- Bad games can still be fun sometimes. And I regret saying that Rex Ronan looks like Keanu Reeves, he really doesn't. I just can't place who that guy looks like for some reason.

Rex Ronan is the kind of name you would expect from someone blasting away aliens in outer space, not your doctor doing brain surgery on you.
Like Ronan Dex from SGA
Experimental brain surgery.
See I was thinking a WWE wrestler but I get what you're saying.
Or a gay porn star
He's cleaning his teeth though
"Doctor, I'm dying of cancer."
"Know what you need first? A good teeth cleaning."
Every time I fear we have reached the end of the SNES library, he goes and busts out another one.
I actually died but Dr Ronan shrunk himself down and healed my body. I'm only here today because of his great work. Nice to see him getting the recognition he deserves!
Hooray for Science!
I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic but this is exactly what happened to my aunt
Someone once said that the ultimate test of any educational video game is whether the kid will learn more from playing it, versus just reading a book on the subject with the knowledge that his parents will buy him any game he wants if he finishes it.
That is genius. I remember a few 90s games that passed this test for me. Pink Panther: Passport to Peril (1996, point-and-click for Windows) taught me about Bhutan and the often maligned Mario's Time Machine (1993, SNES), which I love, taught me about Beethoven.
Anyway, nice seeing you here. Big fan.
I will forever know that the capital of Peru is Lima, thanks to playing Carmen Sandiego in black-and-white on an old Mac
This comment doesn't actually make sense. Like at all.
Oh ok it's Mr Canada over here, no wonder.
@@mrdgenerate what don’t you get?
@@coelhoigorbro same, Mario's Time machine was the first video game I ever played. I learned a lot from it
Can you please do a video on Captain Novolin?? 🙏 🙏
*in Palpatine voice* DO IT DRUNK! 😈
AGDQ has done this on their awful block.
The quizzes were not skippable there.
Silly SNESDrunk, there's two rules of not promising videos:
1. Don't say you don't want to make a video, your fans will demand about it
2. Don't make a "top 10 worst", that automatically promises a "top 10 best".
Yeah seriously, I want to see him rip the game too shreds
@@nicocchi or in Alex’s case a top 13 😂
That box art looks like the parody artwork AVGN would come up with.
Meanwhile Sega had a Marlboro Cigarettes themed Game Gear.
Atari Lynx?
Yeah, that was Atari. Either way, everyone had Marlboro schwag back then
@@petsematarykeeper Yes! That's what it was. Thank you for the correction. I got it mixed up with the Coke-a-Cola one because they're both red.
@@opaljk4835 Yes, it was Atari. I got it mixed up in my head with the Coke-a-Cola one. Same shade of red.
@@opaljk4835 And remember Joe Camel? When I was a kid, cigarette machines were still all over the place and any kid with a couple quarters could grab a pack. Man, the 80s was a different era. I guess Camels have been replaced by fruity flavored vapes for kids. Haha. Thankfully I was never enticed by cigs since so much of my extended family smoked and always thought they smelled like butt, along with their houses, cars, clothes, etc. Wanted nothing to do with that.
I can't believe that this is actually a real game.
There's also captain novalin, bronky the bronkiasaurus, packy and marlin.
Oh it's real alright. It's part of Raya Systems 'educational' line up of games released for the SNES. Other SNES titles they released are... Brokie, Captain Novolin & Packy&Marlon.
As a bonus, if you search here on YT 'Raya Systems Promotional VHS video' you'll see that 1 of their last planned games for SNES was called, The AIDS Avenger. A superhero, who has AIDS.
@@Enchurito oh god, Captain Novalin... I feel like the episode for that would be "Is it worth playing today? No.... just, no..."
@@RetroPiero I wonder if NAVGTR played any of these games. He wanted to see a Tomb Raider game where Lara Croft gets breast cancer.
4:41 "avoid the game *any way you can*"
Now I am pondering how there are multiple ways to avoid a game. :)
"I will not emulate this."
(goes on to find the next obscure Japan-only title)
Going by classic RPG logic, you can either Dodge it, Block it or tank it away and brush it off with enough HP.
Then you could also cast a morphing spell onto it, transforming it into another, better SNES game or using death magic, causing it to not working anymore. Confuse Spell might work too, but that one would have to be cast on you so you would confuse it for another, better SNES game. Casting it on the cartridge will only cause the game itself to confusing itself with another, better game.
Pop quiz, hotshot! A terrorist has seized control of the Naktatomi building along with your beloved sweetheart - and he will kill them all if you don't play Rex Ronan: Experimental Surgeon! What do you do, huh hotshot?
I'm gonna buy you a copy just to ruin your day.
i sold my copy in a garage sale for 50 cents and it made it back to my house somehow but the sticker was all peeled and greyed out and then i tossed it in the trash but it made its way back into my room again and then i tried setting it on fire and i heard a voice saying "smoking is bad for you" and then hyper realistic rex ronan knocked on my door and gave me another copy
i can't avoid this game
I misread the title and thought it was SnesExperimental doing a review of Rex Ronan: Drunk Surgeon
Isn't that just "Surgeon Simulator"?
I can't believe after all these years of watching your channel you're still finding SNES games I have never heard of hahah
Welcome Morty to Anatomy Park
The plot of this game is so bonkers insane that I can't help but cheer it on. Gold star for concept.
The best part about avoiding Rex Ronan: Experiential Surgeon any way I can is that I've been succeeding at that all my life and now can continue to do so with a newfound sense of accomplishment
When SNESdrunk tells me to have a good day, I feel that shit
"And by best, I mean least worst" - wow, I'll keep that in mind 🔥
Jake Westboro: “Thanks, doc. I feel a lot better.” (lights one up)
Rex Ronan: “No worries. With this experimental surgery, Big Tobacco should be in business for a long time to come. Now pass me one of those!”
This feels like the type of game you see in the Coming Soon section of the back of Nintendo Power with one screen shot, then you never hear about it ever again.
Innerspace is one of my favorite 80's comedies, and a modern "retro" game based off the movie is an awesome idea.
I'M POSSESSED
This game and Captain Novolin had absolutely hilarious episodes about them on the CZcams channel Continue? back in the day. You just made me nostalgic for those again, so thank you.
Have a great rest of YOUR day, bro!!!
Imagine you got a game like that for christmas.... And have to wait till your birthday for a new one. And that´s Mario is missing.
"suckin down heaters" I come for the SNES, I stay for the 90's-coded turns of phrase
Ooooouh! Captain Novolin! When can we expect a vid on that one?
Thank You for the review and thank you for mentioning the movie "Inter Space". I was thinking about that movie while watching your review.
Innerspace was exactly what I was thinking of when the clip first started.
Dude! I remember my mom and I seeing Inner Space in the theater. Man, that was a while back.
As long as there's games to review, I can always rely on SNES DRUNK! I love your videos, dude. Thanks for all of the years of awesome content.
Rex Ronan actually looks like a young Christopher Walken on the box. 😂😂😂
SMOKE............... ARE YOU SMOKING YET?
Mad props for the Inner space reference 💯
Everyone's saying that this is like Innerspace, but I'm saying this is like Fantastic Voyage.
BTW, Fantastic Voyage 2: Destination Brain is one of my favourite books of all time. It was written by Isaac Asimov (who also wrote the novelization of the original film) and it was written as though the original Fantastic Voyage never happened. This time it's the Soviet Union who invents miniaturization, but they need the help of a discredited American researcher to retrieve the memories of their chief miniaturization scientist who is in a coma. The characterisation is excellent and the story has great twists and turns. Hugely underrated book IMHO.
But isn't Innerspace just a reskin of Fantastic Voyage? ;-)
Total length of video: 317 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 2.5 secs.
.79% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk".
I always watch this at work in the mornings. On the sign off I always respond "You too" lol
A concept like this done by the Earthworm Jim team could've been cool
I've been hoping you'd do this one for years. Thank you
Ah, the old Keanu Reeves/Kevin Nealon bait and switch bit. It's kind of like a Mega Man box art/in-game graphics except in reverse.
Snesdrunk narration of the cutscene is too good
This is incredible. And now you absolutely need to do Captain Novelin.
Love the Miami Vice reference at 0:58! =)
It's gotta be tough to make a game like this, finding the right balance of entertaining but also educational. If the balance is off, in either direction, you don't quite achieve your goal. Maybe that explains why there are so many meh educational video games.
The doom guy sprite in the top left looks like the hoff
"It could have worked if it didn't suck so badly"
I love it !
We’re totally getting a Captain Noviln video!
Quick answer to this question? No. Now, this is a great excuse to watch more content from SNESDRUNK.
"This is actually a cool idea for a game" - Well, yeah, they basically just swiped the concept of Fantastic Journey.
I’ve had nightmares that looked like this.
Seems like a long time since we had an actual "SNES DRUNK".
I still like the variety. How about
"Amiga Drunk"?
Man the 90s were wild 😂
You had me at Lebaron. Great vid. Keep the awesome content coming. Stay Happy and Healthy
As a diabetic, I demand that you play Captain novolin for this channel because I told you to.
That closing music, hahaha
I've never heard of this game before, but reading the question "Is Rex Ronan: Experimental Surgeon Worth Playing Today?" i figured out the answer could only be a "DEFINITELY NOT."
I work for a company that gets government grants to make educational games for classrooms to teach extremely specific school lesson. I can only wonder if this game was created with the very same government funding 30 years ago.
"Looks like Keanu, but the sprites..." (My head) "Kevin Nealon" SNES Drunk: "..."Kevin Nealon."
I was rather thinking David Hasslehoff.
"Sh*tty power washer simulator" was the same vibe I was getting as well lmao 😂
Games like this scream, "We had to spend the grant money!"
I love it that cleaning the goddamn teeth of a dying man takes priority over everything.
"Suckin down heaters" 😂
I love your Northern Midwestisms so much man. I've been. Watching for years, I'm a big fan.
These dudes just rehashed the plot to Innerspace
Don't miss the sequel, Rex Ronan: Experimental Colonoscopist, where you make your way through utterly compromised bowels while fighting robots implanted by Big Taco.
Thanks for taking the hit for us yet again, SD :D
SNESDrunk and SegaLordX should be best friends (or die hard rivals, because SNES vs Genesis). If they made a video together, I wonder what it would be like
The mugshot at the top left of the screen looks like David Hasselhoff.😆
file under the "so this exists" collection
This was definitely one of the games ever made.
Yeah, and I even heard they REALLY made it!
This joke needs to die already.
It's one of the jokes of all time.
Please do a video on Captain Novolin. I grew up in a summer camp in Lake Geneva, WI where they public tested this game in a camp for diabetic kids.
"Please don't make me do a video on that one" - Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.....
Loved the Miami Vice reference hahaha! And yes, this could have been a game worth playing if not for the crappy controls. Sculptured Software deserves credit for their work on the Mortal Kombat games for SNES as well, but yeah, this one is best left unplayed.
4:44 be like: James Rolfe -- Hold my beer
Hahaha i had a huge smile waking up to see you reviewed this!I used to bust and ask"Have you ever heard of this its awesome?"Only to watch the boredom and frusteration slowly creep in when they played it haha. You are the bestdrunk SNESdrunk
I remember this game featured at a local Doctor Day kids event. I also remember it being as frustrating as explained here.
Amazing video. I had no idea games like this existed! Haha!
0:30 You mentioned him, NOW YOU MUST REVIEW HIM!!!
The ContinueShow episode on this is one of the things that has lived rent-free in my head since I first saw it.
“Do you want a spaceship in you body?”
An inner space game would have been sweet! I would love to be inside Meg Ryan... circa 1987.
Rex Ronin, experimental samurai.
I wanted this game so bad as a kid…I can’t say I was the brightest…
I'm litetally smoking a cigarette while watching this... but I'm walking the dog, so the exercise cancels it out
Reminds me of the old Epcot ride "Body Wars"; cool idea!
In the first second of this video, I immediately thought: There could be a review of Captain Novolin…😂
The fact that this channel can continue to surprise says something both about the channel and the SNES library.
Personally, I’d say that cover-art Rex looks like Pete Davison, but in-game Rex’s face looks like David Hasselhoff.
He looks like the love child of Michael Keaton and Christian Slater
The picture on the box is clearly a young Christopher Walken.
0:33 *proceeds to do a video on captain novolin after this one*
I don't think I've even heard of these ones before. The controls definitely look frustrating. Kudos for being a fan of Inner Space, though!
Sucking down heaters! LOL. In Canada we call em darts
i immediately smoked a cigarette after watching this video
Someone thought back then that this was a good idea. Oh well, at least it worked on launchday
Thank you for taking this bullet for us
This is a pretty cool concept
I kinda thought Dr Ronan looked like David Hassellhoff in the corner pic 😂 Thanks for the great shit review. 😁😎💪
All things considered, I would take Trauma Center everyday of the week over this. Even as a game starved kid I passed by this one every time I saw it.
We love to make fun of Rex Ronan, but a modernized edutainment game using the Powerwash Simulator engine would probably do great nowadays.
I think that may be the first Innerspace reference I've heard since... ever
You need to do a video about Capt Novalin :D
I have been waiting for a review about Captain Novolin.
Subbed for the Captain Novolin video
The character's name is likely a reference to the newspaper comic strip Rex Morgan M.D.
Rex Ronan, experimental surgeon by day, Pit Fighter by night, all day
