I love the way it looks! And compared to the cost and maintenance of a gas stove, well worth the price to us!

This is a warning about non-vented gas logs with the recommendation that they be removed and replaced with electric fireplace.
If you have a non-vented gas log fireplace turn it off now and never light it again.
Many houses built in the last 25 years have unvented gas log fireplaces. There is no chimney so you can't change to vented without major construction on your house to create a chimney. The unvented gas logs require that the flames be adjusted just right in order to avoid poisonous carbon monoxide and soot. The typical homeowner doesn't have the understanding or skill to adjust the logs correctly. When they are adjusted to minimize CO and soot then the flames look mostly blue. Little to no yellow. A yellow flame indicates incomplete burning which means deadly carbon monoxide and soot. But blue flames do not look nice. It looks like you have several Bunsen burners in your fireplace that you borrowed from your high school chemistry lab. If you are building a house do not fall for the sales pitch that non-vented gas logs are fine and you can save money by not having a chimney. If you don't have a chimney you need electric. Period!
I have been in several houses with non-vented gas logs where the owner had moved the fake logs around and that messes up the flame adjustment done by the professional installer and that produced soot which deposits all over the house. In one house the damage from the soot was about 60k$. And the really sad thing was I was there about 2 years after the damage which required expensive repainting of the whole house, replacing all the carpets, buying new clothes, and new furniture AND they had just DONE IT AGAIN! Fortunately they caught it in time to confine the damage to the living room and was cheap enough to repair without calling the insurance company. I suspect if they had used the insurance company for the second incident the company would have demanded the fireplace be disabled or else they wouldn't continue the policy
My conclusion is non-vented gas log fireplaces should be banned. And in fact they are banned in a couple of states and also within a few municipalities within some other states. Electric is much safer and looks more real than non-vented gas logs.
Now if the fireplace has a real chimney and thus can be properly vented to the outside then vented gas logs look better than anything except burning actual wood.

There aint no reason this thing cost almost 2000 dollars. Waaaaayy too much for what it is. Should be 500 bucks max.
