Woodlawn Cemetery is a cemetery located at 19975 Woodward Avenue, opposite the Michigan State Fairgrounds, between 7 Mile Road and 8 Mile Road, in Detroit, Michigan. The cemetery was established in 1895 and immediately attracted some of the most notable names in the city. The grounds encompass 140 acres (57 ha) and were planned by civil engineer Mason L. Brown and horticulturalist Frank Eurich. At the time of the first burial in 1896, Woodlawn was outside the city limits. Eurich also developed Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.
Motown Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group. It was founded by Berry Gordy Jr. as Tamla Records on January 12, 1959, and incorporated as Motown Record Corporation on April 14, 1960. Its name, a portmanteau of motor and town, has become a nickname for Detroit, where the label was originally headquartered. - Zábava
It’s is a beautiful cemetery . Rosa Parks is a cousin of mine and the crypts that stand adjacent to Parks grave is where my grandparents lay in their final resting places. Woodlawn has so many gems that rest here . The cost has gone up a lot because of the famous people that have been interred here. Thanks so much for sharing this video of my hometown and because of your footage I able to see my grand parents crypts ❤️
3rd cousin? 4th cousin?
@@bakerbaker525 Mrs. Parks was a Black Southern lady. The degree of kinship is irrelevant. Third and 4th cousins are viewed just as close to us as first cousins.
@@sandraatkins2539
That is your opinion and not the opinion everyone else's.
Thank You for recognizing the Black artist who help found gospel and r&b.. I hope you continue..
Who was the artist that you're referring to MS Gregg? If you don't mind responding 😆😆
@@timbibin1301
Well Mr. Bibin, black artist such as Aretha Franklin and many others that were mentioned started out in gospel. And help give the world a listening ear to R&B.. Many old school black artist are known but many have been forgotten..
Since when they move Mike body🤔
@@quincyhodgins8514 they didn’t. They buried memorabilia under the marker you just saw.

My cousin the Queen of Soul ❤❤. rest on Aretha
Your cousin the late Great Queen of Soul is one of my favorite singers.I have a CD of several gospel songs that she sang. She gave the gift of music to the world.
Well done they all deserve to be remembered
Rip Aretha, my favorite singer. Amazing to think of life and how all these famous people traveled the world and when it comes down to it, they rest in a quiet solemn place without all the fans and fanfare.
I always think the exact same thing man
Some people live truly extraordinary lives, but We're all equal in death.
The rest of the Franklins are just around the corner: Carolyn, Cecil, and Erma. Looks like Aretha decided that she would be on the wall with their dad.
Tigerlily so true well said!☺
One thing you need to realize too is that one thing I'm realizing no matter how much money or success we get we all wind up passing and going to the same maker if you believe in Jesus Christ as your lord and savior he died on the cross for our sins so that we may be forgiven and be internity in eternity when we leave out of the body into the spirit world what hurts me the most is that you can have a hundred million plaques in the wall and do all these great things for people and so forth but the consequences Adam and Eve s i n n i n g is death something no matter how much money how many plaques you making this life for how many movies how many friends and people you know we are all bound it doesn't discriminate and color race gender learn2serve and worship Jehovah Our Father I am not perfect cuz we're born into sin and a corrupt world but if you've asked for forgiveness to the Almighty and you change your ways and thoughts and Provisions it says in the Bible that you shall be forgiven and have eternity with the Lord
I was born in 1947 and love love love all the all R&B artists. 🙏🙏🙏
Well done !!! We all should love Detroit for what it gave the entire world in so many distinguished industries for so long.
Detroit has so much history. Been there. Queen of Soul ARETHA Franklin. Sisters are on the other side. Erma also signed. Carolyn also was a backup singer on some of Arethas songs and videos. She was also very beautiful. She too had a good voice. Sad she died so young. Both erma and carolyn was there to support thier sister. There was a lot of love in that family. Most those crypts are paid for in advance. I'm sure ARETHA made sure if they could not be on the same side she made sure they were close.she probally picked out her space when she did her fathers. The love and respect she had for her father, naturally she would wanted to be near him. Lot great singers out there, no way you could do it all in one day scott. There so much talent, inventors, many many more that made Motown what it was, not just the music. It looks peaceful. Lot amazing great headstones. Some unique. That's why I like going to cemeteries, no matter where I go. I like to stop, visit. Pay my respect. Even if was not born.till the late 70s or 80s many of these people you have heard of
Early am when they show the videos you.know some the best music was in the 50s, 60s 70s and 80s. Something for every body. Most songs you can find download and I go wow. Thank.you Scott. For the ones you did show. I'm binge watching. Lot my videos was either deleted, or shown as I never watched. Ok CZcams and Google are now connected. But I don't mind rewatching. I'm a night owl. Or when I have time off to watch.i watch.🙂✌👍💯💜. Take care, be safe.🙂🤗✌🦋🌠🌻🌷. Love, respect and positivity always nj.🧘♀️🙌❤💫🦋🌠🌻✌🖐.
Fantastic array of different avenues of fame. Rosa Parks and Aretha Franklin, so special and all RIP.
I love how respectful you are, and also how you try to educate people about their accomplishments. Well done.
This was done very well. You should be proud :)
YES, thank you for this!☺
Rosa Park is my hero. Thanks for sharing this video.. I became her back in the 60's.. I moved from the back of the bus to the middle ,and believe me I stood my grounds... I was not arrest ..but later in life I looked up this awesome lady and she is my Hero..
❤️Detroit. All great souls rest in peace here.

Nicely done sweetie. Billy's grave inscription has a quote from him at the top and the bottom part is about his life. His quote is this: It's said that a picture is worth a thousand words... I say then a song is worth a thousand pictures. A million feelings and a lifetime of memories.
Nicely said Billy Davis.
Until this video, I didn't know that Billy is buried next to Lawrence Payton. Thanks for another lesson and video. Peace...
I visited Lawrence Payton's grave last Summer & didn't even see Billy Davis'. Sometime this year I'm going to have to go back with a lot more time.
So many great names. Rosa Parks, Aretha Franklin, Uriel Jones, and more. Really nice tour. Thank you.
In September 1987 my band The Fabulous Cruisers opened for the original Four Tops. At that gig I brought along a promo 45 of "7 Rooms Of Gloom" that all 4 signed. This was my full circle moment. I love you guys

Beautiful & Peaceful tour♡
You should also do Woodmere cemetery, this is also filled with famous Detroiters. A lot of automotive, and other famed industry related. Woodmere is such a cool place, that there is a park inside for people to hang out. We Detroiters love it.
The Winnans family is one gospel music talented family away from the Clark/Moss family also from Detroit.
I agree, the Winnans are very talented!
The Moss/Clark family voices are Amazing, Strong and beautiful! My mom and her siblings are Moss from Selma Alabama ... ❤️❤️❤️
Just imagine how beautiful it is there when snow has fallen all over this cemetery.
We have done a couple guided "Cemetery Walks" through the cemetery. Highly recommend it. Thanks for all the love you give Detroit, Scott.
I remember going here as a kid with my dad, my grandfather was buried here in 1975 in an unmarked grave.
Oh wow, do you know where the grave is ?
@@SCOTTONTAPE I don't but my dad does.
You should get him a grave marker
Will anyone ever buy him a headstone?
I Love Detroit!!! City of Soul music!
Thank you for this wonderful video. So many of the people I admired growing up are buried in this cemetery. N
I had no idea that Diana Ross had a future final resting place and I've never seen anyone visit Aretha Franklin's crypt. This cemetery is definitely on my bucket list. Thanks for the great preview, Scott!
I went to visit Aretha Franklin's crypt a few months ago, i just might stop by Woodlawn cemetery later on today to visit her crypt again now that it's a new year.. and just to pay my Respects once again.
Oh wow...I remember Levi gave me 10 bucks trick or treating lol. I thank my granny for teaching me to recognize some of the names and faces of her favorite groups
The spinners only had a few minor hits in the 1960s. Where they really became famous was the 1970s, starting with I’ll be around
Ooooook and?
Bobby Smith sang lead on that I love that spng
I think it’s a shame came up first
@@kdshenderson He said that they were famous in the 60s and they really didn’t have a lot of hits in the 60s. I haven’t 35 likes people knew what I was talking about. Maybe you should pay attention

This was a great video Scotty. Some of the individuals I did not know at all but still I paid tribute with you in honour of their talent and good deeds. Thank you. I love the concept of placing a rock on the grave ( which I never knew before watching your videos) and I intend to do the same when I visit loved ones at the cemetery. To say the least I went to Detroit, your favourite city on my way to Canada a long time ago. Hopefully one day. Whenever you go to LA it would be nice if you could do a video on Andy Gibb’s grave. I liked him a lot. All the best Scotty. Love to your Mum, your sister and you. Take care❤️✌🏼🤗💕
I love how you telling there history!!!😍😍🤩🤩
Spinners Bobbie Smith was a wonderful lead singer. Mighty Love, Then Came You, I'll Be Around, Could It Be I'm Falling In Love, One of a Kind Love Affair. Yea!!!
Great dam song
Would you Believe they never won a Grammy Noor made it to the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame I think that is really sad they were very underrated
And don’t forget Sadie every time I hear that song it reminds me of my grandmother and I get very emotional

I grew up on Motown, the four tops were my favorite.
I went to LA last summer and visited some famous cemeteries and old Hollywood spots, but Detroit is next on my list. There's SO much history there too, from music, cars, activism, and Hoffa lure (your video about that is great btw). I can't wait to see all this. It's a city that was always at the heart of the US. Rosa Parks is definitely one of my heroes too, I will pay my respects to her when I can get there to visit.
I use to work there. You did a great job. Working there is met a few living celebrities who came by to see the late greats that passed. One was a member from U2, one of the Scotty Brothers from the Whispers. Got a chance to speak to Martha Vandella and Levi Stubb's of The Four Tops, Wife.
Great job. I enjoyed your tour.
