It's also worth noting that the air sus compressor is a serviceable part; every year or two it's worth changing the seals in the pump and valve block as well as replacing the dessicant bag. Doing both of these things will vastly prolong the life of the whole air sus system

Great review, and I love the scenery! The reason the ride is 'a bit crashy' is that the 4.4 litre and the supercharged petrol are fitted with the active anti roll bars. The 3.0 TDV6 is not fitted with them and has a better smoother ride, but not everybody likes it because it leans more in the corners.

      @Jon-zj2nj Před 3 lety +2

Coming from two previous Discovery 4’s, I tried out both systems before I bought my current RR.
The 3.0 rolled much more in corners than the D4, while the 4.4’s roll just seemed normal. I couldn’t tell any difference in ride quality and in the 93,000 miles that I’ve done in it since, I haven’t been able to fault the ride.
Ride quality in RR’s seems much more badly effected by the pointlessly over sized wheels and low profile tyres that many of them leave the factory with!
If someone has a 5.0 or 4.4, with 20” rims AND a crashy ride, then there’s something wrong with it. My first port of call would be checking the anti roll bar bushes 👍

Nice review. I bought my 2013 (2014 model) L405 Autobiography in January. I had a 2003 L322 Vogue and a Vogue in the 1980s. I loved all of them. You are spot on with the way the car makes you feel. Since most driving nowadays is about moving slowly on crowded roads it’s a very comfortable and quiet place to be. It’s my chill out space. You don’t need to go fast as you can waft along in comfort. My problem is where to go next. Newer ones are much dearer and even the latest model isn’t much different. I don’t like the Bentayga (looks and poor rear seating). The Cullinan has grown on me but is massively expensive even pre-owned. Owning a Range Rover spoils for anything else in terms of driving experience, comfort, practicality and quality. BTW the wooden steering wheel and leather roof lining are wonderful! 😉

I Drove a 4.4 Vogue SE recently and couldn't believe how luxurious it was, silent on the road too! Just a note, when your car is off, if you press the start button without putting your foot on the brake, the car should give you power for radio, heating, etc

    Have owned 2 L322 (2007, 2011), 2 L405 (2013, 2019). All four cars have been reliable. Never had a mechanical problem.
If you use 93 octane, do a basic maintenance every 12 months they are every bit as reliable as an AMG or an M car!

I was almost going to ask you on another video when you were going to do the full review of your Rover,
As my warranty starts to whine down, I'm starting to look at the L405 as my next upgrade, my '11 sport supercharged has been nothing but amazing and the only expense was a deductible payment to replace sway bar bushings which will cause it to sound like the suspension is failing. I was told by my local dealer that the timing chain issue has shown up as recently as 2016 models (supposedly was addressed in '13) but are few and rare. I love mine and can't wait for the upgrade in the next year, this review just essentially confirmed that I'm on the right track with these.
And yes, we do have some diesels here which are starting to come on the used market.

Gary Hawkins welll done ! Got a L322 too , petrol ; was very scared reading reviews about reliability; so far so good , best driver position ever feel very relaxed to drive it , very very easy to drive also which seems paradoxal ! , I have a ML Mercedes to rescue me whenever I wd have an issue !!! I will buy 2013, petrol when we know better with the final impact of Coronavrirus ; still looks a bit too luxurious today tough ...

So, you know the issue with regards to the Bluetooth streaming, not displaying the track information?
That was going to be implemented, however the project managers over at Gaydon, were putting pressure on the infotainment department to get the vehicle pushed through to final prototype stage. Because these project managers get bonuses to reach their set time goals (they call them Gateways), that's all they really care about.
Sorry, I didn't mean to have a rant. 🙄 I just know what happened about that. Don't ask me how 😉. The Land Rover dealerships have access to a system called "Pathfinder". It interfaces directly with factory software updates. Sadly though, the infotainment department didn't release an update for the L405. No harm in checking with your local dealer for any sw updates. I do know that there was a recent safety recall on the L405s to do with the door locking. Just thought I'd mention that.

uktech Fascinating and, as an ex-project fella with a family member who is an ex-JLR employee, I believe every word of it. I can understand the need to get it released to start earning paying for itself, but not giving it an update would be a crying shame (and a bit shoddy for a pricey bit of kit). Beautiful all the same.

Spot on about the reliability, most people buy neglected ones, have a bad experience with it, sell it and then shit all over the brand, buy one thats been look after and it should be a alright experience, and as you said, keep a couple of grand for repairs because, as with every car out there, things will break, cheers for the video mate👍🏻

my 2000 P38 4.0lt V8 petrol cost £1650 3 yrs ago - 113k miles (I've done 5k since ownership). Like property being ALL about Location, Location, Location. RR ownership is ALL about Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance. Mine has suffered ZERO depreciation and over 5k miles has cost about £1500 - all upfront maintenance before I started using it. Being a home mechanic type - I love the more analogue nature of the P38. If I was going to upgrade I would probably opt for a 2008-09 L322 but in all honesty, I'm more likely to spend £5000 rebuilding the engine (if required) before moving on - there is literally nothing else wrong with it. Glad you are enjoying your new purchase - enjoy it and ignore the nay sayers

Unfortunately living on the Yorkshire Moors these things are nowt but a pain in the arse. Nothing like coming round a corner and coming face to face with some solicitor accountant type struggling to control them or even worse the wife on a school run blocking visibility outside schools or the local posh chocolate shop. Proper folk drive defenders up here. Sign of the Times I suppose.
