Hi Sierra! Welcome to the community! I’ve subscribed. I love that you come to us with an English teacher perspective! Pets are always fun too!
What is YOUR answer to the classic you could reread for the first time? That is the best question. I can’t decide between Anne of Green Gables, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Secret Garden, Persuasion, Jane Eyre, or The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Probable Anne!😊
One more question, what is your favorite work of literature to teach to high school students?

My answer is probably either Dracula or Frankenstein. Like Stephen Fry said in his interview, I think that classic gothic stories would be amazing to read for the first time without knowing the outcome. For that matter, The Castle of Otranto (if you're not aware, that is considered the first gothic novel), would've been so great to read when it first came out!).
So, I just finished my first year teaching high school, so I don't know from year-to-year what will be my favorite, but I loved teaching Wuthering Heights--primarily for the student's responses!

I love books (especially poetry, fantasy & magical realism) almost as much as my ex-racer greyhound (named Billy-Blue) so, I get the life that orbits around animal companions. Go for the PhD, I loved mine. I did a creative PhD (poetry) & it changed my life. How quirky, I will post an episode on Friday on 'the poem as a walk' which features the poetry of A R Ammons. Yes, I really like Oliver too. Really enjoyed this introduction to your thoughts. Thanks for the bookish inspiration.

Oh, I'm going to go finish the PhD! Technically, I already started...then that thing that happened in 2020 happened. I ended up Master-ing out to finish up elsewhere. I've just been waiting for the right time/places to re-apply.
