  • This video show you how to fix your toilet if it is flushing on its own or ghost flushing. The refill sound is alerting you that your toilet is losing water, either internally (if there’s no water on the floor or exterior of toilet) or externally leaking if you see water outside the toilet.

    The image at 0:03 may just save my life (and wallet)! Two unit building, so two toilets. I live upstairs and the tenant (My momma) lives on the first floor. My bill has gone up by 400% since October and steadily increases every freaken God-forsaken month so that I owe a whopping $200+. Was getting ready to curse out the city when I decided to Google first. I do hear the ghost flushing and assumed it was normal...til today (and upon seeing the latest water bill). My toilet was as pictured on the green-check side. My mom's toilet was textbook as pictured on the red-X side. I simply repositioned the clip so the tube is pointed INSIDE the freaken thing. I really hope this does the trick and will try to remember to update my comment in a month!!!

    Installed new 400H valve and 2" flapper. bowl flushes and fills fine no leaks externally. Fluid cap is inches above the overflow tube and the overflow tub is 1/2" above water line. However about 2 minutes or so after the bowl fills you can hear a partial ghost flush. And it continues to ghost flush ever 2 to 3 minutes there after. The bowl flow cap is all the way open and the flapper mount is set to the max flush capacity. I was wonder what may be causing the partial ghost flush every 2 minutes? The overflow tube is pretty close to the valve so the fill tube does have a tendency to kink when using the clip and so the fill tube is just placed inside the overflow tube right now. I don't necessarily understand how just placing the tube in the overflow tube may manufacture an internal leak. ifI was also wondering if it is ok for the fill tube to be kinked at all at such a short distance. The distance is about 1 3/16" from the where the barb after the blue flow valve starts to middle of the termination point for the fill tube. (distance measured in straight line)

      C) The fill valve is working perfectly, the refilling of the tank or the micro fill is called a water waste alert and is telling you that the tank is losing water. A ghost flush is most commonly caused by a worn or dirty flapper and we suggest cleaning the bottom of the tank along with the drain (what the flapper covers) or replacing the flapper. Here are a few tips that may help. First gently pour water into the bowl and wait an hour (or less) to see if the water stays in the bowl. If the water drains out on its own then you may have a problem with your sewer pipe, it could be clogged and the blockage is causing a siphon which is draining the bowl or this may indicate that there is a defect or crack in the bowl. If the water is does not drain but stays in the bowl then simply remove the tank lid and find the rubber tubing at the top of the tank and reposition it so water drains from this tube into the overflow pipe. This will directly place water back into the bowl during and after the flush. Ghost flushing or water leaking into the bowl after a new installation
      of a flush valve may not be the flapper. We suggest checking your refill tube
      position, if you have the refill tube shoved down or
      placed inside the overflow pipe pull it out and reattach to the overflow pipe
      using our refill clip. This will stop a siphon from occurring and stop the
      leak. Another area to check is the flush
      valve lock nut. You may need to tighten ½ turn beyond hand tight to stop the
      leak. If you need help
      with your installation or have any concerns contact Fluidmaster’s Technical
      Service Department as we are available Monday through Friday from 5:30 AM
      through 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time. Contact options include: Chat www.fluidmaster.com/support E-Mail techsupport@fluidmaster.com and Toll Free 800-631-2011.

    Replaced flapper still ghost flushing

    • @FluidmasterInc
      @FluidmasterInc  Před 4 lety +1

      When your flapper is not sealing the drain and the ghost flush is still occurring check to ensure your fill valve refill tube is not inserted or shoved directly into the overflow pipe. If the tubing is inside the overflow pipe you may be manufacturing the leak. The solution here is to remove the refill tube and attach it to the overflow pipe so it does not get inserted into the pipe.
      If the refill tube is not inserted and the ghost flush is occurring then you will need to replace the entire flush valve (the drain that the flapper is attached to) in order to stop the water loss from the tank.

      Your seat could be worn or damaged or dirty. Turn off water. Flush (drain tank completely). Lift flapper. With cotton shop towel or rag clean the seat (the surface the flapper seals against.) Inspect the seat for cracks etc. If OK you could put a very little petroleum jelly on the bottom of the flapper to improve seal. Fluidmaster has a universal replacement flapper kit 555C Flush and Flapper Repair Kit with a ring of plumber's putty on the bottom that provided new sealing surface.
