We all talk about the "Mitch-slap" but there's another recurring face, and that's the "Avi-face" when that first deep bass drop hits. Every reactor who wears headphones does a double-take, and then gets really confused when Avi does his solo and Scott takes over the bass for a verse. Love it. (It's why everyone shouts at reactors who don't wear headphones.)

So true about Mitch. I always love when this video is someone's first experience with Pentatonix. Scott is first of course and they say how good he is. Next is Avi and they don't always realize at first that he is the bass sound they are hearing. I love the look on their face when they do. They are very surprised when they see Kevin beat boxing. Then Kirstin sings and they usually mention how lovely and high her voice is and all you can do is smile and wait for their reaction to Mitch. I'm not sure how many Pentaholics watch Doctor Who but this reminds me of how each new person who goes into the TARDIS for the first time says, "it's bigger on the inside!"

Despite the title, this song is not religious at all, thus the confusing lyrics. Songwriter Leonard Cohen was a Jewish-born atheist who wrote this song in 1984 using intentionally mixed Biblical references and metaphors to tell a story of lust, sex, adultery, lost love, loneliness & heartbreak. In the years since, more than 80 additional verses have been written for the song, including some by Mr. Cohen himself and some by other songwriters. Some of these new verses NOT written by Cohen include more Christian themes and some include Christmas themes. Pentatonix wanted to record this song for their 2016 Christmas album using some of the Christmas lyrics, but when they contacted the publishers to get the clearance to use the song, they were told that at the time Cohen was only allowing artists to cover the song using Cohen's original lyrics. They wanted the song badly, so they agreed...and still placed it on their Christmas album anyway.

i think KEvin is amazing and just a bit of information Scott, the tall guy, Kristin, the girl, and Mitch, the boy with the hat were all on an episode of Bones: Season 11 Episode 16 THE STIKE IN THE CHORD Mitch and Scott and Kristin played singers in a capplla bands in college and Scott and mitch were murder suspects it was so funny to watch them thanks for mentioning the beat boxing i think people tend to talk about the singing and sometimes forget about the amazing job kevin does you you should hear him their version of THE SOUND OF SILENCE listen to when he comes in and when he stops and he does that thing with his mouth when mitch is singing and then does the claps and stamping when the next singer comes in

The lyrics, “ you saw her bathing on the roof” I believe is referring to the biblical story of David watching Bathseba bath on a roof and she was so beautiful, he caused her husband’s death to have her. I think the lyrics , “ tied him to a kitchen chair, she broke your throne and she cut your hair” is also referring to a biblical story of Samson having his strength taken away after Delilah cut his hair….which held his incredible strength.

They are the best. This is the original group from 2011-2017. Avi the bass with beard and long hair had to leave due to,family illness in 2017. Then Matt joined. He was bass in Sound of silence. All the rest are the same but Mitch and Kirsten change their look almost every video but it’s always them
Kevin the beat boxer is a genius. He plays cello and beat boxes at the same time in several videos. We fans will follow you if you keep reacting to them
The original group was actually just Scott Mitch and Kirstie. They added Avi and Kevin when they tried out for The Sing Off. Avi and Kevin were not original members.

As a close friend pointed out once - this song starts with one of the greatest put downs ever - I heard there was a scared chord, that David played and it pleased the Lord - But you don't really care for music do ya? - wow! That is an epic burn right there and sets the tone for how this song about a relationship unfolds. Pentatonix is simply incredible on too many levels...

The song is referring to a couple of biblical Characters first King DVid seeing Bathseba bathing on the roof the about Delilah timing up Samson and cutting his hair.

These are Biblical references. David was a king back in the day, and actually started the line of lineage of Jesus, according to the Bible. The story about cutting hair was about the story of Samson and Delilah. His strength was in his hair. And she cut it, this, he lost his strength. The story about “bathing on the roof” was about King David and Bathsheba. He lusted after her, and while the war was going on, he purposefully sent Bathsheba’s husband to the front lines, so he would get killed. David was blessed by god as a king, though he had many faults.

You'll get more subscribers out of these videos if an amazing a Capella with more than half a billion views isn't interrupted by a "Swoosh Ding Ding" three times. Leave the graphic, no problem. The sound is jarring as hell.
