WILL IT START? Holley Terminator X Troubleshooting on a Spicy 6.0 LS Engine Swapped S10

  • This time on SPPTV Rob and Mike go to the rescue to prevent our friend Jerry from selling his brand new Terminator X! Will it start?
    Everyone has been through, or knows someone who has been through their first standalone EFI experience. Some with HP Tuners, some with Megasquirt, and many with Holley EFI. The Terminator X is sold as a plug and play solution for people looking to run an LS engine in a project vehicle. In most cases it probably is, but that depends on everything being correct mechanically with your engine; and all the information you plug into the Holley Terminator X ECU. If the computer does not know what specific parts it has at it's command, it will not be able to work as it should.
    Jerry's truck has been around for awhile but this combination is all new. it is a 6.0 based LS with aftermarket heads, a cam with over 240 duration, and nice parts throughout. If this video reaches 500 likes we will do a closer look at the truck once it is cruising the streets!

    We realize drilling a hole is not optimal. But the IAC settings seemed to effect no change, and we were trying to prevent a carb from being put on this sick engine! Plus the TB with the hole won't be on the truck much longer, and will be replaced by a larger unit and TBSS intake. This was just an exercise in making it run for now.

    Hey guys just FYI most LS Holly setups you have to crank open the throttle body including the stock ones. Then you do TPS resets. When you can adjust it to where the IAC percentage is between 5 and 10%, it's almost perfect every time.

    Good job guys! A few tips. "Startup IAC position - hold time" set to 0 so idle spark and IAC control takes over immediately after initial fire. The learn table is always active, you don't need to transfer learn to base for it to change fueling. Always say no to smoothing and smooth manually. Always need to do the static timing check after first fire. Idle spark control will do a max 8 degrees + or - from your base spark table. Usually you have to jack up the "IAC parked" table with a stock style TB on a cammed engine. I like using the strip chart for start and idle tuning. Aim for 2% or less IAC at warm idle at target idle RPM. Happy tuning.

  • @HeadFlowInc
    @HeadFlowInc Před 2 lety +2

    He should have picked a tune from the tune files as a base tune. Simple then let it learn from there.
    Well crap that Camshaft must be huge with a really low manifold vacuum at idle. Good work guys that was a challenge!

    • @BDauto86
      @BDauto86 Před 2 lety +1

      Yep exactly what I would do. I bet that aftermarket tb needs the IAC passages ported and the inlet before and after throttle blade opened up or like you said it's just an aggressive cam profile and tricky.

  • @yahawashitheserpentofbrass2140

    You have to get that IAC count down to 2 to 10% at above 160 degrees. Tune the throttle screw up or down depending on IAC count then do an auto tps reset. U have to keep doing it until the IAC count is between 2-10%..

  • @njracing4397
    @njracing4397 Před 2 lety +2

    I had a very similar issue with a turbo 6.0 . IAC always 100% and wouldn’t idle. I tried another IAC then another map sensor. I was going to try and drill TB because at 1500 rpm holding blades open it seemed fine. I went back through the wizard and realized I used cam duration at 007 lift since it was first duration number on cam card. When I switched to duration at 050 lift truck idles great and went right into learn mode.

    Mike you did a good job with no Holley experience. As you seen, it's pretty easy to use. If you can use HPT, Holley is way, way easier, and not only more intuitive software wise, but controls better. If you transfer the learn to base, it is more accurate than transferring the difference in fueling in HPT.

  • @nocturnalspecialties642
    @nocturnalspecialties642 Před 10 měsíci

    On a stock throttle body, take the idle screw out and thread it in from the top. Gives you more range of adjustment and easier to adjust.
    Also start out with more airflow than you think you'll need. Its easier to work to down than up. That way you dont have to do a TPS autoset every time only till you're done.

Sounds like a fairly common/basic setup, I hate to hear you've spent good money and havent got the results your looking for. • @SPPTVarmy
      @SPPTVarmy  Před 2 lety

      That was the thing, we maxxed out the throttle adjustment screw, did a tps re learn, and it still wasn't enough, behaved the same basically. The Shithorse is DBC and works without a hole. But this S10 has big ass ported heads, 240+ duration cam. We could have just pulled the IAC and saw if it ran like that. Likely the 2 IAC's we tried are faulty. I found several guides on setting them up in the Holley software and none of the settings suggested made a change.
