This is a great idea! BUT, if someone can't be bothered to do the wire, or doesn't want wire on their tutu, when I was doing a dance recital what we did to get our tutu's stiff was to hold them upside down and coat them with strong hair spray!
I'm a seamstress, and maybe if you put the wire BETWEEN the two bottom layers it won't show so much? Great idea!
put the wire on the next layer up and quilt the tutu, so no wire will show even when doing upside down moves.
No problem! It was definitely frustrating trying to figure out how to make it stiff.

It’s called a pancake tutu skirt. I think this is super cute and very helpful. I’ve made tulle skirts but never knew how to help make stay up. Thank you 😊

I don't plan on wearing a tutu (floppy or stiff) anytime soon, mainly because I don't have one, but I just watched this whole video because I absolutely love you guys!
If you put the hoop between the layers and stitch through the layers you won’t see the wire 😉

Does anyone know if the tutu linked on Amazon actually has the "bloomer" type piece already attached or is that something that I'll have to make separate? (I'm talking about that solid yellow material that comes up over the tutu and kind of make a bikini bottom underneath. That part is super important.)

this worked wonderfully at first!! but after a while, when the tutu was worn several times, it stopped working, it went floppy again =~ i tried changing the wire, but it didnt help.. does anyone know why? =)

they usually are attached
if you dont like the totally stiff version thats completely up like that, you can hold them up and do some hairspray whenever you want to use it.

Theres a channel on youtube stealing your videos. Goes by Joan M. Labrie.
I am only JUST trying similar method, since getting load of narrow-gauge [2.6 mm] hooping. (After my previous comment of 7 yrs ago, made hoop underskirt of PVC material & 10mm steel boning: whereby casing for hoop was sewn via the hem. Then interfaced skirts of velcro fastening worn over [got notes on my Facebook for making]).
But now with THIS method [which I thought would be suitable for tutus & circle skirts of ELASTICATED waist]: am wondering how the sewing is going to proceed; since Not much of that is shown in the video. I assumed you would just be tacking that on (ie, just going round in a few equally-distanced spots); but just now trying: seems the skirt goes out-of-shape.
I had even worked out how to tack-on using button-sew feature on sewing machine [thereby saving myself months of sewing-by-hand]: so shame it Never worked out.
UPDATE: pleased to say that I have got it to work, NOT by tacking; but by going all-round (using widest zigzag stitch on sewing machine, keeping hoop dead-centre).
Just finished prototype and looking forward to putting hoops in the rest [tho first I will unstitch my prototype, and put hoop further out: right at the hem. It's an interfaced circle skirt, and think it will look better that way] !
Steam each layer of the tutu once that is done you sew all the layers together but not all at once

Probs abit late but say if your tutu is red paint the wire the same colour of the tutu that should camouflage it more to the tutu on stage
Well this is probs a lot more late lol.. but I've heard that if u see the wire in between the layers, for example get the very bottom layer and the next to last layer, sew it in between them, then it won't show. Also if u colour the wire same colour as ur tutu, I'm sure that helps too! Ik I'm superrrrr late, but hope this help anyway!
