    In 1985 the movie Restless natives was released. The film is based in Edinburgh but was also shot in Glasgow, Linlithgow and the highlands.
    I have spent the last 6 months tracking down the locations for a photo project.

    I still remember Edinburgh back in 1985 86 time and watching this takes me back to the good old days of Edinburgh!
    Edinburgh now has changed alot since this film in 1985.
    Edinburgh buses back then were better and Scottish people cheering the clown and wolf along princes street! Makes me proud to be Scottish!

Although I'd love to find out some of the names or rough areas outwith Edinburgh.. Like the long country road drapped by trees either side.... Maybe I'm just being a bit fussy.. lol... lol..     I remember Edinburgh before it was jam packed with tourists - used to go out at night - could park your car on Princes Street and go to a club - even the clubs wernt jam packed - and there were all these small bars all over the new town area - some of them tiny wee places were you could go for a quite drink with someone and there would only be about 6 other people in them if that - it was very relaxing - and all the little junk shops owned by old foggies that had been there for years and years - it was a magical place back then - not now

    Saw this film back in 85 and watched it again yesterday. Just as relevant and maybe more so today. One of my all time favourites. Great work getting all the locations and with busses and bikes in the same spot!

      Keep an eye on Eastwood park theatre's website. The week before lockdown in 2020 they showed the film on the big screen in the theatre and followed the film with a Big Country tribute band and they were great. You might get a showing like this in the future if there is enough demand.

      Lots of time spent on Google maps. I couldnt believe it when I found the same tree in the lane at beecraigs Country Park.

    Love it! Especially the wee Ronny quote at the end. Only one minor suggestion, could you tell us where the images are from? I get the Edinburgh city centre, Anderston bus station and necropolis ones but the country shots are beautiful. Is the new town featured Livingston or somewhere in Edinburgh?

    Where is the location shown when Ronnie and Will were leaving the city to do the first bus holdup? There was a dwelling on the left as they passed by going into a country setting

    I just learned that Vincent Friel ( will the wolfman) passed on the 14th april this year ( 2024) aged 64 ...r.i.p.

    I dragged the family around the ones I knew of in Edinburgh, even tried to recreate the scene with my daughter where Will was sweeping the path in the park lol

      Cheers. I spent hours on Google street view or for the likes of the grave stone I made a guess that it might be Sighthill cemetery in Glasgow then spent 3 hours trying to find it. As you might have noticed from my other videos I like to try and find as many film sets as possible and I will soon be launching rewoundandfound.com as a place to keep all my projects. Im glad you tried to recreate the litter scene. Social services would have a field day if you had got her to rob a bus lol.

    Is that the Rest And Be Thankful @3:24? thats quite some distance from Glasgow or Edinburgh even by car let alone a Suzuki GP125 at 65MPH

      That is the rest and be thankful but they stretch the bounds of reality even further when the hold up a bus just north of Fort Augustus and are home in time for dinner while 2 up on a GP125.

      They did the same in my original home town of Sheffield with the full Monty, been up in the Highlands 18 years and recognise most of these places. Don't let geography get in the way of a good film. 😁

    Have just watched the film and theirs a shot with one the guys, Clownman with Iain McCall and lm certain its Paddys Market they walk through, where he shakes the metal fence the single story wooden building used to be a hostel for the homeless l remember it before it got demolished the Glasgow High Court is there now and the lane is closed and fenced off, and of course i remember Anderson bus station the building that was build 500yds to far West that it didnt get used as much use as it should of and disapeared from use, great film have not seen it from at least the 80s when it came out it gave me a real dose of nolstagia really enjoyed it...

      BTJustice Yes i saw it yesterday and absolutely loved it, the lane is at the Bridgegate near the Saltmarket and i think King Street and car park are in the background but it was filmed at night so its darker but i do remember the wooden building quite sure about that.

      Just had a look and Shipbank lane looks spot on. Looks to me like they are heading towards the river and you can almost make out one of the fancy pillars at the end of the railway bridge. Cheers.

      BTJustice No problem, it was almost a double take moment for me then i noticed you hadnt mentioned it in your clip l have a couple of photos i took decades ago somewhere of Paddys Market, you can add in your description perhaps, and well done on the clips you put together i enjoyed them.

      Beecraigs, Linlithgow. Wpuld reconise it in a heartbeat, been running about there since I was wee. There's another scene not shown in the video where they take the road oit of Linlithgow as well, it's changed a wee bit since then too

      I cant take credit for the music. I would have loved to have used a Big country track but I would have had problems with copyright so I found this track on the You Tube music library.
