    In this video, I am joined by my good friend and co-worker, Wilson To. We have both been Medical Scribes for a while now so we thought it would be a good idea to make this video about our experiences as a medical scribe, the training process, the benefits that being a medical scribe can have when applying for medical school or PA school! This is a great job to have if you are looking for clinical experience during your undergrad careers.
    If you have any questions about scribing that was not addressed in the video, please leave a comment or message me here or on Instagram (@shaunandersen)!

    I am currently hired as a scribe in an Ortho clinic, and i wish i had the training you had. I was literally thrown and learned on the spot like you had mentioned haha. It was hectic at first seeing that i was paired with a doctor that triple books his appointment schedule but, few months in now, im still learning but it is going alot better than it was.

    • @ShaunAndersen
      @ShaunAndersen  Před 4 lety +1

      That's exactly what it is like scribing at most places! The first few months are SUCH a grind! But I love that you are working in Ortho because that is so different from most scribes who are in the ER! How is it? Do you want to be a surgeon?

    • @kev10roma
      @kev10roma Před 4 lety +1

      Shaun Andersen, ADMITTED Medical Student! Yes i want to be sport medicine physician, and my doc does exactly that! Its very hectic but i know being in the ER would be crazier. I was blessed to have this opportunity. I initially wanted go to the ER seeing that i have my EMT cert, but in Southern California scribe america is very hard to get into. I guess i lucked out and was fortunate enough to join a private setting. Regardless any clinical experience is going to go a long way like you mentioned in this vid!

    I just had an interview for a Medical Scribe position. I just got my Bachelor's in Health Care Administration/Management. So I'm really looking to gain more experience at this time. The interviewer liked that I was already a HHA since 2008. I've worked in the medical field for a very long time and also went to school to be a P.C.T. I also told interviewer that I know medical terms. He also asked me about SOAP notes in which I already knew because of school and experience in working as a HHA. I will be making 15.00 an hour to start. They do offer 401k. I also asked about tuition reimbursement and insurance and he said they do get both. So wish me luck. It's at a doctor's office. Community based seniors aged 65 and over. Great video by the way. Thank you for all the useful information. You will be a great doctor in the future. Good luck in med school.

    • @ShaunAndersen
      @ShaunAndersen  Před 4 lety +16

      Absolutely! Working in the ER as a scribe was my first step into the medical field and it was extremely overwhelming! There were so many medical terms, procedures, and processes that I didn't know anything about. Furthermore, I remember have a difficult time keeping pace. I even once stayed over 2 hours after a physician left to finish his notes.
      But after some perseverance, I was so happy I stuck with it. The ability to understand lingo, predict a physician's treatment plan, and learn how to keep track of multiple patient's and pace is such a valuable tool to have prior to medical school! I now scribe in Oncology instead of the ER and the experience from the ER helped me so much!
      Also, in general, most scribes agree that the first 1-5 months of scribing is the hardest :p so stick to it!

      @@CA-wi1fo I just got hired as a scribe and having experience in those classes is what really helped me secure the job (besides studying medical terminology before applying). I also was a pharmacy technician for 2 years and honestly I wouldn't recommend it. It is widely accepted (depending on where you live) that pharmacy technicians do not have any applicable clinical experience or patient care experiences for medical school. I did learn a lot about medications, working with the public (and angry patients), and how to work with others in a fast paced environment. The biggest takeaway from being a pharm tech is really learning about common meds like I said and HIPAA. For beginning steps in your undergrad journey though, any experience is really helpful to be a well rounded med school applicant. I was able to spin my pharmacy experience to get a scribe job. Absolutely! You will work with a lot of Nurses and Nurse Practitioners! I even knew some scribes who were in Nursing School while working 1-2 shifts per week!

    • @ShaunAndersen
      @ShaunAndersen  Před 4 lety +1

      Honestly most interviewees get hired since the turnover rate is kinda high I think! Just be yourself and tell them you have taken medically-related classes!
