If he runs, he is a vc! If he stands still he is a well disciplined vc!!
Plicht no shit!!!!!
War crimes are funny
Hahahah war is hell brother hahaha
__ get some!!!!
Hey Cowboy, Doc Jay & 8 Ball are wasted.
That that looks more fun than being at shot show.
why aren't they at shot show this year?
Because shot show is supported by the NRA
Dear Eric and Chad,
Thank you for showing this XM177E2!! Stationed at U-Tapao RTNAF, Thailand, for 3 years, a good portion of that time, I was assigned to 'augment' the base Security Police airbase defense teams. This was the rifle issued to me. We got the job done a few times.
Did you guys (the soldiers using the rifles) want a heavier bullet and faster twist? Or was that ever even a concern to anyone besides the high-brass that was viewing the situation as a whole?
We called it the GAU-5A in the Air Force. Air Force guns didn’t have a forward assist.
this is about the only "new" line of AR's that peak my interest among the flood of modern AR 15's. its good to get back to the root of where it started
Brownells is doing it right. Sweet options.
More companies need to make retro guns. I am not into red dots so retro is awesome to me.
Why not have a modern gun for all the tacticool things and an old style retro gun? 🤔
exactly! i dont have a massive affinity for optics but cool guns like this tickle me pink.
If Colt was run by anything resembling competent executive management, they'd have been selling retro AR rifles for years now. Brownells is going to sell these like crazy. Awesome.
Your audio always amazes me, the fact that the shot, spring, and trigger reset are all near the same level and the steel ringing is so easily audible.
I like the old style look w/carrying handle.
Mexico City
That kills the Retro look. In those days we used iron sights. But if you insist on optics I have an original Colt 3x scope on one of mine.
C Kim even if it's not retro or period accurate I think it'd look wild with a rear set of flip up irons and abit of rail.
But I'm pretty sure these are fixed to the frame unlike the newer styled m16's.
Joseph Billings
Yes the old style iron sights were fixed to to upper. The original had windage only on the rear with two peep holes near/far and front post for elevation. The newer A-2 had rear sights with windage and elevation and the front post had elevation also. They made a rail that fit into the carry handle with a locking knob for optics. You could use the iron sights with the optics mounted. Very cool!
just waiting on the upper to finish mine!
Black hawk down builds everywhere... love it
Jeramy Gamble hell yeah.
I just shot this one at the Range Day... And it's my favorite of the line up... Crazy lightweight ❤️🔥
by the time i realized what target you were shooting at you switched targets
This is probably one of the best looking rifles of all time. I wish I had one. I would be happy with this as my only rifle.
Man I miss these videos. These remind me of when I first got back into guns in 2018.
We need more companies to do stuff like this. Love me some retro firearms. I've been itching for an M16A1 style AR for a while.
Same here
Out of most shooting channels on CZcams your shooting fundamentals are the best, like your trigger control, after you fire you let it out till the reset and stop. Most people just fire and take their finger off the trigger
Cars always had round handguards found on the M2 military versions. CAR15s or the original XM are the cream of the crop when it came to vintage Vietnam era equipment. I think it still has that raw appeal it had when it first came out. They were never reliable on full auto due to the shortened barrels; but then the M16s did not fully evolve until the A1 came around. I am glad to see Brownell reminding everybody of the XMs, maybe the Stoners or the other Armalite guns. In my opinion the CARs were the most attractive weapon ever produced in the 20th century.
My first AR was a CAR-15 back in the late 80s and it looked just like that. Mine had the 16" barrel and the slip over type flash hider so it looked like a shorter barrel.
2 videos today!? You guys just made my week
The brownell retro rifles are really damn nice looking.
I remember this as a CAR-15 / CAR-16 for sale at the local sporting goods store when I was in grade school. Too young to buy, and mom and dad were anti gun - so I didn't get one for when I was old enough. YES... you could buy cash and carry a select fire CAR-16 back then!!! As I remember, CAR stands for Carbine Automatic Rifle. You could also get the AR-15 / M-16 the same way... cash and carry - one semi - the other select fire! Born 20yrs too late...
I did not wait for Brownells and built one a few years back and had it coated grey like the originals... Love my XM177!
[IT AINT ME INTENSIFIES]
Oh hell yeah! I love fixed carry handles!
Some people are Poo pooing the use of one in twelve twist rifling, however its not really an issue when you consider the fact that probably 90% of 5,56 ammo currently slung out of civilian AR's is the 55gr variety. Not to mention a 1 : 12 twist should work a whole lot better for those who like to play around with one of the many .22lr conversion bolt groups out there and it kind of seems like a great choice.
You can clearly see the upper reviever marked NDS... I just bought an XM177E made on a Nodak Spud reciever.. Excellent example of the Classic Colt rifles...The CAR-15 is my favorite personal weapon of all time...
This and the 601 are the replicas I want the most. I hope Brownells starts making the complete rifles again
The pistol grip sling point wasn't a replacement for the rear sling point, it was for the front. Use the stock position and the pistol grip position and you get basically a single point sling set-up. Try it using a Vietnam era sling.
I love a Colt (XM177E2) carbine .223 Remington ammunition box 20 round magazine original legend of Vietnam War era.
THANK YOU for the not shot coverage. I get so sick of shot show videos this time of year.
Holy shit that buffer spring is loud!
While most people would not shoot out to 300 with the xm177, many of the MACVSOG guys have talked/written about getting kills out that far. If I recall correctly, operations in Cambodia had much further engagement ranges than Vietnam and Laos.
Sweet video, keep up the great work guys! Any "Be All You Can Be" Army guy can appreciate what you guys do........Hoo-Ah!
I shot the M16A1 in the Marines with the 1-12 twist barrel, the 55 gr. bullets ball ammo was good enough for me to shoot Expert 74-78
My late Granddad would get a kick out of this. He ran off to Vietnam in 1969 and to this day no one in the family knows what exactly his job was, but I have a hunch this carbine would look VERY familiar to him . . . .
Now can I finally do that Blood Diamond build i've always wanted to do?! All I need is some baby poop green paint...
ajttambo I believe the ar in that movie had a a2 upper and a aimpoint on top
I noticed it has the incorrect castle nut. Likely due to parts availability.
Troy was installing 7 hole handguards instead of 6 hole on its XM177E2 due to supply issues they experienced towards the end of the rifles production run.
Makes me want to start working on my A1 build have tear drop rear and front sight and 1/12 twist barrel just need upper and lower buffer tube and furniture it’s getting there
Man I regret not building or buying one of these back when stuff was cheap.
The new FN SCAR SC and the new Sig P365 look awesome!
all i hear is that spring
P0LYPRO I love it
P0LYPRO lol same here
The sound of America spreading freedom!
This gave me another flashback
The 1/12 twist with the 55 gr bullet gave the M16's in Nam the nickname the " Meat clever" for the barrel barely stabilized the bullet causing it to tumble on impact .
All modern bullets upset when entering tissue. Not a trait unique to the bullet or the rifle.
Ahhh... The Good ole days!!!✌🇺🇸🇺🇸
The good ole Vietnam War days? Yeah, who wouldn't want to go back in time and experience it all again: the rain, the mud and mosquitoes, the ambushes, seeing your friends die in a stupid jungle halfway around the world for a war no one cares about back home, civvies burning in napalm strikes... what a great time!
great time fighting evil commies in the jungle and saving the world.
still want to go back in time to kick the evil commies ass.
Flak 88 Shockwave I think facists trying to take over the world take priority over commies. Don't you? That proxy war was all about the cold war. Proving we're better and trying to stomp out commies. I think you got things mixed up. During ww2 the enemy of our enemy is our freind. But that didn't last for long.
Flak 88 Shockwave I don't completely disagree with what you said, just wondering how people like you constantly find your way into pro-American genre videos...troll much?
I love these rifles, but it's amazing they functioned without m4 feed ramps. I've owned several from a hodgepodge of cheaper manufacturers over the years
Isn’t this basically the m4 before we had an m4
exactly. It's an experimental M4 (hence the name XM)
Love the different report the last round fired out of each magazine makes very interesting
My god that is a fine looking rifle
I love the sound of this rifle.
The sound is just like in film Platoon. They did good getting the sounds on the retro and the film.
Same rifle sgt Barnes carries in platoon.
Love that flash hider
All these need now are some piney or echo triggers and they'll rock. Only issue I see is the slow rifling twist but I could actually live with that.
What? VC have made it to the wood line outside Atlanta, GA.? I blame Chad.
XM-177E2 not A2
You are right
I love that buffer spring sound
To bad they didn’t use the non castle style buffer tube lock ring. 😢
did this rifle go out of production with Brownell's? never seem to be in stock and the other retro rifles no longer deliverable from the factory - what happened - i'd buy this rifle in a hot minute and the BRN-605 - tooo cool, im disappointed
Great intro vid! Tks Brownell's and IV8888.
So do you like this or the Troy one better? Is it the Griffin Armament XM Comp on it?
The old school techno. Lovely.
I thought he was going to say "we've got Zipps in the wire!" Lol
Didn’t like the 3rd burst of the A2. Had the choice back in the 80s switch over or keep my A1.
Same here. I can't wait to see the A1 version. I may jump on one.
You should have staged a fake Charlie in one of the trees.
Charlie Tuna would've been funny...think on it...smile!
Damn some of those cartridges where coming out at the 5 o'clock....
So that 4 inch compensator is pinned and welded right?
What part of that rifle makes it worth $1300? The a1 upper shouldn't cost more than $100 more than a flat top, the stock can be had for less than $100, I'm confused. An A2 upper with a 10.5" FN manufactured chrome lined barrel can be had for $300 from PSA. This is at least $500 over priced.
Then build your own, chunk.
Its simple, A1 parts are not produced in the same quantity as A2 parts, infact they havent been made for decades up untill recently. So they will cost more, this is a historical reproduction not some PSA hack together build. When your trying to match features from old rare guns its going to cost more than an amalgamation of parts from the lowest bidder IE a PSA rifle
As Andre said it's a matter of supply vs demand. AR15s can be built now for under $400 because there is a huge surplus of parts and a stagnant market post Hillary scare. To retool and produce parts that haven't been made in years costs money even though they are "old school" items that everyone was trying to replace 15 years ago because they were obsolete.
Because it has quality staking.......lmao
Rifles like these cost money to make, especially when you consider the fact that for like the XM16E1 clone, nobody really makes correct lower receivers for those except Nodak Spud which is the only one that comes to mind. Everything on those rifles is newly manufactured, including the furniture, no surplus parts were used.
I remember a us army man 1.6 scale finger with that exactly same rifle like this one. I love it. It really looks beautiful. It will be nice if it can git desert camo paint
Damn... you can really hear that buffer spring
Don't leave without Sgt Elias!
Hey, that's the rifle Sergeant Elias was shot with!
Dutchman 2 I’m surprised nobody else has mentioned platoon
Joe Selke it was the 1st thing I thought of.
Ive got the troy xm177e2 version (which has a wonderful aluminum butt stock unlike the brownells not hating on the brownell just worth mentioning given the similar price point)...shot some 55 grain remanufactured ammo at 150yds with it standing.(unusually good day for me) I grouped 4 shots about the size of the avg adult palm..with a 5th flyer which i have no doubt was me not the rifle. It seems more accurate than im probably capable of. Its my new favorite go to rifle for "walking the property" type of work
On a side note. i have to wonder if some or all of brownells and troys parts for these rifles are sourced from the same origin.
yup I have build 2 if them a few years back I guess I should just have waited haha owell It is nice to see some one making retro rifles
I was looking at a msr15 as a first ar but this has me rethinking that
Both solid choices. I have the MSR15 recon and love it.
Can you please bring the 6.5creedmoor out to the tower again like y'all said you would or maybe a 6.5creedmoor vs 6.5 grendle or something been awaiting
"Sarge's down I'm in charge
Vc's everywhere"
Based on historical photos, the delta ring should actually be tapered on the XM177E2
If you apply some heavy grease to the buffer spring that spring sound will go away.
I want that 308. with the brown furniture.
Eric you do know the xm177 was used well into the 80's right? of course the original were either 10.5 in or 11.5 inch barrel. xm177e3 was the last issued to some of us during the 80s. also the 177 was never upped to a 1 in 12 inch threading it maintained the 1 in 14 it had originally.
It Sure would be nice to see a meltdown video on it
Why the 55gr hate? I shoot m193 only and have never had issue hitting my target. Be it a2s carbines a3/4 types 1/9 1/7 literally tge only time ive noticed less accuracy is 5.56 in a .223 wylde
I pretty much only run 55g out of a 1/9 20" pencil barrel ar and a 1/8 11.5" pistol.
looking classic with the AR
Be advised, we got zips in the wire down here.
Its suppose to be the xm177 (E2), not A2, and i like it, but troy got it the most right with it being in xm grey, with the proper receiver markings. and no one seems to get the original ejection port cover right, might not bother everyone, but it bothers me lol
"I think we've got some VC..."
**Cuts to harmless steel silhouettes**
LOL if that's not 100% me at the range, I don't know what is.
Love this style of m4
This and Rugers new blued sp101 is on my list of gotta get in 2019 !
I’ve been noticing in a few of the videos that chad and Eric refer to the rifles as being zeroed to “him” I.e. the other person. Anyone know what that’s about? Especially in reference to iron sights over a red dot or something, shouldn’t point of aim/point of impact be the same for anyone as long as they’re using the sights the same way? I’ve personally zeroed everything from handguns to ARs and precision rifles that countless people have shot and used and I’ve never heard of having to change a zero between users.
Do to differences in vision the zero can be different.
Would be neat to see 10% gel test w the 12 twist barrel and 55 gr. FMJ
Awesome video. Thank you.
Y'all need to review the Brownells AR10
Another great video Eric!
Loving the iron sights
I have the Troy version, its great fun!
Hey. It would be so awesome if you can do a meltdown video on the N-PAP ak, only becuse there's so many people who have it and wants to see how reliable it really is!Please and thank you sir!!!
Now Brownell can make a Retro M14
Seems most of the noise you get from the action is due to the buffer spring being an OEM pogo stick.
I hope palmetto state does the same thing with the retro line but cuts the price in half
I really like it, but the thing is, I don't want to buy it, I want to build it! Start selling all the parts, Brownells, if you don't already!
I'm sure they sold the part kits before the full rifles.
