I am not sure of the value of the finished piece, but I can surely see the value in making it! I applaud a woodworker who produces for his own satisfaction rather than to make things for others. Carpentry done like this is for doing, not for having (or selling). I noted that his only power tools were a table saw, a circular saw and a router. btw, I was impressed by his clever use of his table saw to cut a round board!
I was impressed how he used a table saw to cut a round board, and then used a router to cut a round board! Seems like one of those methods would be redundant
When they start building the latest breakthrough, it's best to skip 99% just to see if you want to watch the full show. I'm definitely not going to use my: table saw, drill press & router to make a miter box I gotta use a hand saw with.
Perhaps one 45° angle to one side, one 22.5° to the other? Or, at least, mark it on a scale (even better, add a 90° protractor, so you can cut at any angle you need). It's not critic. Rather a proposal of an improvement.
This is the most unnecessarily complicated mitre block I’ve ever seen. I don't deny the skill in designing and making it but neither do I see the point in doing so.
right?!?! All this trouble just to make a miter for making straight and angled cuts on PVC pipe? i'm like, HUH?!?!? Guy needs some serious professional help for that OCD. Somewhere in his past, some PVC pipe did him some serious wrong, and evidently he's never quite gotten over it.
While I do appreciate the workmanship this tools is nothing new. My grandfather made the same thing and had it in his shed 55 years ago and he made them when 25 years before I was born. (Yes I am old, 64) He also made his own table saw out of a washing machine motor, he made a drill press that used an old hand operated drill. Back in the 30's 40's 50's and 60's if you didn't have a tool you made it yourself.

Clever work. I am not sure it offers more features than the standard miter box or is inherently more accurate, Typically such wood, plastic, or even soft metal boxes can get chewed up along the cutting slots over time. Definitely not a project that I feel I need, but still I appreciate the craftsmanship.
Pourquoi faire simple quand on peut faire compliqué ? Tout ce tralala pour arriver à réaliser un simple gabari pour scier. Merci quand même pour le partage...
I only watched a couple of minutes so far, but... why don't you have a shelf that catches the wood being cutoff? It could either pull-out as one piece or segments or pull-up using a brace.
pardon me if it is obvious. I did not see the part of the mechanism that creates the clicks when the center is rotated. The center circle clicks to intervals, about every 5 degrees of rotation. how is the clicking (detents) achieved?
1/4 of the way through I discovered I hadn’t blinked yet…1/2 way through I was exhausted but wondering….3/4 through I figured I needed whatever it is and I’d better pay attention…80% in I jotted a note to check harbor freight to see if it could be had without this much effort. I’m at the 85% point and so far invested now that it really doesn’t matter what the heck this thing is I’m going to pay somebody to make one for me. Ok back to the video….
Exactly. I don't know why you would need a miter box when you have a fully equipped wood shop, but if you want it to last you need to use some kind of hard wood not plywood
Only admiration for this fella. Ingenious work. What I am next to say can be construed as racism perhaps, but is well intended. Judging by the color of his skin I guess he's from India or Pakistan perhaps. My next guess is that electric tools are way pricier compared to the budget he and people like him have. So he has to make do with the few electric tools he has and... his ingenuity! Judging from the accuracy of the parts and the whole of the mechnism, he's a very good craftsman. I guess that collegues of him would pay a neat but acceptable price for such a contraption. B.t.w. it is application of basic geometry. Very well done. And a big respectable bow for this demonstration of craftsmanship and good thinking.
muy prolijo, muy ajustado, pero una perdida de tiempo, y materiales , por lo que cuesta el ruleman y los tornillos podes conseguir una ingleteadora en la ferreteria
You just don't get it.... I would bet the farm you're not a craftsman. ANYONE can go buy a piece of sh!t Harbor Freight miter box..! Not many can build one like this. Craftsman and builders appreciate these type of things.
don't forget about the magic number of 22.5° this number can build six sided buildings. exactly half of 45° want a nother magic number divide 22.5 in half. wow. a sixteen sided building.
It's also an infinitely adjustable miter box designed for a thin-blade Japanese-style pull saw. A $4 miter box is plastic (I have one and I don't use it) or made for thicker blade saws. It's a lot to go through, but I see the value.

very nice work i enjoyed watching
My favorite tidbit out of this was the use of a step drill as a way to jam a standard bolt into wood. Very nicely done overall.
We already have this at Lowes & Home Depot for $9.95.

I love your comment as much as I love his creation - it is ingenious

@@tonybussey8763 He didn't need the inner round disc when using the router but the outer parts to fit the previously made tablesaw discs seemlessly.

well that was a letdown, it's a pretty miter box, definitely a device i've known before, what a waste.
Who writes the headlines for this? While it is a skilled build, there’s no discovery here
A chop saw would have been cheaper than using all that plywood.
Very nice work. Now You need to Drill some pins to lock it in position. 👏👏
This would be great for parts or trim that's too small for a regular electric chop saw.
Luar biasa👍👍
its called a miter box, been around for many decades, maybe centuries.

A lot of work and effort, but after a few cuts, that channel in the wooden miter will widen and will no longer be precise.

Cant lock the angle while cutting
Amazing!!!!
What glue is this?!
Thank you!!!
I apply with yellow glue
That was a long way to go for a miter box that only cuts 90 and 45 degree angles.
The value is not just in the finished product ^^
Maybe so but, it sure is classy.

All this effort. Just to get a mitre saw. And you can't make any adjustments.
But you must give 10/10 for the effort in making it plus I liked it
All that time making that! The time could have been spent on learning how to saw in a straight line instead!
why dont you have a picture of what is going to be made to make it easier to follow what you are doing?
