This toilet was designed to have the water level higher in the tank for the best flushing using gravity. Many tanks have a fill line marked on the inside of the tank indicating the correct level. Lowering the water to half of the tank level reduces flushing efficiency. The flapper needs to close more quickly. There are three ways to make the flapper close more quickly. The most common problem is that the overflow tube in the center of the toilet is filling too quickly with water from the little tube from the fill valve. On many Korky fill valves (the thing usually on the left of the toilet), there is a flow adjuster to regulate the flow. Turn this down to decrease the flow going into the overflow tube. You can confirm if too rapid flow is a problem even without an adjuster valve by turning down the flow at the valve adjacent to the wall and seeing if the flapper closes quicker. If that doesn't work, try one of the adjustable flappers by Korky or Fluidmaster. If all that fails, add a brass nut or a washer or two or three feeding it over the chain so that it rests on the flapper.
Most people have fluidmaster as they've dominated the fill valve market. No way to adjust those that im aware of. Have a customer with a toilet that is doing two full distinct flushes...trying to figure out if theres anything i can do without sacrificing the volume flushed
Another annoying thing with double flushers is if you get a clog the amount of water can literally overflow your toilet if you dont have a plunger ready quick... I had a few close calls but I am a plunger expert after some years.
If your installing the Korky brand , read the whole instructions front and back to the very last step. There is an adjustment on the bottom of the flap which has 2 separate dials to turn. Also you have to adjust the little valve that controls the water that goes through the filler tube that goes down the big tube that fills the toilet bowl. This advice is for people who watched this and it didn't work like me. Let me know if this helped.
Just get an adjustable flapper so it closes sooner instead of lowering the water level.. It double flushes because the flapper wont close until the water level reaches the flapper and if you just lower the water level, the lower volume of water (less weight) will cause a weaker flush.. Thats why there is usually a fill line in the tank because you need to maintain that level to get a strong flush

Water level should be around 5/8" below the top of overflow tube. Usually says inside tank. Double flush is caused by the flapper not seating quick enough. Although this method may save you on a bit of water.
I’m glad it helped. Sometimes all we need to to see someone else do it and we are off and running. Please provide a thumbs up and subscribe here tinyurl.com/subscribe-tkcollette. It would be appreciated.
The main reason why a toilet double flushes is that there is too much water in the tank, so by the time the first flush of water pushes down, the flapper in the tank has not dropped down to close the inlet tube to the bowl. So either its the water level - still not low enough - or the rubber damper that closes of the water in the tank is not closing correctly. The later seems less likely as the toilet would be continuing running which yours probably isn't. Perhaps the flush assembly should be replace, if you think everything else is in place. Best of luck. Thanks, Thomas.
I started seeing double flushes after changing from the floating ball type to the one you show in this video. When I installed it I set it so that the tank would fill to the same as before. Now double flushes so it can’t be the type of float. I’m confused.
It's how much water is in your tank. Take the top of the lid off. Twist the float and drop it at least two or three clicks. this will put less water in the tank. Flush it again. If it still double flushes, then twist to the top and and drop it another two clicks. Flush, / repeat. Once you get a single flush, then you dropped the float far enough. Don't try and do it all at once or you will end up with too little water, and you won't get a good flush. So a little at a time! Please remember to like the video and supcribet at youtube.com@handyman_tom. It would be much apprecated.

Should the fill valve tube be directed into the overflow pipe or into the tank... From my understanding is some toilets dont need water to be directed to the bowl. Not sure how to tell or how exactly this works... But im sure the extra water being fed into the overflow tube to the bowl will add to the problem of it double flushing that and a flapper that is too lightweight to close sooner...
I have always seen the tube directed to the overflow pipe. For sure you'll need to make sure the flapper is closing correctly, too lightweight and it wont close correclty. Good luck.
Good video. I have a problem with my flush I was just wondering if you can help me. I have the flush with the ball and the problem is my flush lever, when I try to flush and turn the lever it will not flush. I have to tap the lever a few times untill it goes kinda heavy like the pressure is building up then when I turn the lever again it flushes. How can I fix this problem. Thanks in advance
I'm not sure where you live, but if you are in the US, I'd suggest going to one of the big box stores and simply getting an updated flushing kit and replace the whole thing. It should take more than a hour or so, and it relatively inexpensive. Good luck.
@@tkcollette Im from the UK. I got a new syphon and close coupling kit and just changed it today. It took me roughly 2 hours only because the the screw under the cisturn was rusty and would just spin round with the screw and would not come off so had to use pliers to snap it off. Other than that it was good. Thanks for your reply.
The only reason it would double flush is that the water is still entering the bowl while the toilet is flushing and that there is enough water left in the tank that the plunger is not closing back down. Good luck! It should be a minor adjustment.
Hello Johnny, if the float were too light, the water wouldn't shut off and you'd have water running into the bowl constantly. If that's the case, then you'll need to replace the whole internal flushing mechanism, not hard, I have a video for that as well. However, if the water is not constantly running, then it's not the float, but may not be holding its position after you set it. if you followed the instructions, and it still double flushes, then probably you should just replace it. Best of luck. Please provide a thumbs up and subscribe - www.tinyurl.com/subscribe-tkcollette. Thanks, Thomas.
ItchesIt if you really want it to flush twice, you could extend the full tube up a bit which would put more water in the reserve tank and then it would flush twice because there is a lot of water. However, you need to be careful because if you accidentally pop to much, if that’s even possible, the water in the tank will still move to the bowl, but the send flush may not have enough power to push through the clog but water is still coming. I’d recommend caution on this approach! It could get “messy”. Please provide a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel tinyurl.com/subscribe-tkcollette. I really appreciate that.
