  • HOW TO REMOVE FAKE FLOWER FROM CACTUS - HEAVILY GLUED & SPINY. There was so much glue adhering this fake flower to the cactus, and it is a spiny cactus too. If the glue was on a smooth surface, it's not that hard to get off. However, add the fleshy, fuzzy, spiny, tons-of-glue factors in, and we have a problem.

    I had to do this to my cactus a few months ago. Thanks for the tips! Boy that took a while and now it's been growing since I removed it. Didn't know it was fake till I was doing research. Crazy they glue flowers on.

      Fake flowers and paint, why, why, why? Cacti and succulents come in a vast array of amazing colors and have spectacular flowers of their own. I don't think that they need any help. Thanks for watching and joining the conversation. Have a great week.

    I left the fake flower on it for about a year and the cactus grew big enough that it pushed the glue off of itself with it's needles. All I had to do at that point was cut the needles that were in the glue off of the plant.

    Thank you for this tip. I wish I had it when I bought some of my cactus plants years ago. The glue on the cactus is toxic to them, if not taken off, I believe is suffocates the cactus from growing well. I’ve had many of my cacti die because I left it on them, but I didn’t know how to take it off without destroying the plant myself, and didn’t know how badly it effected them until later on when they started dying. It actually smothers the cactus from breathing and they do breath, like us, but in their own way. All plants do. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😥

    It is so annoying when they glue flowers on cactus. I only buy the ones with flowers glued on when they're on clearance and then get frustrated trying to get the glob of glue off without major damage to the cactus.

    • @veggedout1030
      @veggedout1030  Před 7 lety +1

      Annoying indeed. Yeah, if these would've been more than a dollar a piece, I wouldn't have bought them. If they insist on gluing the "flowers" on, a dab will do. They will stay put just fine. Most people aren't putting their cacti out in hurricane strength winds.

  • @cactusislandnurseryflorida

    For hot glued flowers suspended in needles above areole, a hot woodburning tool with a needle tip and some patience will free the glue mass in a few passes. Subsequent passes will clean needles of glue. Wish they would just use rubber cement instead of hot glue.

    To the people who say not to use heat guns I say this. They can live in constant 110°+ weather scorching in front of the sun all day long. I promise 10 minutes of heat isn't going to hurt your plant. If it does, I'll buy you a new one! (Clearly I'm not gonna be buying anyone's cacti for them, because heat isn't going to hurt yours)

      LexusVIP 400 Most can’t actually, select species can survive that yes however most not not out in the open with exceptions such as Ferocactus or Carnegiea species, yes this heat gun can work well if done right and responsibly but there is still a lot of risk with scorching the tissue especially with species like this Mammillaria in the video or commonly seen Echinopsis, Opuntia, etc.

      I don't know how harmful the fake flowers are to the cactus. I just don't like them. They might fall off over time, as the cactus grows, but I don't know that for sure. However, this flower was so heavily glued on that it would probably inhibit growth. .

    The videos really helpful thanks,But the heat gun actualy kills the cacti sells when the temperature changes to quickly.

  • @aspirativemusicproduction2135

    They don't want to sell boring cactus but they could use glues that are easier to remove. I didn't like the fake flower and I just used scissors to remove it. It took awhile. Fortunately the only damage was few spikes missing. I believe if you leave the cactus with fake flower the glue will eventually deteriorate but my cactus has much better looking flowers already and the fake flower just makes it look weird. If people have patience they can just wait for the flower to fall off but I guess I am crazy.

    How do I take off the fake flowers if the cactus is a very fuzzy one? There's two flowers, and they're both attached pretty solidly...however, I think it's a grafted cactus and the flowers aren't on main growing spots - is it imperative to remove them?

    • @veggedout1030
      @veggedout1030  Před 7 lety +2

      The cactus in this video was pretty fuzzy, and the method I used worked well for me. But, you probably can't avoid damaging your cactus, especially if it's very fuzzy. I don't know how imperative it is to remove fake flowers. I just don't like them. They might just fall off over time, as the cactus grows, but I don't know that for sure. Many thanks, and have a great weekend.

    what a scam!! Had no idea this was done. I almost gave one as a gift to someone very special, specifically because of the flowers. Good thing i found out in time. I would have been sooo embarrassed! In the store nowhere did it say these were fake! I would think this is illegal to knowingly fool customers like this. And whoever heard of selling plants with fake flowers!! I don't know if i should laugh or cry

    These aren't fake flowers. They come from a real plant, the strawflower plant but these are harvested from the plant then are GLUED on most cacti species. As being a long lasting colourful plant that open and close even when dead and chopped off it's stem, this is why they are used for selling CRUEL cacti purposes. But when cacti bloom their OWN flowers, they DO NOT look like strawflowers and are soft like silk where the strawflowers are hard paper like and were to snap if bent.
