  • This review video is of the new, recently updated NiSi NM-200S quick adjustment macro focusing rail. The major upgrade to the previous iteration is the implementation of a much more reliable push button on the side of the clamp instead of a lever that completely eliminates any backlash and makes precise adjustments much more effective.

    I have the previous version of the NM200 and the only complaint is that it was easy to accidentally knock the lever and disengage mechanism. The push button is a definite upgrade. Not enough for me to buy the new one but it would now make it perfect product.

    • @peterviragphoto
      @peterviragphoto  Před rokem

      Hey Stuart. I totally agree. I think the previous version is great as well and some people had issues with the resistance when trying to slide the clamp and/or minimal backlash but it wasn't a problem for me, just had to position the lever midway. Thanks a lot for dropping by. Have a great weekend!

    That looks incredibly useful Peter but I couldn’t help noticing at 4:33 that what look like a clamping screw on the plate hitting the adjustment job and reducing movement

    • @peterviragphoto
      @peterviragphoto  Před rokem +2

      Hey Chris, you’re right, but that only happens when I have the rotating clamp turned. The adjustment range is 180mm in the default position. Cheers:)

      Hey there. I’ve used it with a behemoth like the 1 DX II as well and it’s fine but I would not use it as a tabletop device, just when it’s attached to a tripod. Cheers

    Just got this rail, I also have the 180. Did you notice if the locking screw for the plate had resistance; seems very tight when trying to lock plate in? I contacted Nisi, no help since I did not by from an authorized dealer, to whom I have asked for assistance, but, still no answer. Thanks.

    • @peterviragphoto

      Hi there. Mine was ok, I just wish the knob was larger which would make the whole process easier. Hope you’ll receive some assistance!🤞🤞

    I got the NiSi NM 200S after watching this video but the clamp did not open enough to attach the supplied camera plate or any Arca Swiss style plate I had. Returned it to Amazon but the second one had the same issue. NiSi service told me they know about that issue and claimed they are recalling that product. Otherwise it looks great but what is the the use if one can not attach a camera? Is there any quick adjust macro rail except this or its previous version?

    • @peterviragphoto
      @peterviragphoto  Před rokem

      I never had any issue and managed to use the plates in both this new updated & earlier version. Sorry to hear, I can totally understand your frustration. The only thing that I can say is that turning the 360 clamp before attaching the camera with a plate helps as it makes access easier. If the control knob was bigger it would make the process smoother as you wouldn’t have to apply as much force to turn it. Cheers

    So would you recommend using a focus rail in the field instead of studio for bug close up/extreme close up macro photography?

    • @peterviragphoto
      @peterviragphoto  Před 2 měsíci

      Hey. If the subject is stationery then it can work for sure but I prefer shooting hand-held when in the field and use the rail primarily in the studio. Cheers

  • @danwhitton7966
    @danwhitton7966 Před 5 měsíci +1

    Hi Peter, how were you able to use the focus rail on your insect subjects? I'd like to try but would think the insects would move around to much.

    • @peterviragphoto
      @peterviragphoto  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi Dan. That would be extremely difficult, unless they are sedentary species. So 99% of the time I just shoot hand-held while in the field, except for videos where focusing on super tiny subjects e.g. Springtails the rail can come handy. I’d mostly recommend the rail for studio work. All the best!:)

    I have been reading some people complaing the the bracket does not open wide enough for the arca plate, anybody else notice this issue? I was about to but this today to replace my 180, but, reading reviews saw that issue.

      @peterviragphoto  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi. Never had that issue, with the first iteration either so can’t comment on that. Wish the control knob was slightly larger but that’s about it. Cheers

    I received a parcel with Nisi NM-200S. There is play in the carriage, the main threaded axis is not straight, it is bent, causing the movement to run out. Apparently two plastic parts are still stuck. Now the task is how to return this miracle... Don’t buy, the Chinese may do something normally, but every now and then)))
