I never ever encountered any hostility from any Filipino being an American but was amazed to see the hostility and protesting on the news from young college age Filipinos protesting the recent Western Military and missile battery build up. As for Spanish Sir Names. Residents of Guam have them also being a colony of Spain. With military history. You have the Spanish American War along with WW2. Filipino hero's General Luna, Aguinaldo and Mabini were pretty amazing individuals for their time General Arthur MacArthur wrote in his personal journals stating that General Luna was his greatest adversary . The spirit of the revolution with the Filipinos left such a great affinity with young army engineer Douglas MacArthur. We can see his motivation when stating that " I will be back". MacArthur later in life talked about his great love and respect for the Filipino people.

yeah right,,,why dont they protest the Chinese bullying their fishermen, or stealing island not even near China. Sound like u love communists, why the filipinos crying about the Chinese? yet, if anybody wants to help them they complain about that,,,,That is why the PI will never have a good economy and always stay poor, they are not business friendly to outside companies. The students should be protesting their governments big corruption, but if they do they will disappear,,,,You really have no clue,,,,You must be one of those sex expats,,,just wanting students to sex,,,,,almost all foreigners in the PI are pervs and sex addict,,,,Most of my friends are filipino american and live in Philippines,,,,,i know your game,,,,saying nice things to u can get a teenager,,,,,i see it all the time

Thanks for your video. There are always worse places in every corner of the world. Knowing there are, helps manage my expectations. Choosing to focus on the positives and nicer things doesn't always equal being naive. Wisdom and past experiences show me that if I surround myself with negative people, places and intentions, I would just live in fear and do nothing. The Lord tells me not to fear so I will not. I appreciate anyone that opens a window (camera) into "their" view and testimony. Looking forward to our own experiences soon!

To be honest Scott I think "some" of the vloggers are flat out liars trying to grow their audience and subs. I used to watch one guy who had a few channels that would do monthly cost videos, and they were always around $800.00 US or less, and to listen to him there was no better place than the Philippines. Eventually all of that changed and he said his cost of living over the time he'd been in the Philippines was over $1,500.00 a month (and he owned his house) beggars at the gate all the time, neighbors drunk and fighting all the time, dogs barking, ... and he couldn't wait to get back to the good old USA where life is so much better, ... and cheaper.
I think there are some vloggers that just say what people want to hear. There''s nothing wrong with being negative and nothing wrong with being positive, in my opinion as long as it doesn't set people up with false expectations. The stuff you put out is accurate information and the big majority of us viewers appreciate that.

Philippines reminds me of different parts of USA. In the south, people are very friendly. In the North not so much. Scott, a lot of Vloggers have an agenda with saying or featuring certain areas of the Philippines that are either very beautiful or not. As you said they either promote their Channel agenda or otherwise exploit for gain in other areas. It's one of the reasons viewers should never accept on face value what is presented as being something of value and actionable until and unless one can come a point of trust . It has to be enough to where you are comfortable putting your life decisions in what they say without verifying some kind of authenticity. Entertainment is one thing, belief in others without some deep verification of what is being said to is too risky.

Actually, everyone speaks English because English is taught from kindergarten to college. Those who can't speak English most likely didn't go to school but they are just few of them. They don't speak FLUENT English but they can speak in a very basic manner. Many foreign vloggers can attest to that because they don't need to learn the local language just to communicate. I'm sure Scott can go anywhere in the Philippines and communicate with anybody even without learning the dialect or use Google translate. 😊

One of the things that I have noticed most is the videos about how cheaply you can live there. I've found it to be much more expensive than most vloggers talk about. I was in Cebu, and would say plan on $3,000 - $4,000 a month to live in any sort of comfort. Speaking of Cebu, if you like the old churches, I would suggest you visit Magellan's cross in the old town Colon section of Cebu city. It has the actual cross that Magellan planted on the island 500 year ago, and a very large beautiful church right next to it. As far as food, I'm surprised you didn't mention lechon. Whether the whole pig, or lechon kawalii it is one of my favorite foods, and again it is very popular in the Cebu area. In Manila, my fiancé and I loved eating at the Mary Grace bakery, in fact she is looking forward to going back to Manila for her K1 visa interview so she can have the chocolate truffle cake again. If you're in a poor locality, the food tends to be low quality but if you are in a richer area, you can eat what you want and there are plenty of buffet restaurants which serve every kind of food that exist.
