Ainadamar 2022 | Opera Meets Flamenco

Reimagining the life and works of poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, Director/Choreographer Deborah Colker and Flamenco Choreographer Antonio Najarro delve into the ensemble piece they have created in Osvaldo Golijov's Ainadamar.
Ainadamar looks at Lorca's life through the memories of muse and friend Margarita Xirgu. As Margarita tells their story to her student Nuria, Ainadamar looks ahead to Lorca’s legacy as an artistic martyr and reflects on his life and works an astonishing explosion of love, loss, poetry, music, dance, war and the power of memory. Golijov's electrifying score weaves together influences from around the world in a mesmerising mixture of opera and the traditional song and dance of Andalusia.
