This Rolex airking 4499 from around the World War 2 era needs a little tender loving care. It’s one of the earliest airking models to be made by Rolex. The war, aircraft, pilots and timekeeping as their source of inspiration for the airking models.

I recently started working for someone who has been a watchmaker for 60 years. Yes, he's 80, but he still has the passion and I feel so lucky that he took me under his wing to teach me the craft. Watching videos like these only gets me more and more excited for the future and everything I will learn. This is one of the most beautiful crafts I think that has ever existed.

@Randy Marsh, I've been a professional watchmaker for 19 years and been interested in it for probably, 30 years. My Great uncle was a watchmaker and my mentor and I was lucky enough to inherit his tools when he finally retired but if I've got any advice, it would be collect as many service parts and broken movements as you can afford, this was the advice that my Great Uncle gave me and it's held me in good stead! Crystals, main springs, hair springs, face and hands are getting harder and harder to find and keeping family heirlooms ticking is a rewarding experience. We can buy all of the tools that we need, what we cannot buy are the parts to restore the movements!

@@NekkidWatchmaker Can you advise me the best way to clean a stainless steel bracelet watch strap of all the detritus that ends up in between the links. Similar question for a stainless steel woven strap.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
