You're so on point Daniel with the both stories, My Cousin Chukwuma may his soul rest in peace. terrorized people in ABA, for a good 4 years, when bakasi boys came around, bakasi boys came for my cousin more than 6 times in their family house in Aba, my cousin went to the village to hide and continued his criminal act, when bakasi was brought to onisha, my cousin was finally caught and killed by bakasi boys in my village, my cousin believed so much in his juju, but the Juju failed him.
Daniel the right pronunciation is Nwangworo.
The Story about the bakasi boys went to another different dimension, if you had in any way killed either by crime or witchcraft their juju will expose you. The crime rate in Aba, Onisha and Nnewi was high, bakasi boys presence helped.
For Eddie's story, he committed a lot of atrocities, politicians and many rich men in the east go to collect power from them, at his point of death, he confessed and gave a standing order to those he has given a white staff should make sure they throw it into the River Ninja. Failure to do so, whatever they see they should take.
Yes there was social media or phones at the time, but a lot happened and the coming of bakasi boys helped a lot in calming the crime down.

I remember my late dad's friend was killed by Bakassi boys in Anambra. He had been an armed robber before he started a petrol station. But the Bakassi boys still killed him. That is why some us believe the myth of the knife turning red to indicate a man is guilty of blood shed is true. Most of the people killed were once criminals or were still engaging in crimes. I once lived in Awkuzu and Npor, Anambra in early 2000's.

Taking advantage of the rife disorder and insecurity of the late 90s in the eastern region, Bakassi boys were a group of vigilante thugs who partook in extra judicial method of baiting targets, intimidating and threatening, open confrontation to induce confessions, riding in convoy of buses supplied by the local government, they took the law into their hands to harass anyone they target based on public rumours and social profiling. Eddy Nawgus (Deity-that-attends-church-service) unfortunate saga is of a famous spiritual leader while having maintained a clean crime record but had earned him unforgiven enmity with serious local witch doctors who (plotted set-up) see him as a strong contender/nemesis soon caught their interest. From his initial Bakassi-hijacking, political outcry and release by the police (his failure to abscond) and failure of the local government to caution the Bakassi boys on the subject (ego-tripped, saw his continued existence as a challenge) eventually led to the subjects summarily extra judicial body dismembering. This event singlehandedly was a stimuli that spanned to the ban of the same vigilante activities of the group in the region, if not tarnish the image of the local governor who was pressured to employ their services in the state. The group would eventually disband due to lack of funding and become a menace to the society themselves thereby culminating to today's social insecurities fueled by the acts of the Niger Delta militant cultists groups rising in the south east.

This brought back memories... I was in Onitsha then, the way we see bakasi then, we even over tell the story to the point that if I am going to school and see their bus pass, I would be scared, thinking that they will stop and kill me because I used to steal meat from pot and tell lies... We were told that Bakasi boys kills anybody doing something bad. But normal it was only armed robbers and kidnappers they do kill, and there were lots of them in Onitsha then... We even had a calender of them playing with people's head

Many are born with the gift of a seer or prophet. The problem is when that gift is not brought under the subjection of God, but used instead by the evil one. Remembering the story of Balak. He was a prophet, but yet his ways were evil. Many deceivers in our world.
