  • The Marine Corps will transition to a new pistol qualification course during fiscal year 2015. Marines with 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion began their transition during Exercise Sandfisher by conducting the new course of fire with their M45A1 close-quarters-combat pistols. Marine Corporal Brandon Suhr shows us the input given from the unit.

MEU(SOC) Marines still use the 1911 .45. The only US military combat units that use the 1911 and it works very well for them. The Marine Corps also use the old M-9 Beretta, which in my opinion is still an excellent pistol, and Glock 19s, SIg M-11s, and M-17s.

Glock is the Toyota or Honda, 1911 is the Ferrari or Porsche.

A 1911 that WORKS in combat is the price of a Porsche or Ferrari, but if it's any cheaper, it will not work in combat. That's what guns like glock costs a fraction and still works

The American made 1911 is like the American made Corvette

@@Excalibur01 You don't have to spend a fortune on a reliable, combat oriented 1911.
Like, my grandpa's Colt Government 1911A1 is your typical GI format 1911. It's no high end 1911 like a Wilson Combat or Springfield TRP, but I take good care of her and she's hardly ever malfunctioned on me.
      Maintenance is key.

Glock or similar would be a better more modern pistol. Certain Marines are issued the Glock 19 and it has more rounds, softer shooting and more reliable than the old school 1911

Do some get to use the m9? I have a Glock 19, and I love it but the only problem I have with it is that the mag release is difficult for left handed shooters.
