lead singer Max Cavalara said, "It's about believe in yourself, about be proud of your heritage, proud of where you come from. Really powerful but simple lyrics. So it's really about just be down with your own roots and believe in your roots."
I love that message!! â€ïž
We should all be proud of our roots.
@@BradAndLex check out the video in your own time. it has the indigenous people playing their drums with the band rocking out....
@@MW-cx3sb Why, though? I didn't earn my roots. I didn't do anything for them. Why would I be proud of something totally out of my control?
Also a cool version they once performed on Dutch tv/radio: czcams.com/video/ALvOv8ajiRY/video.html
Sepultura is a Brazilian metal band. Roots is talking about Brazilian indigenous pplÂŽs fate vis-a-vis colonization.
Most of what Sepultura writes about is their conflicts in Brazil, like Megadeth, also about government suppression, control and corruption. Must do more Sepultura đ€đđ€
They have conflict with Megadeth ?
@@Jeff-Vader-1 no they too write stuff about corruption and such, like Megadeth does
Thats what I said
I love watching Lex's eyes light up when the music gets crunk.
I will never forget this song, My buddy had this blaring out of his car when I got sucker punched by my Highschool bully and it pumped me up so much I kicked the shit out of this kid so bad and never had a problem with him ever again in classes.
Nice!
Good. I like when people stand up for themselves
you get up and said:''WATCH ME FREAAKKKKKK!!!!!''
Had something similar but with Panteraâs 5 Minutes Alone
I really like how Lex "feels" the music and Brad is the "writing analytical type" in regards to music. These opposite traits make a good couple. Continue to learn from each other.
Thank you!! đ
That's funny watching them I just said pretty much the same thing how Brad Intuit and I'm waiting for Lex to just start bouncing off Brad and moshing sometimes
Sepultura is one of the few things that keeps my pride alive to say I'm from Brazil!
Love the way Lex puts her smile on immediatly when she hears the guitar riffs đ€đŒ
"Gojira was influenced by Sepultura" -- basically every metal band was. These guys are like... some of the founding fathers of metal. One of the earlier bands to have all "growling" vocals that are a staple in modern metal.
And for someone who's new into metal, it's a great point what she had actually
look I love Sepultura as much as the next guy but... one of the founding fathers of metal? One of the earliest to have all growling vocals? Bro you're tripping lol
@@Slamthulhu hardly. Sepultura was the music death metal artists listened to in the late 80s, one of the central groups that brought common metal tropes to musicians in the states.
One of my favorite songs from Sepultura is Refuse/Resist Chaos AD.
Their best song. It's so relevent even today.
Max is a beast. Time to dive into some SOULFLY
Lex you have good ear for music Sepultura is one of the biggest Gojira inspirations:) check Ratamahata from the same album, do music video, no lyrics needed:)
This entire album is phenomenal. They put alot of their Brazilian tribal influence in it and the while album is a total banger. The singer/guitar also started another band called Soulfly that was pretty good, but him and his brother Egor(drummer) also started Cavalera Conspiracy and all their stuff is fire
You should go back to their earlier stuff. Check out Dead Embryonic Cells, or Arise. Or even Orgasmatron! They have an extensive catalog of music.
Also check out their other band Soulfly.
Jump Da Fuk up, is my favorite.
Inner self is far best
Orgasmatron is a killer cover song if you havenât heard Motörheadâs version (who made the song) I would recommend it but sepulturas version is definitely heavier but both versions are good
Slaves of Pain is their best song
You should do Sepulturaâs Dead Embryonic Cells, Arise, Orgasmatron, Inner Self, Stronger than Hate, Slaves of Pain, Troops of Doom and Meaningless Movements.
Have to do the original Motorhead Orgasmatron before doing Sep's cover, though.
All this...
Gonna add Desperate Cry
CIU (Criminals in uniform)!
All this đ€đ€đ€đ€
Question: Why do Brazilians speak Portuguese?
Answer: Roots bloody roots
I bet you speak English because of the same roots.
@@andrepereira744 I'm English but Sanxons and Roman's definitely took over England and changed our culture. Not many Druids left these days
@@johnladen9988 I'm Portuguese and can't speak a lick grandparents spoke Portuguese my parents were bilingual me Uno lingual...lol
If you're speaking English, Spanish, or Portuguese, you probably have the same bloody roots. Same Catholic Church, Still in control today.
@@beastmerc84 lol yep ! although I don't claim to be catholic Something about the Vatican that's not right đ
Gojira are absolutely influenced by Sepultura. They did a live cover of "Territory" a few years back.
Joe Duplantier of Gojira is actually in a band with members of Sepultura. A super band of sorts "Cavalera Conspiracy"
Sepultura drummers are awesome! First Igor Cavalera and now Eloy Casagrande. Favorite Sepultura Song: Amen
All them drums give it a tribal feel!
I get that âGo back to Spain, Conquistador, before I put an arrow through your neckâ vibeâŠ.
Man, Brasil was colonized by Portugal. Not Spain
HmmâŠthatâs why they speak Portuguese! Thanks for the correction.
Seems I should have consulted a history book before commenting.
Haha It's ok man
Max split off to form another band named Soulfly. Youâd dig their song, âPrimativeâ - which is about a similar thing. Korn was influenced by Sepultura as well. I saw Soulfly open for PANTERA in 2000. That was the most intense concert Iâve ever been to; it was legitimately dangerous.
For me, this album changed the entire trajectory of Metal when it came out. That Tribal Metal vibe opened my eyes like nothing in music ever has. Those times back in the day still gives me chills.
Roots Bloody Roots is a great song no question and it perfectly represents the band itself in what theyâre aiming for concerning the message etc. Musically I would highly recommend listening to other songs as for example Dead Embryonic Cells, Desperate Cry or Propaganda. I think you will enjoy these songs a lot more!!
love lex's wry little smile as soon as it started
I love Igor's drumming too :)
I saw them live in Hawaii back in 1995 when they were at the top of their game, it was one of the best concerts I have seen.
One of the best and most chaotic concerts I have ever been to.
Saw them in Liverpool in 1994 - were epic!
Del Mar Fairgrounds. 1994 with Helmut and Ministry. What a show.
@@BuckeyeaTransplant That had to be dope!
â takes a lot of blood to establish a Country... â ... dude, thatâs a sublime assessment.
I read in an old interview with Max , that they recorded the song in old tunnels where slaves were held . That the song was confronting Brazil's bloody past .
Now that u are going down this amazing path I would like to recommend u guys react to a band called DEATH who were the pioneers of DEATH METAL, this genre has some of the most talented musicians of the world in their bands... I think you will love that band for the lyrics (Brad) and for the music(Lex)... try out "scavenger of human sorrow" or "lack of comprehension" or "the flesh and the power it holds" or "spirit crusher"... all of them masterpieces .
Lex: "My favorite type of rock/metal is aggressive". If you've watched her metal reactions, that is not an exaggeration at all.
Was wondering when youâd get to this!!!!!!
Man I'm still till they get to some Mr Bungle and some Primus.
The perfect combination of metal and tribal, greetings from Brazil. đâđ
Love yâallâs energy and openness to sepultura, sepultura is under appreciated if you ask me regardless babe is fucking great
Shit that being said please do more on them and System Of A Down if you havenât but Iâm sure you already have
Max has this quality where his intensity makes you want to scream/sing along.... ROOTS !!!!! awesome, even all these years later, and lex going full stank metal face... you know it's good...
This was one of my favorite songs to play on stage when I was in my 20's, simple and I got to whip my hair around like a madman! Lol
Whether its the Moari Haka, the African man and his drum, or a Scotsman playing his bagpipes, it's the sound that reverberates through your soul and brings you back to your "Roots, Bloody Roots."
One of my favorite albums of all time, it never gets old. After this Soulfly is one of my favorite bands.
Hell yea, this is a banger. Deftones have a track with Max from Soulfly called "Head Up". Pretty cool collab.
Soulfly also has a song with Corey Taylor called "Jump the Fuck Up" that's pretty hype.
Edit: Soulfly is Max from Sepultura's other band. Probably should have said that lol.
Love this song!
Sepultura đ€ Listening them since 1991, definitely one of my favorite bands.
Suggestion for next Sepultura's song: Dead Embryonic Cells.
You two are the best.
I liked your reaction to one of my favorite bands. Not many reactors will react to Sepultura. You gained a sub.
This whole album is one of my all time favs! And Roots in my opinion is one of the grooviest metal songs ever. Such a great song!
Roots and mata leo are similar to me. When i think of one i think of the other i dunno why
That's biohazard
I usually am not so much into react videos but you two are cool people, very likeable.
Lex was feeling that "Cavalera Groove"!!! Love it! Brad, you was in there too, lol.
Finally finally finally. I have been wanting you to listen to this one. This one and the Live one that has the current singer is also insane too. âŠ.crazy metal voice
This was one of the first metal songs my band learned :)
I got laid to this record so much in the 90's, many memories of good times and such, my Favorite songs on that record are Dusted, Cut Throat and Attitude! In Fact, thanks to you I now have to listen to those songs and likely the rest of Roots.
I always have a good time here, you are such a nice couple.
Lex, you heard it right. Sepultura is one of Gojira's biggest influences.
Brad loves the pauses⊠god damn you brother!
Brad you're really smart man the way you break stuff down, but Lex watching you freak out over like heavy music and get into it so hardcore is awesome as somebody who listens and loaded Heavy Music watching you enjoy it for the first time is really enjoying so you guys keep it up
They were another one of the best live bands back in the 90s best mosh pits you have to dive into the old stuff
This album still hold up. Its rather spectacular for a metal album to be this timeless.
I'm squee-ing, I'm so happy you did Roots!! This whole album was total fire! You MUST check out Ratamahatta!
I did now I'm trapped in a dolls body for singing along. Help meeee.
@@beastmerc84 dammit I left my shaman kit at home
"Lookaway" for me, but yeah this whole album is soooo good, Roots and Soulfly are my go to albums when I need to get motivated.
That smile was soon as the song starts đ
The singer of this song left sepultura and made a band called The calvera conspiracy and the singer from Gojira played bass for them on tour one time
One of my favorite songs by them đ„șđ€
The last part of this song has so much goddamn groove. Lex gets it
"I wonder if Gojira is influenced by Sepultura". All metal is influenced by Sepultura is the answer.
I would say that metal that came after Sepultura is influenced by themâŠ.
@@zdenkonouzovsky6947 Well, yeah, good point.
Chaos A.D. is my favorite album.. seen em live in St Petersburg with Fear Factory that year..Bad ass!!!
Be true to yourself and know your roots and believe in them .Sepultura are amazing live .
I love this band.
Inner self, beneath the Remains, desperate cry, dead embryonic cells, nomad all great songs from Sepultura.
Oh how I was waiting for Lex instant smile at the first note
A classic! đ€đđ
I love the studio version of the rasta dutch man on some bongos where they jam our a bunch of songs. Amazingly high quality footage of it from like 96
the mighty Sepultura! about time you took this journey đ My fave thrash metal band/singer đłđł
Goose bumps and deaf ears, roots is a classic đ€đ€
Amazing you recognized the influence on gojira. The singer/guitarist of gojira actually is in a band with the singer and drummer of sepultura (brothers) in the band "Cavalera Conspiracy"
Interesting fact is this album here was recorded with an actual tribe in brazil...
Brad smiled before the break down and was bobbing his head.
Iâve been listening to this song for 20 some odd years & Iâve never once thought about what the song was about. The groove is so god damn good I forget thereâs lyrics to the song đ€Łđ€Ł
Heads up, if yâall are comfortable going to shows at the moment, Gojira is now in the U.S. and is on tour from 08 October 2021 to 10 November 2021, [as much as Iâd like to see them I am still debating if I want to go].
âRoots,â should probably have a pretty obvious meaning, but it probably helps if you know the band is Brazilian. Good interview with Max Cavalera on the Vinyl Guide podcast, and another interview with Igor Cavalera on The Void With Christina podcast (which also has video on CZcams as well as audio on whatever podcast platform you might use.)
To the dismay of thrash fans, Roots is by far my favorite Sepultura album, (I kind of fell off after Max left the band, and I followed him to Soulfly listening to them more than the newer Sepultura stuff.) They also use the Brazilian instrument, Berimbau, which is instrumental in Capoeira, on the album, most notably on the other most popular song from the album, âRatamahatta.â
Max and Iggor Cavalera are absolute legends. My favourite Sepultura track is Arise and I highly recommend it for your next listen
It does indeed sound good liveâŠ
I saw Soulfly way back and they played this. It was heavy as, you could really feel it reverberate through the floor, even hovering your foot above the floor you could feel it.
You may also like Machine Head, Davidian. Keep up the great reactions!!!
4:54. Lex starts to feel the little things. I do the same sound fx lol. Great to watch!
One of the best bands out there!!!! đ€đ»
This is thee best reaction channel
Yesss!!! I'm commenting before watching because I'm so excited !! Max Cavalera also fronts Soulfly
I was part of a "wall of death" while the band played this song.
Yal need to check out a live metal show, even the local talent are amazing. Its such a different experience, you both will dig it. Great vibes great people and the bands always rock
Great band
That was wow to me.
Should do Sepultura's 'Propaganda.' Features a couple of my all-time favorite metal guitar riffs.
Sepultura very underrated and important band. I have Latin blood and was shocked to discover a Heavy Metal band in South America!
You should also check out SOULFLY its Max Cavalera's band after he left SEPULTURA... EYE FOR AN EYE, BLEED, TRIBE are all great songs
Gojira was on the same label (roadrunner) as Sepultura and the frontman Joe Duplantier was the bass player of the cavalera conspiracy for a while so it's safe to say they were influenced by Sepultura
The lead singer of Metalica said our music makes you want to get up and break stuff. Sepulturas music makes you want to get up and start a revolution.
Liked before i watch it... đȘđ€
Every time I hear them I'm amazed by the fact that English is their 4th language and they were awesome live back then saw them with Pantera and biohazzard back in the day they did a half hour tribal drum song with members of all three bands that was f ING amazing
Love this band, this is the old lineup which was probably the best, but now they have my favorite drummer Eloy, and there last album I thought was killer.
The Pit... Im reliving the Pitđ€
Sooo good live
Yeah, i'm from Brazil and lov Sepultura. They mixed afro and indĂgenas cultures in their songs, like capoeira... đ€đœ
This sh*t gets my blood pumping. Max Cavalera is a metal making machine.

"I bet they sound so good live" its funny you say that because I actually listened to their live album first (under a pale gray sky) and this song to me sounds so much better especially the intro leading into the song off the live album.
"It's about believe in yourself, about be proud of your heritage, proud of where you come from. Really powerful but simple lyrics. So it's really about just be down with your own roots and believe in your roots." - Max Cavalera
That plauge Dr shirt is badass
The singer of this song also made a band called Soulfly. Riotstarter by Soulfly is awesome
This band won a grammy for War for territory
