    I am less than a month away from having my Meteor 350 for a full year. I'm 69 years old and I've had many bikes over my 50 years of riding. This little Meteor is probably my favorite bikes I have ever owned. It's the smoothest single cyl. engine bike I have ever

    I have 5k on my meteor. Mostly hwy miles between Nashville and Lexington ky. I'm 6'2 265lbs.
    I went on a test drive to get one for my wife. I feel in love with it.
    So we bought two.
    I've since then sold my street glide, my indian chieftain, and our two scouts. It kills the highway so easy, even when loaded up like crazy. I'm ranging 300 to 350 miles per tank. We'll soon be buying two himalayans.
    Enjoy your meteors and be safe

    I just cleared 1,200 miles on my Meteor 350. I’ve had it on the interstate a couple of times, about a 20 mile stretch near my house where the speed limit is 70 MPH. I hung out in the right lane, had the throttle flatlined and 72 was the max…..maybe a little more downhill. Highway’s where the speed limit is 55 or 60, it does just fine.
    I’ve found it’s sweet spot is 45-55, it corners well and easy to maneuver. It will get up to speed for me from a dead stop very well.
    Just a FUN bike. I’m 6’3 200 lbs (34 inch inseam) and I’m very comfortable on mine.

      @RabidHedgehog  Před rokem +2

      It really does just fit which to me is crazy. The one I was on was indicated 75 and holding, but I am sure if I stick a GPS on it we would find a small change. But to me it was just as happy there, but you are right the around town speeds of 45-55 its more than happy to just zip about. I really do want it.

    Excellent review, RH! Really appreciate your commentary. Most of the reviews of the 350’s have been really positive, but not too many reviewers have taken them on highways in the western US, so I found your insights extremely useful.

    Great video. I’ve been off of bikes for about 7 years. Back surgery …My last bike was a 1500 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic. Great bike but a bit big for the type of riding I did. A dealership 60 miles away has one of these 350 Royal Endfields for sale. I’m older and am concerned about discomfort…might go look anyway..ha..

    The rebel 500 balloon tires felt like floating, the meteor 350 just sticks to where to point the nose of the bike . Lasts for decades that for sure timeless and beautiful design.

    • @RabidHedgehog
      @RabidHedgehog  Před rokem

      Some of that is in the suspension of the Rebel as well as it was a very choppy setup.

      Just check out the Indian scout 100hp for a middleweight cruiser , man you certainly sold the sales pitch gonna save up for it, the Harley's do have the charm my friends have got the breakout and fatbob but the stock harley dont have the umph to go. You're right the scout might fit me , smaller dimensions than the softail . I've been watching your Harley vedios and they seem to need more input if you need to get away from the lights, might keep the 350 meteor for like 2-3 years and sell it to get the indian scout.

    as to holding speed at 72-75, yes its electronically governed, the engine could probably do more if allowed

    • @RabidHedgehog
      @RabidHedgehog  Před rokem +1

      Yeah it felt like it had more to offer but just stuck, very similar to the FTR which is hard limited in any gear to stop you at 124. I honestly believe it is to keep the engine from an over rev state for a long period of time for reliability purposes since engineers know darn well we the motorcyclists will try every single limit.

      32/32 unloaded and 32/36 psi loaded. Fuel... I only put 91 octane in it and never thought to look in the book.

    Nice review, I have had my eyes on a MG V85TT. I am just shy of 6" 5" and since losing weight around 270lbs. I have the same inseam as you do. I plan to use it as both a commuter and also a Tourer when my big tourer is not as advantageous or I will be on unsealed pavement often. I was wondering how you like it and is it reliable.

    I gotta say nice bike , got my rebel 500 wanted a bigger bike maybe a ninja 400 ,ninja 650 or even a middleweight cruiser since I'm a shortie at 5'4 and sold the rebel for a royal Enfield's meteor 350. I just tried my friends softtail deluxe and felt I needed something like that but not too punchy.

    • @RabidHedgehog
      @RabidHedgehog  Před rokem

      A good secondary might be an Indian Scout/Chief as well. The Scout being that it is lower and narrower than the Softtail, the Chief would be in line with that as well in terms of size. They do have some punch to them as well like the 114 Deluxe.

    As someone who is considering "downsizing" to the Meteor 350 and lives in N. Edmond, you had no issues with top speed? I won't be taking it on I-35 but would like to cruise to Pops and Rt 66 and have plenty of power to do so. *Edit. Hey, that's my church on the right at 18:49! BTW, Eurotek is now a Royal Enfield dealer.

    • @RabidHedgehog
      @RabidHedgehog  Před rokem

      Yep it will do Pops very well. I take it out to Arcadia all the time. Top end speed is 75 period on mine and I've gone I-35 down to downtown OKC frequently from Logan County with no issue. For what you're looking to do it is perfect.

      That is interesting. Thanks for the insight on that. I felt no wind or anything and trust me that AGV helmet is so loud that when I bought the Shoei I am using when not filming I think I went deaf practically. So I would have known if there was some wind.

  • @ShikiKaze
    @ShikiKaze Před rokem +2

    I think the only downside for me to commit to a Meteor 350 is the top speed (If it was a 400cc and top speed of 85mph it would be perfect). Luckily they will be releasing globally the Super Meteor 650. Will probably see it out by 2024' Given US is always the last to get any international models.

    • @RabidHedgehog
      @RabidHedgehog  Před rokem +2

      I am a fan of their decision to make the Super Meteor, though for some reason calling it the Comet may have been a little better? I mean we could just all mode the sticker to say Super Mario too, but ya know. But I cannot wait for that one to come out. My favorite rides so far from Royal Enfield were the 650 Interceptor and the Meteor so literally combining the two is dangerous for my wallet.

  • @GregSmith-xe3yp
    @GregSmith-xe3yp Před rokem

    How would you compare the Meteor to the Suzuki S40?

    • @RabidHedgehog
      @RabidHedgehog  Před rokem

      The S40 is not as refined as the Meteor as it has more vibes and heck, we cracked two license plates just riding around with it from the shakes. No kidding. It is also narrower, shorter, less fuel capacity, and carbureted. It is faster and a lighter by like 40lbs oddly and has a lower maintenance belt drive. What the Meteor benefits from is time. The S40 being a product of the 80s with hardly any change and a larger displacement and lighter weight and manages 20MPH more while being less fuel efficient due to its very odd 5th gear being hardly better than 4th, worse braking due to the old drum rear setup and smaller front disk up front. Zero ABS option, worse suspension, worse stock seat, sometimes awkward fueling in high heat situations. The Meteor will win in comfort, ease of operation, better handling and suspension all the way around, better braking. I like the wider machine and the more feet straight down than the feet forward S40 as well. So, I would sacrifice the two major pluses of the S40, speed and belt drive, to get the Meteor every time.

    • @GregSmith-xe3yp
      @GregSmith-xe3yp Před rokem

      Thanks for the reply. We have 2 Savages/S40’s and yes they are a little buzzy at 60mph. I was curious about how much difference there is as far as acceleration. I new the top speed would be less but how about 0-60? Unfortunately I live around 5-6 hours from a RE dealer so I can’t easily go for a test ride. But I really like the look of the bike , and I haven’t really seen any negative reviews.

  • @Thunder_Bear_mg
    @Thunder_Bear_mg Před rokem

    But is it better to ride than your v7 850?

    • @RabidHedgehog
      @RabidHedgehog  Před rokem

      Equal comfort, unequal handling and speed. That does go to the V7, which I actually sold along with my CX500 to get a V85TT, which shockingly gets better fuel economy and has much more storage space.

    • @Thunder_Bear_mg
      @Thunder_Bear_mg Před rokem

      @@RabidHedgehog I am still riding a 2018 v7 III carbon shine that I got in 2020. I did test ride the v7 850. It's very nice, a bit smoother and more refined than the v7 III. However, I don't want a matte finish like all the Stone versions have and although the special has gloss paint, I don't want spoked wheels. So the want to buy it wasn't strong and I hoped at some point MG would produce a more unique livery like my carbon shine edition and they have for 2023; the v7 stone special edition and I am tempted.
