they sang this song at my best friend's funeral. every word was perfect. he was literally the best kind of person. just brought light to everyone he came into contact with. and he definitely rewrote my story by being my friend. i miss him. he was like a brother to me.

The choir sang this at my graduation earlier this year; at the time, my uncle (who was the closest person to a dad I ever had) was in hospice with brain cancer. My mom broke down crying when she heard this at the graduation. Two days later, as my uncle lay in a coma, I sang this to him because I knew it would be the last time I saw him (the nurse told me people still hear things until the moment they're gone). This song still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.

I’m so sorry for your loss, but that is a wonderful message thank you.
People come and go, just like the song says; “people come into our lives for a reason” I am 101% sure your uncle loved you very much. Moving on isnt easy, i understand. Thank you again.

Here I am, coming back to this song years later because I needed to hear it. I met the best friend I’ve ever had when I was 16. We were thick as thieves and called each other sister. When she transferred schools and I graduated hs, she was afraid we would lose touch. So I played this for her as a way to let her know that she can always call me if she needs to. Turns out that was fine and we went on to go through a lot together. I became the godmother to her children, and moved halfway across the country to help her out when she was struggling. Every time we had troubles or one of us moved, we would play this. Today we are approaching the two year anniversary of the day she died, and I just needed to hear it again, because whatever else happens, she will absolutely be there like a handprint branded on my heart. I know no one will probably see this, but I needed to tell someone how much this song means to me. It is healing in so many ways, and a beautiful expression of loss.

I'm *extremely* impressed by their ability to sing different words and different melodies at the same time. Whenever I try to do that, I end up just singing the other person's part unless I plug my ears (which obviously wouldn't work on stage). xD

    • @opalcat0000
      @opalcat0000 Před 2 lety +8

I agree but I know how to sing with diffrent notes as another person at the same time. I’m going to sing this song in a showcase glindas part. The trick is to tune them out. Don’t pay attention to their words and just sing yours. Also just letting you know I’m not trying to brag and please don’t get offended with me saying I can do it. All it takes is a little practice

    • @TheMinm6
      @TheMinm6 Před 2 lety +7

It takes a LOT of practice. And some confidence that you are singing the right thing. It used to trip me up because I didn't think i was singing the right thing. But after I gained a little more confidence, mostly by practicing, I got over it

It really is difficult, but it can be learned. I had to learn how when I was on a worship team at my church, especially since as a female vocalist, part of my role was to sing harmony. Now I can kinda figure out how to sing harmony for certain songs because I got used to it through practice and “performing.”

Having just relistened to the wicked soundtrack, I have to say the best thing the writers did was focus on Elphaba and Glinda's relationship. There are definitely aspects of the musical that I think pale in comparison to the novel but it absolutely makes up for it with their relationship to each other. It's really the core heart of this story and what I always remember the most of is their scenes. When I finished watching this musical for the first time, it just totally hit me how much the beginning number sucked for Glinda because she just lost her best friend and is surrounded by people who are actively celebrating her death. No one mourns the wicked, except for Glinda. And this song is just- easily the best song in the entire show, hands down. It's the culmination of both characters growth, a moment of full realization and the last time they ever see each other.
"Who can say if I've been changed for the better/ I have been changed for good", I always come back to that line because defining what good actually means is the thesis of Wicked and the writers really captured the spirit of it in this moment.
And I think this song hits especially hard for anyone who's ever had a friend they no longer talk to or are even able to see anymore. So many of us are shaped by the people we're with, and that stays with us long after the person is gone.

Tonight at our last eighth grade dance, we all had a great time in the beginning, But as the time went by, everyone had broken into tears. It was then that we realized that we hadn't seen each other in the way we first thought. I wish my classmates good luck. This song will always be important to us in every way possible.

I'm a sophomore in high school and a huge drama geek. Every night before a performance, we sit in a circle and share our thoughts about the show and the people, and the work we've done on it, and then we listen to this song. It has the most memories of any song I've ever known. It makes me look back on a ll the people I've known in drama and all the good times we've all had, even though we've all gone different ways and I won't see some of them ever again.

This was played at my husband's funeral on 27th May 2016. I love it, and so did he, and when I'm finding it difficult to make sense of his death I listen, and cry, and try to convince myself that things will get better. All manner of things shall be well.

    ELPHABA
    I'm limited:
Just look at me - I'm limited
And just look at you -
You can do all I couldn't do, Glinda
So now it's up to you
    (spoken) For both of us
(sung) Now it's up to you:
    GLINDA
    I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
    Bringing something we must learn
    And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
    If we let them
And we help them in return
    Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
    Because I knew you:
Like a comet pulled from orbit
    As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
    Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
    But because I knew you
I have been changed for good
    ELPHABA
    It well may be
That we will never meet again
    In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
    So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
    You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
    By being my friend:
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
    In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
    But because I knew you:
    GLINDA
    Because I knew you:
BOTHI have been changed for good
    ELPHABA
And just to clear the air
    I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done you blame me for
    GLINDA
But then, I guess we know
    There's blame to share
    BOTH
And none of it seems to matter anymore
    GLINDA ELPHABA
Like a comet pulled Like a ship blown
From orbit as it Off it's mooring
Passes a sun, like By a wind off the
A stream that meets Sea, like a seed
    A boulder, half-way Dropped by a
Through the wood Bird in the wood
    BOTH
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better?
    GLINDA
    And because I knew you:
    ELPHABA
    Because I knew you:
    BOTH
    Because I knew you:
I have been changed for good.

On my final show night I gave out green lollipops saying "You'll be with me like a handprint on my heart. And now whatever way our stories end, I know you have re-written mine by being my friend." I think this song truly encompasses senior year and I will be singing it with my best friend at our closing concert. xxx

I came to this song b/c of the story of the 2 mothers who share 1 heart! 1 Mother lives in Augusta N.Y., the other mother in Eugene Oregon. The mother in NY lost her son in a car accident and did “Organ Donation”. As she was saying “Goodbye” to her son, she stroked his head and sang him “For Good” (from the musical Wicked) as she said her “Goodbye.” Meanwhile…….. the boys HEART was flown across the country to Oregon state and as the mother who’s son received the transplanted HEART, (since she wasn’t allowed to hold him), she stroked his head after the operation and the first thing she did was sing him the song “For Good” (from the musical Wicked). YEARS later the 2 mothers would finally meet and upon sharing their inter-most feelings about each of their experiences and profound moments with their sons, they LEARNED that BY COINCIDENCE they BOTH stroked their heads and sang the song “FOR GOOD”!!! They both came on X Factor to share their story by SIGNING this song TO EACH OTHER and spread awareness on the importance of Organ donation. Incredible! And it’s also interesting too that the receiving mother & son lived in Oregon (Organ) EuGENE Oregon no less?! 😮 What an incredible story and I had to listen to the lyrics and reflect on how each mother must have felt signing this to their sons in that moment. 🙏❤

I was in elementary school at the time and one night my mom gets a call, while I’m leaving my school dance. She seemed upset and so I convinced her to tell me what was wrong.
