- We travel to Westerville Ohio to set up a Ferris wheel for a corporate client. In the video we share some tips to maintain a safe Ferris wheel while covering the entire setup followed by a safety inspection from the Ohio department of agriculture.

I just found this. Got to say great video. By European standards this is a very cute ferris wheel. Most of our traveling wheels need around 8-12 trucks to be transported and range between 40 (131 feet) meters up to 78 meters (255 feet) in height with most of them hitting the 55 meters (180 feet) with enclosed gondolas, so that even babies can ride.
Im from the UK and looking forward to seeing all your videos great to see you explain everything and the reason behind it all .I used to work on our carny fairground rides build up pulldowns great days miss them now getting too old age 69...

I did a couple summers on the road for a costume jewelry stand operator back in the mid/late 80's that would setup with large and small amusement setups thru the Midwest. In that time I saw a lot of small amusement owners setups and I tell you a few of those ride jockeys I wouldn't trust them to boil water for me. Your team are very good at what they do, very professional. You're lucky to have such a good team working for you. Not many would show what goes into the setup, but I love these videos showing the quality of your rides, your team, demonstrating how to do this job the right way. Probably a hard life in this biz, hope you guys stay at it and stay successful.

LOL yeah I'm with an indie game studio that does events with kids to teach about the tech behind games. We have face paint problems too with VR headsets, one headset it took like a YEAR to get all the glitter off of it LOL! We'd keep cleaning it, thinking we found it all, then holy crap there's more!!!!

I just love how you describe the whole set up and how your family works together. I wish I could meet you all, I used to work for some shows long time ago but had more fun running the rides than setting up and tearing down.

Man the carnivals up in and around reading pa they use generators inside of a semi trailers to power the carnival.

My thoughts on what might be ment by "Self Grounded" is that the Generator are grounded to the trailor from the generator. Simaler to how Automobiles (at least ones made in the USA) are grounded to the battery to the motor/Engine block. Then the body and frame are grounded. The frame is grounded to the motor/ engine block. I think the body is grounded to the frame also. I think the generators are grounded in a simaler way and also have the external grounding option also. This is just my thoughts/guess.
Self grounded ? That's a new one on me . With 30 plus years in the electrical and entertainment industrys I have never heard of this. So my only question is that by having neutral and ground bonded the whole system assumes a grounded status when and only when the generator is connected to an existing properly grounded system such as is the case in à buildin back up situation. In any other case there would be no path to ground since the generator is on a trailer with rubber tiers. I believe NEC states separately derived systems must be grounded
Back in the day when IBM was big our show had the contract to provide rides and 2 games and 1 sausage joint everything was free for the employees and they even catered lunch for the carnival personnel and they paid the show 1 million dollars for each event there were 4 !

Here in the NW Oregon, Washington, our Shows requirements are when setting up the rides OSHA has us wear hard hats for safety.
We also use the 100/150 amp cam locks in live sound ....Are you just running 6/4 SOO or do you run 4/4 SOO for that ride ? We also use ground rods . We try and avoid GFI breakers at all cost if we can..Since we are on grass most of the time the GFI breakers see moisture(DEW) and pop all of the time ....
I'm betting a headlight polishing kit would fix that plexiglass.
To get that face, paint off your gondolas. Try Nail polish remover it's acetone that might work
Would lifting the back leg have given the tyre better traction or is it always the front leg that has to come up to align the rim and tyre

Portable equipment is covered under a completely different electrical code. I am thinking NEC 525. Also I believe the ground rods have to be no closer than 8 feet apart.
you should have the tit o world ride and starship 2000 and if you ever get a change to do ontario canada it be cool check out checkers fun factory.com spieder you in one post in my heart the the sizzler ride or the century wheel. use hot boiling vinger with hot gloves not burn hand the use dish soap or buy new one if all fail or pray with all you got.

in Europe we have l1 l2 l3 neutral and earth some rides don't have ground and you must ground the chassis of the ride, never seen a ride without neural

Plexiglas can be polished. Have you considered an acrylic polish to remove the face paint?
if its grease paint WD 40 should be able to cut and clean it
WD-40 Will take that oily smudge off the plexiglass
That was good of you to have NDT done. I assume the manufacturer had a list of annual requirements. The joke of the matter is these inspectors will attend classes that are put on by AIMS or NAARSO. And it’s carnival people who teach them during these training sessions.
I have often found so many of these inspectors lacking the required knowledge that is necessary to perform a real inspection. North Carolina and Kentucky, just the name two states have an excellent inspection program. However, most states do not even come close to meeting the standards of these two states.

People like Jonathan Brooks, Danny Abner and a few others are in the private sector now. There have been many to pass on and leave a wealth of knowledge such as Carl Dills. Dan Dudley is another one who is a walking encyclopedia.
The most profitable education you can receive concerning amusement rides and their inspections are keeping your mouth shut when it’s appropriate, asking questions when it’s appropriate, and listening to the wealth of knowledge that these guys that I mentioned above have to offer.
So I've watched all the videos so far (all been good watching) Why is it the Dept of Ag that does inspections? That just really makes no sense to me that people that tell ya how to get good yield out of a corn field are inspecting rides???? I would think a city engineer would be more knowledgeable about structure, wiring, things of that nature. Side note.... lots of face paint have a bit of stearyl alcohol in it which can mar or deteriorate the surface of plexi or acrylic glass.
I'm betting it is a hold over from when fairs were mostly harvest festivals, where the department of agriculture was already attending inspecting livestock for communicable diseases. Since there were already there, they got the job of inspecting rides too.

if the inspector shows up early make em sit and wait it's on them not you. it's thier time they are wasting and if they make ya rush that could lead to death cause of missed bults and such
