  • This is my second look at a James Neligan LIS-P Parlour guitar and I have to say it's the best 'bang for buck' parlour I've found yet...

i have this model but with a Fishman pre-amp - it has an XLR output. I use it nearly all the time for finger style blues and indie folk stuff. It's a great value price guitar.

I have an Ibanez parlour. Love it. Not as much as my classical with Magma Transpositor strings though. I had total thyroidectomy and got my neck fused c3-c7 front and back. My vocal chords are held together with staples and I lost my high range in my voice so now I retune music down into my range .... THUNDER. Right now I have baritone strings on it but I go lower also. G tuning.

The string spacing looks a bit strange. But, the guitar sounds good for the size and I love clean lines of the style/look. That would really make a great travel guitar. ...As air travel and fine instruments don't often mix well. There is totally a huge market for the less expensive, yet decent playing/sounding small guitars - they are not just for women and beginners anymore :) ...

The spacing feels fine - they really are very clean lines yes.

yeah the lowest string has a bigger gap than the others. I love the finish though and it sounds great

I was looking for a 24 inch scale acoustic.....after "discovering" how much easier they are to play (Classic Vibe Jag)...and just stumbled on the Gretsch G9500 Jim Dandy 24-Inch Scale Flat Top...$180 on Amazon, with stellar reviews. Pulled Trig. Could this be the first time I "found" a cool affrodable guitar you had not reviewed?

Great video, I really love the looks and sound of that parlor, I can't find one in the states, do you know of any place that one could be ordered and shipped here?

Pretty sure I might have a one off guitar. About 6 years ago I was given a Oscar Schmidt og260. They have a pretty good rep but I've looked it up and it's like a 200 dollar guitar and it has hands down been my favorite guitar since it enter my hands. I've yet to play another and compare but I'm serious, thing plays like you'd expect some in the $800 range to. I just after all this time replaced the tuners, and put in a bone nut and saddle. I was afraid to mess with it cause it was perfect lol, or so I thought. Now it's even better.

Look into affordable but well-made A/E guitars. I got an Oscar-Schmidt (Washburn's brand) called OD45.... with electronics and very nice for $200 retail. It is a better player and bassier sound than my nice Guild A/E that was about $350 new. The OS has plastic nut and saddle and pins, but a real bone compensated saddle is about all that is needed and is maybe $10-14 with minor install tweaks. OD45CEVSB has 'linden' wood top/back/sides and a very nice action that can be improved cheaply and simply.

I find OS to be a bit hit and miss - but some of them are very nice for the money.

You’re reading my mind. I have been searching for this exact style of parlor guitar. I like the 19th century body shape and slotted headstock. However, after a quick search of the Internet, I couldn’t find any LIS-P’s available. Perhaps discontinued?

  • @musingsofrock

So would you say it has a pingy sound? What I found with smaller body acoustics is that you don't get that big sound that projects like a 3/4 or dreadnought. I have a Jim Dandy which looks like a parlor and is 3/4. Do you think this guitar is better in sound than that?

Thanks for a nice video! Is it at all possible to install nylon strings on parlour guitars such as this one? Anu experiences there?

    • @FlowforthInstruments
      @FlowforthInstruments  Před 2 lety +1

Not unless you change the nut and saddle - the strings spacing will be cluttered too.

  • @roenvalenzuela2492

I have a jn lis-d with the same bridge! Great look and sound!
This lis-p sounds great, and the slotted head is what has my interest.
    What is the price?
I've currently have the takamine g406s vintage burst, and cedar seagull grand coastline, both
    without the slotted headstock.
The only slotted parlor I have is a recording king ros-6, which looks like the 30's, but is lacking the sound.
    Thanks
