about the kings trade for sabonis and now they're sitting here smiling ear to ear about the team. 🤣
“It’s my brother pop from the barber shop told me he was in the gambling spot and got the intricate plot” 🤣 (Ja) 🤣 😂
Accurate on the Adam Silver take
The league is definitely being ruined
Best take ever, (tired of Adam Silver) a league missing the parent figure.
He’s so weak. He’s terrified of any confrontation. He isn’t trying to solve any of the issues with the product.
This a far more enjoyable post that almost all the other media posts these past few months - not filled with cliches or obvious takes - good chemistry and enthusiasm . Indeed, Jacoby is much more in his element in this format than in his show with Jalen. I knew it was going to be good when Jacoby started with his take on the Grizzlies rather than some BS abut the Lakers, Nets et al.
Yeah, this was really fun. Grantland had a ton of talent. Zach Lowe, Jacoby, Barnwell, Goldsberry.
Bill’s pick was crazy to hear out loud
I would pay money to hear what House had to say about the 2 Ben Simmons comparison.
Silver refuses to address the real problems with the league (archaic technology for video reviews, too many stoppages of play, the lack of competitiveness in the All-Star game etc.) and only looks at gimmicks to improve the product (or distract us from the real issues), which they won't. In fact they will only worsen the product by cheapening it, which he'll address by coming up with more gimmicks and so on and so forth. He has hurt the game throughout his tenure outside of his strong stance against racism, which - while absolutely deserving of respect and full applause on its own - has bought him a disproportionate amount of credit for the underwhelming job he has done running the NBA. Curry and LeBron bailed him out for a while. Without them at their peak, his decision-making has been exposed.
2003 and 2009 All-Star games were actually solid in my opinion.
I agree about Adam Silver. And who is the next guy? Right now, no idea.
Get Poppovich. :D
That cut while talking about Udoka haha
I agree about the Terrance Mann take.
Yeah, it's funny. I hear from NBA fans that Ty Lue is a good coach, and he'll figure out the Westbrook fit. And then I hear from Clippers fans that he's a terrible coach and has terrible rotations. :D Which one watches him more? :D
Crazy to think that tix are expensive even for Jacoby! I'm sure he's doing pretty well as an ESPN talent, too.
Light The Beam!!!!!!!! Kings.
Lasor incident is low key the worst thing to happen since the malice in the palace. NBA should have done something as guns were being pointed at NBA players after a game, insane 😮
Kawhi played almost 48 minutes in a an all time classic game and Adam Silver was mad about it. The biggest stretch of Kawhi playing kind of consistently and it only upsets Silver. Silver's going to double down on the degradation of the regular season's value if anything.
Yeah, my pick was GSW’s road record/shit record to piggyback on Bill’s last one. No one would have ever expected that.
As Jacoby was talking about Huerter and was like “I don’t know what it is”, I said out loud, “he’s an unathletic white guy who can shoot” then he said “he’s a white guy from America” 😂😂
Bones Hyland has got to be so pissed rn 😂
The Goebert trade is maybe the worst in NBA history, but, given that Ainge already fleeced the Nets a decade ago, I can't understand how ANY GM trades w/ him at all.
Cavs didnt get fleeced
It ain’t going to be the worst trade when we win a ring.
@@flip-antonio8425 lol...
Players that don't play because of load management (non injury, non excused absences) should be required to spend 2 hours before or after a game signing autographs or posing for pics with kids.
That's a good idea.
You guys think this might make for an interesting all star game?
Re-doing the All Star game as follows:
4 Teams:
Best under 23's
Best 23-26
Best 27-29
Best 30 and over
Play half games - 2 quarters
Semifinals
Over 30's vs Under 23's
23-26 vs 27-29
Championship - winners of the two semifinals
I would just go back to conference teams and give the winning conference home court advantage for the finals
Flyers' Kate Smith, the Blues' Gloria. They become mythical in their cities.
To me the issue with players being load managed and only caring to play some small percentage of regular season games is a fundamental problem with the fact that regular season games meaning nothing as long as you make the playoffs. In soccer the team that wins the league in the top European leagues is the team that is consistently the best over the entire season and then the winner of the champions league is the team that wins in soccer's equivalent of the playoffs. That means that the teams play hard every week to win the league and then also play hard to win the tournament at the end as well. Ultimately if there is no incentive for teams to win every regular season game they're not gonna care to try hard in every regular season game, end of story.
Guaranteed contracts are the worst thing to ever happen to the NBA. These guys simply DGAF. Honestly, if I got $200m guaranteed to work the next 4 years, I wouldn't work very hard either. Most people wouldn't.
Me first listening to this episode: "I don't really get outside of some cockiness from a young team why everyone hates the Grizzlies all the sudden".
30 minutes later: Ja Morant punches kid story comes.
Me after: "Ok, I kinda get it now".
If there's less games, wouldn't the TV rights deals from the major companies have roughly the same amount of games? Assuming the length of season is the same. That does cut off from the local broadcast though.
BEAM TEAM GETTING OUR RESPECT.
Also, am i the only one who loves what the grizzlies have done this season? Theyre like must watch TV now no matter the opponent. Im from sacramento but i like the grizz even more now.
As a Philly fan, I think of Ty Lue being stepped over in Game 1 of the 2001 NBA finals. Those guys were so cheezy. Him dressing up like AI and doing all that headgame BS. He got walked in that game. And for me that's where it all ended. I forget about the following four games and the rest of Ty Lue's playing and coaching career.
Hey Philly fan, you forgot about the four games after game 1 of those finals because the 76ers lost all of them. Gentlemen sweep.
@@NelGill1only team that year to give the Kobe prime Shaq Lakers an L in the playoffs
Jacoby talks about NBA games being too expensive, what does he think happens to ticket prices if they cut the number of games
What did they say David Jacoby produced? I couldn't understand the title
Introduce a sick pay for players and and once players miss certain amount games for
Load management unless example after ten games start docking pay for every after that they miss, unless they missing time due to actual injuries that their get
A lot corporate companies do this they will cover you for full pay for certain amount but after a certain time amount it goes to half pay and then less after depending on situation
Idk if this is another reason why the league is losing viewership but I'm a huge basketball fan and I work 2 jobs to support myself and a lot of people I know work 2 jobs. It's impossible to catch any of the games when you're working from afternoon to early morning
Imagine following any Thunder writer and being able to know that we are resting SGA because he's injured, not because we are trying to lose.
How to fix load management: If a player DNPs without a doctor saying it is necessary for their health, make their stats all 0's for that night.
What did jacoby say y’all had to cut lmaooo
I honestly don’t love Jacoby on TV but this right here is his type of environment.
Ben Simmons to golden state - becomes an all star again…
Ben Simmons to Golden State is still rocked with mental issues and a high probability that he doesn’t really care about the game or reaching his potential.
Steps in and replaces Dray when he leaves.
is that Mick Foley in the picture over Bills shoulder???
I agree with Adam Silver is letting this league slip away a little more everyday.
Also I disagree we don’t need less games. If we take games away they will increase incredibly more in price to attend. Less games isn’t the answer. Lastly, I don’t think expansion is the answer but also needs to happen.
the St Louis Blues gimmick that beat the Bruins was 'glorious'
Jacoby looks like Nostradamus roght before the Ja gun suspension
The answer is to stretch the schedule. Pretty simple. More rest is scheduled. Not rocket science.
The thing I wish Bill would point out is that the Load Management thing is being driven by THE TEAMS. The players are just following their front offices team nutritionists/doctors/injury experts. If this was just the players, and the owners weren't on board, does anyone with common sense think the Commish office would be fine with this?
Simmons made him a hunnid... He won👍🏾📠💯🤣
As a t-wolves fan, I hated Ja and the grizzlies last year, everything that has happened has just confirmed my bias.
Light the beam!
Messi and Ronaldo are actually two good examples how you don't need a player from your country to be a great symbol of your league. What the US are living now with the european players the europeans football leagues were into in the 80's and 90's
Bill can sometimes get pretentious with his "I'm the real
Smart guy in the room" attitude but he also has his highlights, he was completely spot on with how little of a crap nba players care about actually doing the thing theyre paid to do and the thing fans pay thousands of dollars to pay to watch them do. And somehow if you bring it up "YOU HATE THE PLAYERS!! YOU WANT THEM TO BE SLAVES TO THE LEAGUE" like no bro theyre in the most player friendly american sports league by far, most fans actually are on board with it, its not alot to ask a player who gets paid off the fact that people tune in to watch games on tv, buy merchandise, pay the for overpriced seats, and buy the mostly crap sneakers they sell to actually do the one things theyre asked to do.
Wtf was that last line from Bill? "You know who wasn't a winner? Team LeBron!" Tf lol
Took Bill 8 minutes to mention a Clippers game.
