Explained - Zábava
I bought a new one last month and put a scope on it. I went through 6 boxes of different ammo. It shoots between a 7/8 inch and 1.25 inch groups at 100 yards from sand bags with 55 grain hunting ammo.
That really didnt happen, that was a dream you had.
The endless chatter about the Mini-14. I simply enjoy both of mine. A 182 and 580 series.
Yeah, my 580 is awesome. I have a clean gwot 6920 but the 580 is a literal hoot to shoot!
They can't let the bullshit go.They keep comparing to the AR too which is weird to because they are different guns completely.
@@williamryan9195 exactly! Both have pros and cons anyways. 😂
All those AR heads are spewing their liquid turds on the Ranch Rifle that's what's going on. Imbeciles.
I'm going to send you some new paper plates. Damn the expense!
😂
Wat a 😁 guy.
It's more tape than plate now, twisted & evil...
Are you saying people put things on the internet that may not be correct. Shocking.
The internet is only truth. Just ask it. The AI bot was coded by politicians.
I especially like it when the so-called military weapons experts on You Tube get debunked..I commented to one the other day that was trashing the platform that it was who was behind the rifle shooting it that was the problem with accuracy. He was upset and shaken.
181, 182, 183, and most 184 series Mini 14s had a 1:10 twist. Some 184 in 1986, 185, and all 186 series until 1996 had a 1:7 twist. Some 186 series in 1997 had a 1:7 while others had a 1:9 twist. All 186 to 197 series between 1998 and 2004 had a 1:9 twist. So, the ammo a Mini 14 likes will depend on YOUR rifle. Try different weights and different brands. One CZcamsr's Mini 14 shot 3" 100 yard groups with some 55 grain ammo BUT shot sub MOA with 55 grain Hornady Frontier Ammo. See what your gun likes. ALSO, another CZcamsr shot 55 grain, 68 grain, AND 75 grain ammo out to 1,000 yards and ALL were stable IN HIS GUN. I think it had a 1:7 or 1:9 twist.
You are on the right track, but you can't make completely generalized statements about Mini 14 twist rates, there were a few exceptions. Some law enforcement agencies specified different twist rates on their guns for example. I suspect that sometimes while running those contracts, other guns were run with the same tooling.
What are the twist rate on my mini 14 with 195 and 582 prefix.
Also what are the twist rate on my mini 30 with a 189 and 582 prefix.
Thank you HappyHankjr.
My Mini 14 is a 185 series made in 1990 bought new in sept. of that year. Your dates and numbers seem a little off.
I was once responsible for many, many Mini 14's, and the interwebz comments about them are often comical. They were never as bad as the keyboard commandos claim. Most of the guns I saw shot into 4" or less at 100 yards, which is within the spec for US government requirement on the M4. They are obviously not precision rifles, but for a self defense carbine at reasonable ranges, they are more than sufficiently accurate. And just for the record, it's never just about weight on the projectiles, some heavier bullets do fine in 1-10 or even 1-12 twists. It's all about specific bullets, bearing surfaces, etc. The Sierra 69 grain bullet for example, was developed around the 1-12 twists in AR's and M16's. Law enforcement also discovered this when the government started passing out old M16's with 1-12 twists, and they found that some 60-64 grain duty rounds shot just fine in them.
It shoots better than most people can manage to shoot lol
Ran some 75's H Match out of a friend's 182 this weekend and it did awesome!
Mini 14 is a 1:9 twist. It’s a rate specifically for 55g & 62g rounds. Early models had 1:10 good for lighter grain rounds then later 1:7 best for heavier grain rounds. Now 1:9 happy medium and still very good for 55g&62g ball ammunition.
I clicked on your 1:10 and it kept sending me back to him talking on his phone. How is that supposed to help me with lighter grain rounds? Did I miss something?
@@shufflnshine3097 He is talking about 1 in 10 twist. not a timestamp in the video.
Just remember mini 14 s have 3 different threading in the barrel according to the year . 1 in 10,1 in 7 and 1 in 9 .
Watching the high fps footage you can see the bullet destabilize immediately as it leaves the barrel, and it straightens out 2 meters in flight.
That's funny, I left a comment to that guy about firing tracers out of my 1976 180 series, they fly straight enough until tracer burnout after many hundreds of yards, I think they are actually 64 grains and not 62 but much longer than the normal 62gr bullets so they should be even worse
Well you are both wrong. It's not a 1in7 or 1in8... A mini 14 from 1982 would have had a 1in10 twist rate that would call for a 45gr to 55gr bullet weight. But that doesnt mean it can't handle a 62gr. bullet. Look the stories of bullets tumbling out of the barrel, or barrel whip cause the Mini 14's to have 12inch groups is horse shit. It could be many things wrong with it, like the head spacing is not set correctly, the chamber wasn't cut deep enough to the throat, or to short. Fitment of all the parts, like truing barrel to receiver, or bedding of the stock to the receiver. Either way, if you have any mini 14 new or old and bullets tumble out of it, or shoots 12inch groups... then the damn thing is broken! Think about it, do you know how much a hot barrel would have to deviate from it's origin to produce 12inch groups? My god, that thing would have to bend in half to shoot 12 inches on a target 100 yards away. Then people call the Mini 14 junk, not realizing they are shooting a broken rifle that Ruger could have fixed for free, and perpetuate the lies online. I've really been trying to help people out on this subject to have their rifles looked at by a pro before calling a proven system junk.
If that Mini-14 was made in 82, it has a 1:10 twist.
Shoot a 5 shot group of 55gr bullets out to 100yrds, then do the same with a heavier bullet, like 62gr and let's see the results. Maybe even do cold barrel versus warm barrel to see what results you get.
My lawyer advises me to never discuss 62 grain bullets. They are considered excessive force for chipmunks.
It's possible that your commenters were concerned about corn holing. It comes from hanging out at G@y bars. Or summer parties. It's a paradox, but I hear that both happen in equal proportions in Florida. It's possible that both happen at the same time. 😁
I have a 184 series w/ 1in10 twist no problem shooting 60 or 62gr out to 100yrds.
Only issues I know of with green tips have to do with 1/12 twiste
I have one with serial number under 500, and a new 580 series that is my truck gun. Here in ranch country a truck gun has a lot of different uses and the Mini works perfect. It's a filthy environment and the Mini just keeps on shucking rounds. I hit prairie dogs with my aftermarket Tech Sight out to 150 yards and coyotes stand no chance. It's not an MOA rifle, it was never supposed to be. The old one is a pie plate accuracy rifle.
Honestly it is more accurate than what most people can manage to group anyway
@@theblindsniper9130 Right. I'm a big fan of open sights and get along well with them. It's more than accurate enough for a varmint gun. On the ranch, and on the Indian Reservation, we shoot right out the window and it's just easy to handle inside the truck.
Nice ride paw paw
What was very noticeable from the footage was the mini chucked the brass from the 55 grain rounds a lot further than the 62 grains.
Haha it sure did
You should try 75 grain next.
And a new %!@^^ plate! I know the price of foam has risen but???????? Cardboard boxes are still the same price as last year, free.A trip to the back of your local grocery store and you will never run out of fresh targets with a box cutter and a black Sharpie. Cheaper than tape even?
The only thing that jumps out to me is the 62g. Looks like M855 ammo. I may be wrong be it is 5.56. Your 180 is probably chambered in .223. I would be careful firing a lot of that M855 through the 180 series. Now i have a 584 series and it is chambered in 5.56 I chrono that M855 and it was right at 3100fps. And very accurate in my 1:9 twist barrel. I reload as well. And have put together some 68g. Did ok, but not like the 62g. But still far better than the 55g. As long as i get the velocities at 3,000fps.
the only mini 14 that are chambered for .223 exclusively are the target specific models...any and all other are chambered for 5.56 and .223
You are absolutely correct. @@joemarchinski914
Lol the mini was built for military use ...only thing is the ar 12 - 15 were so fast and cheap to produce that it got sidelined and got sold as a civilian rifle ....hints why all .223 minis except the sporter can handle 5.56 nato says right in the owners manual. They are pretty accurate rifles it is the user that is the issue
Yeah, but a couple Military weapons channels despise the rifle and call it names every chance they get. They can't get over their bias and hate for the platform.
Had to check last night to be sure. 5.56 military. I'm good.
You need a new paper plate or two.
I shot 69 grn tracers out of an old one. The bullets destabilized at 75-80 yards. Started making random right turns
I once had a hunting rifle, that it didn't matter what grain projectile i put through it, the rifle key holed them all, no matter what i tried. re-barreling was the only fix.
Mini had a 1/10 twist. It shoots 62gr fine. 68/77 🤷probably not, inside your home no problemo. Goblins beware 😁
I should test that!
Hey, what are your thoughts on the 1916 Spanish mauser?
Cutting / State of the Art...for 1916 !
Same as the Model A and Model T's... ☆
62 grain and no other tumble when they leave the barrel.
Did you watch this??
Your only a guy on you tube.
I can live with that
Keep your powder dry 😜.
If you are going to do a Accuracy video DONT do the “Bubba” style paper plate target with 50 feet of masking tape all over the plate. Low class buddy!
Oh so now it's an issue with choice of targets? The test proved the point that the rifle is plenty accurate for what the purpose is off rifles and can hit what they are aimed at.
Ain't nothing wrong with a "Bubba Plate"!
