Amazing AI DeNoise in ACR 15.3 and Lightroom 12.3

  • Let's face it, Noise Reduction in ACR and Lightroom has always left us with much to be desired! It forced us to reach for third-party plugins like ON1 or Topaz DeNoise. Not anymore!
    In the most up-to-date version of ACR and Lightroom, you have access to a new Artificial Intelligence Noise reduction feature in the develop module, and guess what? It's incredible!
    I can FINALLY get a good balance between detail and color while reducing noise at the RAW level, and I see a lot of potential for it in the future. I am sure Adobe will continue to develop it and make it one of those flagship features we can't live without!

    For me the multiple functions in Topaz Photo Ai outweigh Adobe’s way of doing things. In Topaz Photo Ai we get the controls over NR, Sharpening and possible upscaling, all in one process. On top of that Topaz proves with a masking option for the sharpening function as well. Since LR opens up the Denoise Ai in a new window and spits out a DNG file as a result it works like any other plugin implementation, the workflow is pretty identical to using any other plugin such as DXO PurRAW, Topaz Photo-DeNoise, etc.

    Hi Blake. I tried new DeNoise on about 40 images from different Canon cameras as well as from DJI drones. On about 50% of the pictures, specially those taken in very low light or pictures from the drone, when you zoom in to 300-400% you see the pixels king of stretched to kind of lines. On the milky way shots it's not usable. I think the algorithm is not yet as good as everyone is saying. if you are zoomed in 200% it's more or lees ok. But once you look closer you see very strange behaviour on the pixels. Did you observe something similar? I see something very similar on your eagle picture. Thanks for the video.

    • @f64Academy
      @f64Academy  Před rokem +1

      It's definitely possible as its trying to fill in detail from the noise I believe that's the AI engine running. I'm not as concerned about it though unless its noticeable at 100-150%. I mean, if I print something, its VERY rare that someone is going to put their nose an inch away from it to simulate a 400% zoom, you know? I think people tend to look too deep into things instead of think about where and how it will be displayed. No one will zoom in that far on Instagram or Fb if viewing online and I really can't remember a time when someone got closer than a foot to one of my prints.
      If it's noticeable at 100% zoom, it might concern me, but other than that, I'm all good with it.

    I was excited about this but creating massive files is a deal killer for me. Topaz Photo AI does the same if you follow their recommendation to apply noise reduction to a raw file, but not if you send it from LR into Photo AI as a TIFF (which also seems to prevent the odd color shifting that results from processing a raw image directly in Photo AI). I don't know why applying AI noise reduction to a raw file triples or quadruples the file size, but even with lots of storage, I'm not interested in having gigantic photo files.

      I don't think you'd want it there. This is a VERY graphic intense addition. I had to record it 3 times in fact because it was slowing down my machine and wreaking havoc on my recording software. I have 256 gigs of Ram, a 24 core processor, and an 8 gig video card and still had issues trying to record my screen and use this new addition.

      Well it isn’t any slower on my 5K iMac than the Enhance tool is. And I was doing that while encoding HD video files and also upsizing video files with Topaz Video Ai and browsing the Adobe Community to report a new bug. Well and old bug reintroduced. Lol😅

    • @JeffreyMcPheeters
      @JeffreyMcPheeters Před rokem +1

      The processors on the m1 iPad Pro are more than capable of this. Adobe just don’t support all the latest on the mobile platform. Heck, and iPad Pro can apply filters in real time to 4-5 4k streams simultaneously at 8K resolution. DaVinci Resolve can manage 8K video on the new m2 iPad Pro. Adobe is not in any danger of losing customer base to anyone and unfortunately the know it.
