I have a three year old also - I’m guessing they’re about the same age. He gets crabby over a lot of things he puts his mind too do so I often say he needs to be “re-directed!” Put a new idea in his head

I am chronically ill and disabled and became so very young and when they were young also. It was hard to say the least. I always felt like I was ruining everything about them especially through those hardest of times that none of us got to choose or deny…fyi note to file if you will~~every parent feels like the worst parent ever it’s the hard part of the job don’t forget to pat yourself and your spouse on the back from time to time❤…but that said my whole inner being changed with my ailing body and I learned how to more easily talk about their feelings. I can remember the horrible feelings in myself when I couldn’t make an event and when they would say “it’s okay”. I’ll never forget having that first moment where I was like hubby look here they need to be able to express how they really feel so we’re changing things up cool?! I’m being partially silly because you can only take life so seriously (also learned this through it all)!!😉 but for real we go them all therapists they were comfortable sharing with and expressed that they could say ANY feeling they had with their therapists no matter what and went into it was okay if they were sad or mad or any other feeling about a lot of things they were experiencing. Some didn’t love it at first but they came to. I also started saying “You know what bud it’s not okay that I can’t make it. It’s not okay with you and it’s not okay with me and that’s okay! We don’t have to love or even like everything that comes in life but unfortunately sometimes we do have to accept it. So we can just accept that we don’t like it”. Man the ways my children changed through that. Whew well tbh they are young men right now and I kept telling myself and my husband that one day these boys were going to be the most compassionate, caring, loving and responsible friends, family members, brothers, boyfriends, spouses ever because while we didn’t choose this life we grew through it, we laughed through it we ALWAYS “keep it real up in here”. This is our humorous family motto we all made together Lol! But seriously I told myself all this and I told my husband all this even as he joined me and ventured through his own chronic illness and disability… 🤦♀️ wish I was kidding here but nope true story Lol! 🤷♀️ …but even though I “knew” it I still worried because I’m a mama it’s what we do 😉 well guess what?!?! I was NOT wrong!!! They are the most amazing young men. We have 3 college graduates and 1 still enrolled 😳, awesome hard workers, a Wonderful father, the closest of brothers🥹, the sweetest of friends, 2 who have both knowingly chosen to love remarkable young women who have their own chronic illnesses, a college missionary who was set to have a masters in computer science in 4 years that abruptly declared he was called to help love college students on campus in a much different way and graduated with his Bachelors in CS and is now working on campus…I could obviously go on for days and days they are my boys!! Lol! But the point we made lots of mistakes trust me but own them with your kids let them have a voice as you have declared and I promise they will and you will see the fruit of it. It’s amazing that uuu already know this. Let’s be honest many don’t think that far before kids I know I didn’t! Your light years ahead already knowing this is what you want! Thanks for listening to me brag Lol! And I pray nothing but the best for you. I appreciate your comment and I hope it’s okay I shared a bit of our life and how we also got to this but a little bit of a harder route. Emotionally adjusted kiddos are so important.
