  • Today I decided to discuss why the Shimano Deore never got replaced on my Marin San Quentin 2, despite the fact that every other component was.
To be clear the cassette is a 11-51 tooth
Happy Holiday, and an amazing new year all to all!

Great message! It’s a great bike you got there!

Enjoying the series of this bike. I have a sq2 as well. Got a discounted demo version from bikes online. Couldn’t even tell it was ridden. So far only thing I did was change out the stock seat, bars, stem, grips and added one of those little front fenders that are held on by zips. The dropper on mine is quite hard to use and isn’t very pleasant. A complete upgrade with lever and all is next on my list. Just not sure what to buy as I’m not too smart when it comes to doing upgrades myself or knowing what is compatible fitment

Thanks. I think those are all very good choices for upgrades. I had no real complaints for the stock bike, except the dropper post and trigger did seem less then responsive. Other then that I had no issues with the bike. The bike is solid and doesn’t need a whole lot of upgrades imo. If you consider going tubeless, just remember the stock wheels are tubeless compatible, but the stock tires are not (i found out the hard way tbh, lol)

Coming from a guy still rocking a 7-speed Shimano Tourney, any drivetrain upgrade is worth it. That’s actually next on list when I figure out if I even can.

Thats not a terrible drivetrain, despite the lack of cluctch its definitely reliable. I’ll tell you what I learned the hard way when I upgraded from a tourney, the stock hub usually doesn’t go straight to a 10 speed cassette! Lol happy holidays

@@RomansDowntime I’d be happy getting a 9sp Advent on there. Just haven’t had the time to really dive into the measurement research. I already ditched the 3x in the front though so it needs… something haha

@@CleaningTheObstacles oh mam, the sheds a good amount of weight. i could see why you want the 9 speed to make things a bit easier. Best of luck on it!

@@CleaningTheObstacles go for it man. I have the advent 9 with with a clutch and with a sunrace 11-46 cassette. It’s awsome and very reliable.

@@jurisx85 indeed that is the tentative plan. However, figuring out if I can fit a 9 speed cassette on the hub it came with has been a nightmare to research.
