Sanremo is the biggest music festival in Italy...all big artists attend if they can. It has nothing to do with ESC. That is why Mahmood, il Volo and tons of others are taking part. It's representation of current Italian music so those are the faces you will see plus some new ones sprinkled here and there like Angelina (who came from Amici)
My first time watching Sanremo this year and I loved it so much! Covers night was on fire! It's really cool that it is a full festival and I watched it and loved it!

This song is incredibly deep and complex both in the melody and the lyrics. “La noia” litteraly means “The boredom”. Angelina overturns the conception of boredom, which is seen as a moment of rebirth after pain. Boredom should not be fought: it is precious time to dedicate to ourselves. And in difficult times, it is the perfect opportunity to dance about it.
This is an excellent example of how a good song turns inti perfect because of what the artist can do on stage😍🇮🇹

Let’s make clear that for us Sanremo is way more important than Eurovision, it’s not made just for the selection of the artist who will represent us, it’s totally another thing. Do not confuse the two. Angelina is amazing and I love her ❤
You are underestimating the fact that Sanremo has nothing to do with Eurovision. That's why the winner can choose to go but that's not an obligation and that's why you may see old faces as well as new ones. Millions of italian people watch Sanremo and it's such good promotion both for new and old artists. I think no one outside of Italy can quite understand the impact this festival has.

@@musicm1rage623Vocals aren't the only element. Personally I really like the song structure. About the vocals, this song is really hard to sing too, while the notes aren't impossible for a pro singer it requires an excellent breath control to be sung without falling flat.
I'm proud Angelina is going to represent us, she's stunning, has charisma, has good vocals and the song is bringing a south Italian party to eurovision, the song is so addictive imo.

No surprise that later they came up and said that the televote was having some issues.
These Eurovision folks just don't get Sanremo. To refer to it as a "preselection" for ESC is beyond ridiculous. Sanremo is a festival in its own right. It is older than Eurovision, which was actually modelled on it. ESC is not even a topic during the festival. According to the rules, the winner can decide whether to go to the ESC or not, and if they go, they can even choose to perform a different song. Italy skipped Eurovision so many times in the course of its history, but they would never dream to have a year without Sanremo.
Considering, it's been the Italian delegation's method of selection since 2015, it is a preselection for Eurovision. It's just different from your standard national final like Melodifestivalen.
If Eurovision stopped tomorrow, SanRemo wouldn't. It's not a 'national final'. It's the main event for those involved - ESC is simply tacked on by RAI because it makes sense to them to do it.

It's not a traditional national selection the same way the likes of Melodifestivalen and Festival da Canção are (even though they are also legacy song contests themselves with a legacy to uphold similar to Sanremo).
The Italian delegation's current method to select their act to represent Italy for Eurovision is through Sanremo. But unlike most other preselections, they have a different way of choosing their performer. Whoever wins Sanremo has an option to accept or refuse RAI's invitation to go to Eurovision.
Once they waived their right to refuse, the broadcaster would then tap into the pool of talent they have access to from the latest edition of Sanremo, particularly those who have provisionally made their intentions to go to ESC known beforehand.
So I hope I made that clear to you. :)

Let's not confuse Sanremo and Eurovision. We have many singers that participate in Sanremo many times, because Sanremo is more important than Eurovision in Italy. The winner is given the possibility to participate in the Eurovision, but this is not the principal goal for us.
I'm happy that new artists can shine at esc but Sanremo is the best way for an artist to shine and to gain popularity so I'm not shocked that big artists like Mahmood came back (also he has a European tour in April and a new album coming out on the 16th of February so he wanted to promote those during the Sanremo week)

Essere scelti per partecipare a Sanremo è ancora sinonimo di essere destinati al successo per gli artisti italiani. Artisti come Laura Pausini ed Eros Ramazzotti, Albano e Romina Power e i Måneskin sono stati consacrati come stars della canzone italiana, sul palco di Sanremo. Anche arrivare ultimi o penultimo ha sempre portato fortuna: il grande Vasco Rossi ne è un esempio. ESC quando ero ragazza io neanche sapevo che esistesse, mentre per Sanremo l' Italia si ferma come ai rigori per i mondiali di calcio.

@@Pggng non è assolutamente vero, durante la folle settima di Sanremo quasi tutta l’Italia si riunisce davanti alla tv, o comunque si parla solo di quello. Poi se a te non piace e non lo vedi ok, ma negli ultimi 5 anni Amadeus è riuscito a riavvicinare i giovani al festival. Fidati che il suo successo non è più dato dagli overo 50, ma da come si può notare anche solo dai social, il successo lo porta la fascia 15-35.
L’ESC credo che in Italia venga visto solo per supportare il nostro paese: si vede la performance del nostro rappresentante e i voti finali, o almeno penso che per la maggior parte delle persone sia così. Non dico che non si guardino anche le performance degli altri paesi, ma lo si fa molto alla leggera e non con la stessa passione e attenzione con cui ascoltiamo le canzoni di Sanremo. Infatti non credo che mi sia mai capitato (a me personalmente) di risentire una canzone dell’eurovision dopo la sua fine, mentre le canzoni del festival le sentiamo per un anno intero e anche più; e questo lo dico evidenziando il fatto che l’eurovision lo guardo tipo dal 2012.
Non dico che non sia una cosa bellissima per un’artista che rappresenta il suo paese andare all’eurovision, ma sta di fatto che vincere Sanremo, ma anche solo viverlo rimane l’emozione più grande a mio parere per un cantante italiano.

In Italy Sanremo has an average share between 60 and 75% and only a few matches of the Italian national football team can beat it, while Eurovision doesn't even have the share of a South American soap opera, I write this to make you understand how the former is immensely more important than the second for the Italians.
This year the final night had a peak of over 17 million viewers (almost a third of Italians) and *at 3 am it had over 90% share with 8,700,000 viewers* , Eurovision is not even remotely comparable to Sanremo!
Actually, she received 16% of the televote, the runner up received 60%, so it was the juries who chose her, not the general public. There was big big drama going on, right after covers' night, the fourth night, in which the final runner up won first place. I love Sanremo but I love also Eurovision Song Contest ❤ the only difference between Sanremo and ESC is that Sanremo has really good live orchestra. I mean REALLY GOOD 🎉 🎉🎉. sanremo luckily is not about Esc, it will never be sorry, it’s only a positive thing that came after winning sanremo…many artists really hope to chosed to go in sanremo, cause is the most important stage of italy, that’s why il volo, mahmood (with a bop) came back but also so many artists that made the history of italian music like Fiorella Mannoia or Loredana Bertè wants to partecipate to the festival :)

i read some comments from my fellow italians and like they said, people in italy vote for the sanremo winner and not the esc winner, but it’s also right to say that this year, more than ever people cared about eurovision, i know that the older generation still doesn’t care but all of us young voted for a singer also based on the esc entry so it’s not true that all of us decide only the sanremo winner

I totally agree with you on the "recycling" issue, even before hearing a song of a comeback artist i cringe a bit at the thought of an artist who had such a great time or feel they haven’t fulfilled their Eurovision mission / dream that they wanna return for more. I'm sorry to tell you that including the word "cumbia" doesnt make the song latin american. The vibe is fully southern italian and the dialect, words used and rythm are something you always hear in Italy, "Che t'o dico a fa" from her has the same vibe and got famous af in Italy for being an ITALIAN song.
Maybe try not to be salty (something impossible for spanish eurovision fans) and just judge by quality, not by anger :)
