    You're awesome! I feel like other videos don't explain the reason why you would recode and you made it very clear. Thank you!!!

    THANK YOU SIR FOR THIS VIDEO. CLEAR AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND.
    But if I want to recode the same age variable that you have taken in your video to groups like 10-20, 21-30, 31-40 so on...how can I do this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Dr, thank you for the insight provided in this tutorial.
    Please, what happens to the value column of the recoded variable from the variable view on SPSS?
    Because I noticed it did not automatically update the new specified values in the value column. Rather, it was left blank.
    Do I have to manually impute the new values to reflect the recoded or has SPSS automatically recognised the new values and uses them while conducting analysis?

  • @bernstmj
    @bernstmj  Před 12 lety

    @rtmt1212, I believe leaving it blank will cause SPSS to treat it as missing data, which is what you want.

    Let's say you currently have 4 variables in SPSS, but they are basically just sub-variables in your study. You want to put those sub-variables into a new main variable without changing the point system (1-5). What you want is a new main variable that can be tested with other main variables. How do I proceed to do that?

    Hello there , how are you doing? I have one question , may i get your help please ? This is the Question....Transform item 1 to 11 to one variable by taking the mean of the items and name it (TSEL) which stands for total student evaluation of lecturer and transform item 12 to 21 to one variable and name it (TSOC) which stands for total student outcome. You can do Command - Recode into Different Variables again. This time, tell it to convert each of the numbers above into a new number (like 1). So you would have all 0's be 1 and all 1's be 1 and all 2's be 1. Then you would have a new column with each score having the same number. Is that what you mean?

    I am working on a SPSS project Berstein!
    Using the recode into different variable command, recode Trust into a new variable with
    the name Trust_recode that has only three categories that you will label high trust,
    medium trust and low trust. Recode the categories so that each category includes roughly a third (33%) of all valid
    responses.
    < How do record the categories so that each category includes roughly a third of all valid responses...
