I feel like this video demonstrates really well how advice can at times be very context driven. @11:15 Leth recommends playing a deep third to allow for more space, but @11:30 it sounds like Leth had a slight expectation that the then third man could have gone up for the ball off the backboard after it was clear the first man was missing. In that moment the third man was taking a deep third approach, which was safe and fine, but that safety did result in one less potential shot opportunity. Given the skill level of the lobby, being back may have felt more comfortable and better for the third man, but at higher levels that one less opportunity may be the make or break and what Leth was subconsciously thinking about.

The hardest part of ranking up really is the teammates. We all are so inconsistent and the short term memory of my teammates… it’s like they don’t remember diving for a ball and missing it so I get left in a 1v3 and what a save me. Like excuse me, I could destroy your game choices.

Loving the series and I've already noticed huge differences in the way people play since the new update!
I really like this update, I've already had fewer teammates take the ball from me when I'm trying to bait opponents and it's way easier to tell what teammates are trying to do. Downloaded the update and immediately jumped back up to c3 in 2s and 3s after being stuck in c2 since season 8 started. 😁
One thing I’ve noticed throughout this series is that in Champ 2v2 versus Champ 3v3, there are a lot more differences at least in my own experience. People in Champ 3v3 have way less form/reliability, I feel like it’s much more of a chasey scene than 2v2.
The "one sided" (13:35) feeling in low champ is true for the most part. The disparity in skill between each player on the field is palpable.

I'm at around Diamond I think and I'm not a very mechanical player, the boost meter already helped me alot to understand more when my teammates will cut rotation or not and stuff, overall it's easier to rotate properly on lower ranks I'd say with the boost meter if you pay attention to it.
What drives me crazy about being high diamond/low champ, is i can easily destroy people with mechs, but people that can backboard defend really well and play shadow D im screwed. I wish there was a better way to learn rotations in game

Rocket League is the one video game that best emulates my golf game. Consistently inconsistent. I'll go on a ten game win streak and score ridiculous goals, make great passes, play great defense... and then immediately shit the bed for 2 hours.

Those were some good tactical fakes from your teammates at the end of the first match, it almost worked.
I think a game mode where the players gravity brings them to the ceiling but the balls gravity is still normal would be funny.
I feel like this would be annoying more than anything else. But perhaps something like Mario Galaxy where the gravity switches at the halfway point between the ceiling and floor.

6:34, you said it was better to land sort of sideways to kill your momentum. However, usually we want to land with our nose pointing in the direction our car is travelling to maintain our speed. What criteria were satisfied as sort of mental check marks to think to yourself, "Yep, this is an exception. Turn the car sideways to kill my momentum." I'm coaching some lower level players and at some point, we'll get to exceptions to the rule like this. I'm just not sure what the criteria are to decide against the standard "keep up your speed" philosophy.
My thoughts are:
I can see that keeping up your speed would require a wide turn and additional time to catch up to the ball. It would also create space between you and the ball encouraging the opponent to challenge (which he clearly should have anyways in his position).
You had adequate boost to build up speed again and still make a play/rotate out.
The ball speed to and from the wall wasn't too high so there was time to build speed as the ball caught up to you. Closely related, your landing wasn't right at the base of the sidewall so that means that the ball will need some time to bounce from the side wall to mid-field enough for you to make a play. Again, enough time for the ball to catch up to you allowing an opportunity to go slowly and then speed up.
But this is a lot to process in 0.5 seconds especially for a new player. I only figured out my first point after immediate consideration. Is there anything else that suggests that killing momentum is better here?
Edit: continued watching the video and saw almost the exact same scenario at 8:30 but you did keep up your momentum upon landing. So what's different here?
From what I can see, the first ball was lower and required an immediate change in angle to be threatening, and the second ball did not require that as it was higher on the wall and gave him more time to adjust. Stopping your momentum is not preferable when possible, but for an experienced player like him, it's instinct to make these small adjustments.

From what i'm seeing in this series there is definitely a skill difference between EU en Us on Champ. Would be fun to see if you can do a few games on EU and see the difference.
I think a piece of it is that you’re watching from a high SSL Perspective. Leth makes everything look easy and has great game sense so any dumb decisions from other players that I may not normally notice seem much more obvious.
@@zacharyedwards2849 no, there's a difference, even as low as plat, even with 100 ping, I have easier ranked games in US-East compared to EU server. In EU most plats already consistently speedflip in almost every game, in N/A you barely see it at low ranks.

I really like this RTSSL but im playing over a year this game and for a plat 2 im trying to understand everything and learn some things but i can't cuz in rtssl the lower ranks like gold, plat and diamond don't last very long cuz u go past those ranks easily and i think it would be very helpful to try to stay more to lower ranks cuz i think players that are in diamond or platinum will appreciate that. Im not saying it's wrong what u do but for me especially it isn't useful to see how to play at champ.

C1 is close in skill to C3... that's a wild statement tbh. There's a huge difference between those ranks. It prob just is hard to see when you've already been a pro and everyone in the lobby sucks bc they have under 1/3 your hours but still.

alot of content creators will make alt accounts and then play through the rankings back up to the highest of levels it gives their viewers the chance to learn things they need to learn inside of the rank they are in.

Day 28 of asking for Rocket League but key moments are slow mo: Unlimited boost, and code that scales both car and ball speed and acceleration for all players depending on how close the nearest player is to the ball. Set the threshold so that, most of the time, speed is normal unless someone is within maybe 10-15 car lengths of the ball.
