  • In today's video we take you through the journey of mother-daughter duo Liz and Reagan and their green wing macaws, Winnie and Talullah. They were in our freeflight program for over a year because their first graduation trip (or what was supposed to be) didn't go as planned since some modifications to our instructions had been made without our knowledge... so, back to the training for an entire year before the REAL graduation could take place.

    I’m so glad to see a teen who has their own bird and actually takes care of it properly, I got my parakeets when i was 12 and I’ve fallen in love with training and them, they’re my babies and I’ve been looking into getting another bird and this gives me hope that just because of my age it doesn’t make me anymore or less capable (I’m almost 15 now)

    Even though this happened; Mom and daughter were amazing how they composed themselves! I would have been hysterical running and flailing, calling for my boy. I also have a Macaw and I know that I would not have been cool and calm because it happened to me in the past. I give the family all the credit for their ability to listen to the professionals, remain calm, follow instructions, and take a step at a time in the search. Bravo and hats off to you! You both are a winning team! And great job by Bird Tricks!

    If I hadn't already decided to have you guys as my free flight coaches, this video would seal the deal for me. I tend to get anxious, and it was so nice to see how cool, calm, and collected Dave, Jamie, and crew remained while they tracked down the bird(s). Thanks for another awesome video! Always so inspiring!

    The thing about free flight is the area too wide, the landscape probably look the same that first time bird might be confused. That wide area you probably need a stereo to call your bird.
    I'm also free flight my bird, except it's on my backyard which he has accustomed since he was a fledgings so he knows the area well. and since I can't whistle well (only works for short distance) I trained call him by name. Luckily it works well.

    I know your skills at training birds is COMPLETELY WORTH the price, I just wish I had the money to afford it! Watching this video just hurts. I know I'm not doing half of what I should be with my GCC cause I just don't know the techniques and training. Listening to them describe how much their birds behavior changed is amazing and I wish I could have this experience! My one thing I have going for me... The day I got my GCC home...he was on the "Birdtricks diet" 😁 lol I had read about that and knew I was not going to mess around with his diet! And I saw the difference a crappy diet can have on my bird. I'm new to parrots, so the first time target training him I was using sunflower seeds. He kept wanting to learn more tricks (he catches on within 2 times, he's really smart) so I just kept doing more training and feeding him MORE seeds🤦🏻‍♀️ I think I fed him 30 if not more! Well, he had NEVER bit me or acted out.... the next day after eating those seeds... He was a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BIRD! He would bite my finger just sitting on it! For 3 days he was a nightmare and I thought, "that's it, I can't train him" .... Then I remember the seeds! He went back to being his sweet, kind, affectionate self after that! I have NEVER given him sunflower seeds again! Lol I saw first hand what a crappy diet can do!

      You just keep working with them and keep them on a healthy diet. As great as these guys are, they are not perfect. And not everyone lives close to them. They do put alot of videos out and I truly believe and hope they are wanting to share what they know for the sake of others with birds. They seem to be genuine to want to help as much as they can without seeking profit. Some things are just best in person.

    • @lova368
      @lova368 Před rokem

      I think the crappy diet u mentioned is called high fat high protein, bird, when eat high protein and abundant food might get hormonal really fast. Bird kept in house should limit their seed intake.And this is more important to birds in cockcatoo family because their beak will cause you harm A Lot when they go hormonal or high.

    • @chawntelh
      @chawntelh Před rokem

      @@lova368 No, the crappy diet is what you are talking about. Giving them an unlimited supply of seeds!
      I'm sure you had had bird's for a long time. But Dave and Jamie have been doing this but with RESEARCH AND DATA to back them up. They have been researching bird diets for at least 15yrs and they have a few collages to help with the data. That's how they came up with the Seasonal Feeding diet. Seeds should only be like 30% of their overall diet. So, I'm sorry, but I'll stick with the proven methods!
      And as I said in my message, when my GCC was on ONLY SEEDS, that's when he was HORRIBLY mean and bit me! I changed his diet to what Dave and Jamie recommend and within 48 hrs he was a completely different bird! A seed only diet is crap!

    Actually kinda looked like Winnie was pissed off with the GPS transmitter and getting fiddled with when she took off, making the gps kind of a self-fufilling prophecy. Cueing her to fly to owner right away before she got pissed off might have helped and would have distracted her from the transmitter.. Liz and Reagan talking about diet after kinda pointed out that as.possible pisser-offer cause. Don't cut training corners . . . especially if you don't have a gps.
