    Hello my fellow marks!
I was born with a birthmark called a port wine stain ( PWS ) covering most of my face and also on parts of the lower half of my body. In this tutorial, I show you how I put on full coverage makeup, as well as the reasons why I choose to cover it up or not on a day to day basis.

Thank you first of all for being so open and educational. I am a 62 yo great-grandma, with a pws that covers most of one side of my face, even over one eye. I grew up during a time when people who did not understand things were just plan hateful. I was not allowed to wear makeup growing up. And forget about laser treatments. Like most stains, if left untreated, it started to raise and bleed in places. I was able to meet a kind dermatologist later in life who helped me with shock treatments, which laid the areas flat and stopped the bleeding. It was very painful, and took many treatments, but I was thankful. Later in life I developed seizures. The neurologist says he does suspect Sturgeon Webber Syndrome, however, my research says differently. Most SWS patients start seizures in infancy, but a few start unexplained seizures later in life. I have had Epilepsy for over ten years with no explanation from the doctors. All they ask continually, “Have you ever been hit in the head? One funny response from an ignorant doctor. I took a bad fall on my porch and went to the emergency room. When the young doctor came in he asked happened? I said I had a bad fall. He said, “From the looks of your face, it must have been.” Such is life with ignorant people. Thank you again for your information. I have always used Covergirl foundation, due to it’s thickness and staying power. And my favorite thing- the price. I once worked at a TV station and got my hands on some costume makeup. It was atrocious, but for young me, coverage was all I wanted. Bless you. (Sorry I’m so long.)

Thank you soooo much for sharing !!!
I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and had a lot of “what’s wrong with your face” names like “purple monster “ picked on teased I avoided posible when possible kept my head down
It is funny cause I was very out spoken and snapped back quickly when picked on
I feel for you. Our marks are not who we are but the have shaped how we exist in the world.
I am very curious about the seizures. Since the vascular system fluctuates through out the day based on environment, diet, hydration, sleep , altitude etc it is possible when you are looked at for causes the vascular system causing pressure is not visible.
Port wine stains are intertwined with our internal tissues and organs so they can swell internally at times.
      I would suggest 3 things
      -Anti-angiogenic diet
-Self administered Lymphatic drainage and massage at least 2 times a week on your birthmark ( google Gua sha and face yoga )
-Cold therapy ( constricts blood vessels)
And last (turmeric, masks tea anything )
Our birthmark grows due to pooling
The blood pools and after years of this the tissue stretches , toughens and also can develop blebs
The more often you can encourage good drainage of this blood the less steer it will put on your tissues and internal functions.
I have birthmarks on my skull in my mouth, nose, ears in my eyes, and internal tissues
The only thing after this advice is hope that CRISPER can one day turn off our defective gene
All my love support and warm hugs to you
Your birthmark made you a silent sufferer, a survivor, and a warrior, you are a unique being and the world is better for that .

Thank you so much for your support. My suffering did make me stronger. I would try things others would not. I was a federal police officer before they were called Homeland Security and then I switched to carpentry before woman were big in the trades. I was forced to take disability and retire due to seizures. I have had a blessed life. Thank you for your concern.

Thank you so much for this! I also have a port wine underneath my lower lip and have struggled with coverage all of my life. Your look is simple, natural and beautiful and I appreciate you highlighting the not overdone look. I was really hoping you weren’t going to overkill your look, and you didn’t - “I don’t like wearing other people’s eyebrows”, I wish more women thought this way. It’s setting an unrealistic standard for others that just want a simple natural look. Thank you for being you!

You can take olive oil and take the makeup off with it and then wash your face. i have a large birthmark on the left side of my face and olive oil or any oil works to melt the makeup. I too have a sturge-weber birthmark and covering it has been hard. I always though that the base would come off with the other makeup you use, but you do a great job of covering. I have learned a lot from you. I would prefer a professional to to my makeup but they don't want to because they know its not easy to do. I consider you a kinder spirit for I know how hard it is to live with the mark and I'm alot older then you. You are a beautiful person and I'm grateful for seeing this video!!

Awesome video ! I actually cried during your intro. I lost the battle to glaucoma and in my sophomore year of highschool I had the eye removed a prosthetic placed. Stated wearing makeup to cover up my birthmark soon after the prosthetic. Used Dermablend this whole time. I am 32 years old and this is my first time I am even looking at anyone else with a birthmark through CZcams or Pinterest. I’ve kind of ignored the fact that dermablend is horrible in me. Thank you ! I wrote everything down.

HI Stephanie! I also have a PWS. I wanted to let you know about the makeup I use because you mentioned that yours is a little difficult to apply because it dries so fast. I have been using Cover Girl's Outlast All Day - ultimate finish foundation for years and it fully covers without any time constraint for application. Wanted to let you know in case that is helpful to you. :)
Also, thank you so much for sharing about your birthmark. I have felt so alone for years and I am now discovering that I am not as alone as I thought thanks to social media and people like you! This was really fun to watch for a lot of reasons. I relate to so much of what you shared. We all have our challenges. Mine often feel insurmountable. I have incredibly fair Irish skin and a very dark purple birthmark so that intense contrast makes it impossible to cover. I also have a ton of freckles on the non-birthmark side, which makes it so difficult to make everything look even and symmetrical. The birthmark covers half of my lips, so those are very disfigured. Etc etc etc. Anyway, I have had very little success with laser treatment, but I’m thinking about giving it another go as an adult. I’m very much looking forward to trying some of these products and techniques and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to walk through this! ♥️ I hope to someday come to love (or at least accept and feel comfortable with) my birthmark as well as you have.

HI there! My stop products are Revlon color stay for oily skin, Mac studio fix powder, guerlain bronzer, orgasm NArs blush Anastasia eye shadows. A quick tip , we are very prone to inflammation and blood pooling in our birthmarks. I suggest pressing, massaging and trying get the blood to drain from the birthmark/ lesson at least 1 a day ( I do it at night ) the s will help with the bulging we get in the effected areas. Also never sleep on that side of your face. Thats how it pools and stretches our skin and vessels inn the area is the pooling of the blood in the vessels. Know salt and low sugar helps as well as staying hydrated

Thank you so much for this video! I have a port wine stain above my lip that's also on my gums and my inner lip. Thanks to this one side of my lip is slightly bigger and lopsided. When I was a kid I always got teased for having "a rash" or "a red mustache" or "mouth herpes" and as an adult I'm so self conscious about my birthmark that I'm pretty sure only 3 or 4 people outside of my family have ever seen me without makeup. I just couldn't deal with the "ew what is that???" I've gotten 3 laser treatments when I was a child which changed it from a purplish red to light pink and I'm going to try to get more treatments once I have the money to. I always cover it with dermablend both the green color correcting powder and the concealer but I feel like it looks cakey. I'll definitely try the products you used. Please make more makeup videos in the future! Subscribed and hopeful.

I ended up getting the Lancome pressed powder in a darker shade than my usual choice. I used the Estee Lauder Double Wear Max Cover in a lighter shade for my base and the pressed powder over top. I didn't have to cake on my liquid foundation the way i normally would, but the results were still amazing!!!! Thank you so much for your video. It's been so tough trying to cover my birthmark. Hello, I have a birthmark on the half right side of my face Into my neck area and slightly to my eye. I’m always looking for new make up tips to cover my birthmark. I’ve used dermablend for years (when I was in my teenager years), but it was causing me to powder a lot throughout the day because of the excess oils my face produced. After that I starterd using Joe blasco, which i liked better, and needed less of it. Now for the last 5 years i’m using RCMA make up, its been great for me, but still always looking for something better. Kinda like that when there’s a new mascara out, you always want to try it out ;-). I live in the Netherlands and they don’t sell revlon in the stores, but you’re video made me curious enough to try your routine! Your explanaition is so clear and you’re the first one that gets my point with adding colour and depth to the face after the base. For me it was like aaaaah i’m not crazy, and don’t wear to much “layers” after the base, but i need them to make my face “natural” again! I would love more videos! But also can you give me a list of the products you used?
Thanks so much and have a great day!

I have a pws on my cheek and have covered it with many different products for years- over 50 now. I have used many many many products Your explanations are so clear and you have explained things so well.
I have had laser treatments and my pws has gone from pebbly purple to a smoother purple mauve. I am very fair and have trouble with the oxidation and my cheek ends up very orange some days. I use thick coverup and setting powder that is white or yellowish and I think the coverup is too heavy and is showing through. I am going to try your base/then pigmented powder technique and see how it works.

      @portwinestain  Před 4 lety +1

Hello Jane! I'd love to hear how changing up the routine works out. A few tricks if its oxidation you deal with. Go for a shade or two lighter for your base and a good bronzer to even out the skin tone. Because you have more mature skin I would try out a primer. Suggestions are Smashbox or Mac primers. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I was born with a port wine birthmark on the left side of my face from under the eye, cheek and down to the tip of my lip. I was always questioned what was wrong with my face when I was little. Parents would ask me if it was contagious. In high school, I used Lydia O’Leary make up and then found Dermablend. Then my peers said I wore too much makeup. I was so self conscious all of the time. I ended up getting laser treatments when I was 19-24. Most of my birthmark is gone, except for residual red spots that could not be removed. I’m still self conscious about these spots as they are only on the left side and are about the size of a pencil eraser. So I cover the red dots with Bare Minerals. It doesn’t cover them completely, but it lightens them. I’m now almost 56, and I’m still on the hunt for something better because my skin is aging and I need a cream vs. the Bare Mineral powders. I’m hoping a green cc foundation and/or green primer will help. I’m waiting for it to arrive from Amazon. I’ve always felt alone because of my birthmark. I’m so glad I found your video. You are beautiful before and after your makeup. What an incredible make up tutorial for us who have these birthmarks. Thank you for sharing! I may try the make up that you posted in comments. Stay well and beautiful! ❤❤

Thanks for being so open. Why the hell would someone come up and ask about your face? People are just weird and rude. I have vitiligo and it’s only kids that will ask. I haven’t had an adult mention it other than someone who either also has it or has a family member with it. A kid I can understand, but an adult who would be so dumb as to ask about your face whether it is a burn or birthmark or anything is just bizarre to me! It’s
Not really their business. You’re allowed to leave the house not wearing makeup without having to answer questions from random strangers. Who do these people think they are? Who raised them? I’m sorry you have to deal with that crap. People have no class. Anyway, I think the KVD looks nice. It’s hard to see in that lighting, but it looks warm like your chest. The problem is when you add powder to foundation in general, everything gets darker. But the second powder did give a softer yellow tone on you…overall, great combo. I like it. It’s hard for me to find foundation because I have to have two, one for my regular face and then I do a darker one for my lighter spots. I might try this foundation… thanks!

Great tutorial. But, what can a guy do? All these videos are for women who are "allowed" to have makeup on. I've got a large fairly dark PWS on half of my face; lived with it all my life. I've gone "bare" and I've done coverup. I do a lot of public speaking and I've found that it's just easier for folks if it is covered up; honestly, it's also easier for me for the reasons you mentioned at the beginning of the video. (I don't blame people; it's just natural for us to stare and gawk at something unusual on someone else. After all I've been through over the years, I still find myself wanting to stare at someone else with some other condition. Of course I kick myself and don't stare but, it's just how people are hardwired. I get that.) Okay, given that fact, and the fact that it's easier for both myself and other people I'm speaking to if it is covered up-- at least to a certain degree-- here's my problem: I'm a man; I deal with fairly rough around the edges men and, we don't wear makeup. Is it possible, to cover up a fairly dark birthmark and it not be obvious that you are wearing makeup? As I said, all these videos are great; they have some great tips but, well, when people see me in well lighted situations, I'm still a dude walking around with makeup on his face for some reason and, I sometimes wonder if the "cure" is worse than the "malady". (It's not. Look, I know it's not pc to say it but, it just looks nasty--mine of course-- and it's a pain in the hindquarters to deal with it.) I've looked around and I haven't been able to find anything that's looking at it from a "we don't wear makeup" man's perspective. Is there a regimen that a guy could follow to "look natural"? Thank you again for the in-depth tutorial.

Yes, you have full reason to believe it can. There are some factors that keep a birthmark from clearing up completely with laser treatments and it has to do with age, type of skin, and the blood supply. But all birthmarks will lighten. you will need more than one treatment, and it needs to be with a Pulse Dye Laser.

Hello Mike! I would recommend a few things to get her in the habit of every day. 1.) Massage the areas with birthmark it will help the blood not to pool in that area and help with the tissue becoming inflamed. 2. Trying not to sleep on the side of of her face that has the birthmark, this will also help with blood pooling and inflammation. A good night time routine with that goes massage, face wash, toner and moisturizer. For make up the standby Revlon color stay is my favorite still. I would recommend getting a laser treatments as well.
