NERD ALERT: throughout the show, it's been Galinda/Glinda singing the higher parts and Elphaba singing the lower harmonies and melodies. In a song where they have "changed for good" their singing parts are reversed. I always thought that was neat.

C.J. Mancini well I mean idina did have some tuff vocal damage after performing as Elphie and there were other actresses who played elphie that didn’t suffer from vocal damage, suggesting that their practices were healthier, and “better.” Idina is an amazing actress but there were others who seemed to perform the role just as, if not even more better than idina.

I’m now currently getting my degree in music performance to eventually get an education degree to teach like her. She was incredibly talented and did so much for our community and especially our music department. She also got to work with Broadway superstars. She always got lead roles in musical theater shows. She was a real life Mary Poppins. No one could’ve ever expected this would happen.

They had so much chemistry when they were in the show together. You can just tell how close they became working together, and how easily they sing this song together, how beautifully and easily they harmonize together. There’s just so much love there between the two of them, it’s beautiful. I mean, when they hold hands during the end of the song, and then they hug after. You can see they truly love each other.

For the record: these two do NOT hate each other! That rumor was born out of sexism and a fascination with women fighting. After all, you don't hear rumors about Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad hating each other. Or Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. Hell, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Leslie Odem Jr. played two men who faced off in a DUEL, and they were both up for Best Leading Actor in a Musical this year, but you don't hear stuff like "Oh, Lin hates Leslie!" or "Leslie wishes he could actually shoot Lin!" So, why are we hearing it about Idina and Kristen? It completely misses the point of Wicked.

My father put me up for adoption at birth because he was very mentally ill and not financially stable. He spent a lifetime mourning the loss of his daughter (me), unable to move on but believing that he made the right choice. I met him almost two years ago, he had moved around between his siblings homes, never being able to settle anywhere or commit to anything or anyone. He drove himself mad but was undoubtedly the most incredibly selfless man I ever met. He was just suffering from so much internal conflict that he could not ever be at peace. He passed in February, and this song always makes me think of him. I miss him so much.

That's what I love about songs like this. The emotions intensify, and sometimes change, over the years as you grow and gain more experience. Like with the OBC of Sondheim's Merrily. They were quite literally just kids when they recorded the cast album and performed on stage, but when they reunited for the concert performance all those years later, they were able to bring their lived experiences to the songs and shape them into something more personal than they had been. Or when Elaine Stritch sung "I'm Here" at Sondheim's 80th birthday concert, you could believe the words she was singing because she had lived so long. Or at the same concert, when an unfortunately, recently widowed Bernadette Peters sung "Not A Day Goes By" from that same birthday concert, and nearly broke down crying (you could even see her fighting back tears) because she was pulling from that experience.
It's always wonderful to see young people excited about musical theatre, and performing songs from their favorite musicals, but their performances will be lacking a bit (not bad, but missing something) until they've grown a bit and gained some experience from living life.

One thing I've always loved is the resolution of their relationship in their voices. All show long Glinda was falsetto/operatic range; while Elphie was more midrange. But in this number they flip during the climax/duet; with Glinda going lower and Elphie going higher. Signifying in their voices the impact they've had on each other.
