About six minutes in you got Mitch slapped! You should react to the twelve Sing Off performances from 2011. These are the very first performances from Pentatonix. The three main singers (Scott, Mitch, & Kirstie) were “The Trio” in high school. They added Avi (bass) and Kevin (beatboxer) to form Pentatonix to compete in the Sing Off. They all didn’t get together until two days before the audition. The rest is history.

He still missed Scott doing crazy low bass during avi's solo. I had to watch this so many times and still had to read it in a comment... I was convinced it was Kevin, but then heard Kevin sing one time and was puzzled again.... Who was singing that bass...
No one ever catches it in bohemian rhapsody either. He is singing crazy low harmony with avi on the "will not let you go" section....of course once you watch sound of silence you know Scott sings low too... But most people watch this one first. I have NEVER heard anyone puzzled about who is singing bass under avi in this. Of course I ahvr also never seen anyone notice mitch harmonizing with Kirstie....

Welcome to the Pentaholic fam. Your Mitch-slapped face was the ticket. A few suggestions: Love Again and Can't Sleep Love (2 originals), Evolution of Michael Jackson (mashup of about 25 MJ songs), and Love Me When I Don't (another original). The 5 in this video were the original group from 2011 to 2017. Avi Kaplan, bass, left in 2017, and videos after that will have Matt Sallee. The other 4 are the same, although they sometimes change their looks. Looking forward to more PTX.

I’m sitting here, on my back patio, crying like a newborn baby. Actually the tears have let up or else I wouldn’t be able to type this comment. As of this moment, I’ve watched this video 5 times. 3 yesterday, 2 today. I feel like I hear something new each time. Because I could very easily go on & on about how I feel about these very talented geniuses, but at the same time, not bore anyone to death (too late?) I will just point out 2 things that really touched my heart.
1st - AVI!! When he takes the lead after Scott..the feeling he puts into his part is just so evident. I feel like he is living the words that are coming out of his mouth.
2nd - Mitch!! When he sings his first note, it’s like the world stood still for just a second. Then again at the end of his solo, that note he hits and stays on…WOW WOW & MORE WOW. I feel the same about his feelings and being in the moment just like Avi. I am the daughter of musical parents…both were singers…good singers, but not successful as far as a recording contract Etc Etc. Anyway music is a very important part of my life.
TV - Computer - My Phone - Music
If I could only have 1 of those…music will always win. It’s been with me through the happy times, through the bad times and when I need a friend. And now I have been given another gift of Pentatonix. 🙏

Great reaction bro. For all of the reactors just getting into the endless catalog of PTX I recommend reacting to their "Sing Off" performances 1 through 12. It gives you their superhero origin story and they are all live performances. Much love and keep on keepin on you have a long way to go. J.

The Five Faces of New Pentaholics
    1. The most common is the Mitch Slapped. Commonly found when Mitch is heard for the first time in Hallelujah
    2. The Wide Eyed Look of Disbelief. Normally found when you hear their Wall of Sound. Found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Imagine, and Mad World.
    3. The I Didn’t Want It to End face. Most commonly found after listening to the 90s Dance Medley. It can also be found after listening to all their medleys and evolutions.
    4. The Teary Eyed Look. This is commonly found when listening to an emotional song of theirs or just the sheer beauty of their work. Commonly found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, Imagine and most especially Thank You.
    5. The What Did I Just Hear Face. Happens when Pentatonix starts strong, or when you hear a really special note or Kevin sound. Is usually accompanied by rewinding the video or song to make sure your ears really heard what they heard. Those times are too many to list, but the most common rewind at the start moment is the beginning of Sound of Silence.

Never too late to come to the Pentatonix party. Welcome. And it's always so much fun for us Pentaholics to witness the Mitch slap. Enjoy this rabbit hole. It won't disappoint.

This reaction is easily in my Top 5 of best PTX “Hallelujah” reactions. I do believe his reactions in the beginning were genuine, but they were more comical than they were priceless. But after the Mitch-slap…whoooo. His reaction had me in tears. THAT is what we all come here to see. No gimmicks, no fake disbelief. Just pure amazement.

In many of their songs PTX gently takes you but the hand and as their music builds, they walk you to a cliff, and right at the apex of it all, push you right over the edge, but don't worry, they will always be down their to catch you!

  • @nicklenights

Any question about Pentatonix will be answered by their fans. We are a dedicated group. Each individual person is totally talented but together there are no words to describe them except maybe “angelic choir” comes close. Avi is a basso profundo, but he also has a higher register that makes him very flexible with an insane range. Mitch is a wonder. He is a counter tenor not very many of them around. He also has an insane range. You’ve heard his higher register but there are some songs where his voice is in his lower range. He has one of the clearest diction singing I’ve ever heard. Each word seems so crisp and clean. Kirstie is a soprano but she also has a lower register. She has also been on Broadway in Kinky Boots and I think learned how to project her voice so it sounds even stronger and more resonant in her later singing. Scott is a tenor but he also has an incredible range. Many times when Avi is singing in his higher range like Hallalulah, Scott takes over the bass line. He also plays piano. Kevin is a law unto himself. He is so talented - beatboxer supreme, cello player, piano, singer, writer, speaks Mandarin Chinese. He has his own You Tube channel that shows his abilities but he keeps improving himself . Sigh…… You‘ll see what I mean as you continue down the Pentatonix rabbit hole. 🤪😊🥰

Fabulous reaction. And a wonderful contrast to the last reactor I just watched who had a "thousand-yard-stare" but said he really enjoyed watching them. :)
I'd love for you to watch about 20 seconds of Kiiara's "Gold," then cue up the Pentatonix cover and start it up. I fully expect the Mitch-slap to end all Mitch-slaps. Every reactor has much the same stunned goldfish look when that one starts up. :D It's highly regarded by a lot of the music teacher/coaches/analysts who react to them as one of their best.
