- The moments this year out on tour have had crazy finishes. With winners, we get losers as well. Some really close chances for young stars in disc golf, for right now the sting of losing hurts. These are The Saddest Moments in Disc Golf 2023 (Part 1).

I love the quality of this content. I would love to see these stories playing weekly before each day's broadcast (like a This Week in Baseball).
Ella's loss was mostly due to poor execution, but I think she made a couple of crucial errors as well. She should have played a safer, lower tee shot on 16 with zero risk of going OB. On 18 I don't mind her going over water, but she couldn't afford to go OB so far away from the basket. I don't know if her release point was off and it also turned over, but it seemed like she was aiming way right.

Good video. That moment with Ella Hansen being comforted by her fellow competitors was really moving. Disc golf isn't always about having the lowest score. Sometimes it's about the people you play it with.
KJUSA took the time to take a pic with my son when he took down the Idlewild open in 2019. It made my sln feel super cool and made hum think DG was just the coolest thing ever. We were in the gallery watching KJ's card. Hes an awesome player and I think he wil have a period of mass dominance in the sport.
I dont really see E Hansons as sad so much. She had some really bad shots down the stretch

Not only that, she had a shot lead going into 18 and played the stupid route rather than the safe play and matching Tatars shots
It was tough to watch. I was rooting for her for sure. Great video on her about her sponsorship and the new high van she has now to tour with. Just another humble person simply trying to grind her own little path in the world.
I think we should test all FPO players for 2X chromosomes. Then we can be sure all players are female.

AB was soooooo close in Music City. He was tearing up the drives but he kept having bad putts. He fought hard but came up just short. I'll def be watching to see what he does this year.
Sometimes there is no lesson to learn. Disc chains out when it's dead-on, gust of wind takes 50' off a shot. What a game.

Blowing a 4-shot lead with three to play, throwing terrible shots, is not "sad", it's bad disc golf. Tattar's finish at WACO should be celebrated, especially the clutch put on 18. Standing there and crying 10 yards from where Tattar was receiving the trophy is pretty un-professional IMO. Go off to the parking lot and cry if you have to.
If you're allowed to celebrate a first career win like crazy, it should be just as allowed to be frustrated for some minutes over losing your first close title race, imo. You're only risking your own image in the long run.
I think there's a difference between feeling sorry for Ella Hansen (which I'm not) and maybe agreeing it's a sad sight to see someone losing their nerve at the worst possible moment inches away from their first win, regardless of whether it's deserved or not? You get what you deserve in pro sports, I totally agree with that, and Hansen didn't deserve the win, but it's always sad to see someone (literally) throwing it away at the final hole.
I didn't notice the first time watching, but on Ella's hole 18 drive, she seemed to slow mid run up. Like she second guessed her decision as she was performing it.
I was in Vegas when kj lost and it was sad to see another tournament slip away from him.

Do you compete a lot? Have you ever gone through the sting of knowing you have it but just having an off day? The mental beating you can put yourself through knowing you didn't play your best the roller coaster of trying to pull yourself up when you aren't playing your best?

Dramatic, emotional... But I wouldn't say sad for these outcomes.
With KJ - Vinny played better & you can't blame the wind for getting into that position.
With AB - Kid just needs to work on consistent putting. He didn't just miss putts at the end, he was missing them well before that too, and he would have walked away with a large separation win if he was a little more consistent on the green.
And when Kyle Kline is on, you've got to play flawlessly to beat him.
Ella, yes, I did feel sad for her, but I felt excited for KT since she had to be nearly perfect to make that comeback a reality.
Watching Ella Hansen was one of my favorite moments to the year. She quickly became a favorite and I look forward to seeing her lift a trophy somewhere one day.

Just today I was tied with my personal best on the last hole of my local course. 9,5m (30ft) for the birdie and the record. Missed it left side, slid on ice to 3m (9ft). Well, I had that to play the course for the first time bogey free. But the basket had another idea. A spit out from the pole on a really low velocity putt, off the chains/pole, on top of the rim, slowly dropping out. F that basket.

Eagle is such a good guy, even though it wasn’t his fault the disc hit the catch cam guy, you can see how terrible he felt about it
It is definitely not sad for the fans. Look how close the scores have been all year on every tournament. The pros and the tournaments are the best in years.

If AB can get start getting more consistent putting, he will be a problem on your for years. He’s almost always in position to birdie but his putting is streaky and we can’t ever know if he will make them or not
So this is the new standard? We're supposed to be sad when a professional athlete chokes? 18 holes per round, gotta show up for all of them to win. Feel sorry for the guy that got hit in the head.
Love Ella. Such a competitor. My daughter played sports in her youth and a lot of times I was one of the coaches of her teams because she always seemed to be one of the better athletes. I learned a lot about girls in those years and in particular, girls that like athletic competition. Girls are hyper competitive and I would contend they are more competitive than boys in general. BUT what I loved most always their ability to get emotional about the game plus or minus. In other words it's "ok" if they cry and I think that is a good thing.

Call me a dick but I always find it funny when FPO loses they cry, need to be comforted.
Barela stays mad and pitches little hissy fits after making the smallest of mistakes. I’m so tired of the endless praise for Barela from commentators when we’ve been shown time and again he doesn’t have the mental game to get a win at this time.
I usually give young up-and-comers some slack, but yeah, I'm leaning towards agreeing. He's gotta get his act together real soon if he wants titles and/or fans.
You gotta love seeing a classic blowup.. Big L for Ella Hansen. Completely succumbed to the nerves on those last 3 holes.. terrible mental game. Hopefully she learns the lesson to pack and compartmentlize the emotions
Sad? Please. Blowing a four shot lead with four holes to play is just a choke job. Being able to close it out is what separates winners from the rest of the field. The camera guy getting tagged is the only situation that qualifies as "sad." The rest of the stuff is not sad at all... it's just not being able to handle the pressure. It's just the nature of competitive sports. You either learn from it, or you don't.
Tattar did a fantastic finish, Hanson did not. 🤷♂
Actually it was 4 strokes in 3 holes. Ella went bogey bogey bogey while KT went birdie par birdie, a 5 stroke swing in 3 holes.

Where is the sad part? This is just competitors losing to other competitors. That isn't sad, it's competition. Would you rather the winner just always had a commanding lead and was never threatened? It's like saying it's sad that the Patriots lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl after not being beat all year. That's literally the best part of sports. Upsets and comebacks. Doesn't make it sad.

Jesus, based on the comments ball golfers have started playing disc golf in droves. Losing is part of competition, no shit. Doesn't mean it isn't sad. You not being good enough to compete in B-tier events is sad too - I get it - but it's not always about you.
Your dig at golfers is pointless. Most of these sad moments are weekly occurrences at every level of pro golf, where the competition is stacked and nobody is surprised to have a winner in the clubhouse or a “chase card” several groups ahead of the final pairing winning. Every single week someone loses a tournament they could have won because their putting didn’t get the job done. And yet with how common it is, every golfer feels that pain and knows that heartbreak. You ever seen Faldo consoling Norman after he collapsed and Faldo won? Or just last year when Rory consoled Sheffler’s dad at the Fed Ex Cup? Rory just won over ten million dollars through incredible play and skill but instantly said he wished Scottie could have won because he deserved it. How about the famous putt Nicklaus conceded to Jacklin for a tie?
If you’re going to complain that disc golfers should be ok with enjoying competition and still be able to emphasize with the sadness of the losers I would suggest you need more of golf, not less.

Pro athletes crying is so cringey. Most of the reason I can't stand to watch more Testosterone filled sports (basketball/football) is the same reason. You have a bunch of 30 year old 'men' chasing a ball, screaming insults at each other, getting in fist fights, and then crying when they lose. It's just immature and pathetic tbh.
