Soldier on the line here! Tarja Turunen was the first singer, this was her last concert as the frontlady for Nightwish. Anette Olzon was the second and Floor is the current vocalist. This is the first and original vocalist Nightwish Tarja Turunen, with her the group recorded 5 albums - Angel fall first, Oceanborn, Wishmaster, Century childe, Once and 3 DVDs - End of innocence, From Wishes to Eternity, End of an era. In 2005, Tarja was fired from the group and it was the big drama for all the old Nightwish fans, it was the golden and already classic era😍😍😍

This is Tarja, the first singer of Nightwish. She has been solo since 2005 and simply goes by the name "Tarja".

This is my go-to performance when I want to hear this song. The recent release with Floor and Henk Poort is great, too. I can safely say that most any Nightwish fan would be thrilled with either.

yes the magnificent vocal beast in the flesh, Tarja.Turunen. it is clear from the young lady's face that she is impressed. this is a very common reaction to Tarja's voice, (others cry uncontrollably, some even faint) among the tens of millions of her fans all over the world. in the time she sang with nightwish, every poll showed her to be the main attraction. careful though she can be very addictive.
This is the one you want. Floor is a great singer, but Tarja is superior, in particular when it comes to operatic singing.
Tarja is actually quite moderate opera singer. Her weakness is the lower register when she falls of from the classival style to her own voice and you can hear it easily some time during this song. Like the part before one break down in the middle: "The Phantom of the Opera". Sounds more like a sheep. Floor doesn't have that problem at all and she is far more detailed and especially much more versatile.

This may help......It is a cheat sheet.This was Tarja. This was back in 2005. They all look younger. Tarja went on to have a solo career.
Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu. Then there is Troy Donockley who is a multi-instrulmentalist and does vocals. Jukka is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai became the drummer and as of now is a permanent member.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. the 2nd one was Anette Olzon (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from the Netherlands.( power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile)
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit live ( Floor).

Great reaction. Floor Jansen participated recently in a Dutch TV-show called Beste Zangers 2019 (Best Singers 2019). On that show 7 great singers, representing different music styles (pop, rock, opera,...) sing each other's songs, or songs that are special for those persons. Each singer has his/her own day where they talk about that singer's life and career and 6 other singers sing those songs to him/her. On the last day they had a duet day where they sing songs with a partner. Floor sang her duet with a famous Dutch opera singer Henk Poort. That was the Phantom Of The Opera by Floor you were talking about. You should react to all 6 songs (and to another duet song) she sang on this show. They are all amazing.

Her name is Tarja (pronounced Tar-ya) Turunen who is a classically trained lyric soprano (3-octave voice range)... she was the first front woman.

Hey guys, if someone suggests you "Sleeping Sun" by Tarja, please do the ORIGINAL version of the song. People don't generally realize there are two versions of "Sleeping Sun". The original operatic style version was composed 1999 and Tarja sang that version almost all her career. 2005 they rearranged it into a contemporary style version which she sings in this same concert as this Phantom of the Opera. Unfortunately almost all reaction channels use this concert's videos, so the original song almost never get reacted to. Tarja is educated in classical singing, and imho that's what she is best at, and also her experience with this version (if watching a live performance, in the music video there was no experience yet), makes the original Sleeping Sun way superior to the 2005 version.

Since Tarja has left Nightwish, she has created a very successful solo career on her own. She is not in any band. I don't know what the band is that you were talking about. It could be the music video that Tarja did with the Dutch band Within Tempation. It was called Paradise.
Also I don't think there is any type that you should look if you listen to Nightwish. If you go to their concert you'll see all kind of people and different ages.
I recommend that you do Slaying the Dreamer from this same concert (End of An Era).

She's had time to explore her voice a little more too. You can still tell she's opera, but she did some great compilations with Doro and Within Temptation. :)
Yes, this lady was their first female front woman, Tarja Turunen (Finnish). She sang this with NW's bassist Marco Hietala. Tarja was in NW between 1996-2005 and that was her last gig with them (Helsinki, Hartwall Arena, 2005). Then 2007 Swedish lady, Anette Olzon, got in and she was with them until October 2012. Floor Jansen jumped in in the middle of North American tour 2012 and stayed permanently. Floor sang this song too with Henk Poort in a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers. I love the both versions. I am from Finland like Nightwish, but I never didn't mind them that much until 2007 when Anette Olzon became the band on the album Dark Passion Play. It was love at first hearing! Then when Floor jumped in it was like match made in Heaven! OMG that lady's voice... so versatile and her stage presence is amazing! The band has been all smile after Floor said "yes!". At the same year they got this multi-instrumentalist from UK, Troy Donockley too. Phew, his Uilleann pipes and flutes and tin whistles and e-bow guitar!
Nowadays I have learned to like more and more Tarja's voice too. The songs like this Phantom of the Opera and Creek Mary's Blood, Dead Boy's Poem, Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan and so on.

Phantom of the Opera is an old story based on the Paris Opera House. Andrew Lloyd Webber created a Broadway version with Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. It has been recreated on stages around the world and in various movies with other singers.
Tarja is a trained operatic singer that rarely deviates (even when singing metal songs). Floor is also trained as an operatic singer, but not solely and sings in whatever way she thinks works best for the genre. Tarja and Floor are friends, even though Tarja is the former singer and Floor is the current singer of Nightwish. Although the manner in which Tarja was fired was rough, I suspect Tarja was ready to leave anyway.
Anette Olzon was the second singer who sang a more pop rock style. Nightwish should never have hired her - not because she is bad (she is excellent in The Dark Element), but because Tuomas wants his songs sung his way while Anette wants to optimize songs for her voice. They clashed and the band sided with Tuomas. Anette's voice was very different from Tarja's and she wasn't an ideal replacement because the songs sung originally by Tarja sounded very different with Anette. Songs written by Tuomas taking Anette's voice into account were better, but there would inherently be issues between the way things were done in Nightwish and the way Anette was used to doing things. Given the amount of vocalists Tuomas reviewed, it's hard to understand why he chose Anette.
Floor came in and was a perfect fit. It's rare that this happens, but it is increasingly clear that the fit was better and better. Initially Floor came in and almost immediately (learn the setlist in 48 hours) was ready to take over from Anette. When you watch Tuomas at the keyboards initially he is still very tense. When they played in the UK shortly afterward he seemed a little less intense and stressed. By the time Nightwish was performing in Argentina, they were finally beginning to hit their stride. At the Open Air concert in Wacken 2013, they were noticeably relaxed and even enjoying each other. Tuomas can be seen smiling, singing, and head-banging - he was back to having fun. As the years have passed since then, people have seen Floor dancing on stage during songs, smiles on the faces of other band members and general party-like enjoyment of the band overall. The music sounds better and fans are feeding off that joy. Myself included.
Tarja's thing was to have the microphone the same colour as her clothes. So you would see different colours thrue the concert.

Well this is the usual song all the Tarja fans recommend and it is great, however, if you truly want to hear that Tarja operatic vocals over the symphonic metal sound try Sleeping Sun from the same concert (czcams.com/video/E_RRMRXJWxI/video.html). It is the signature song that defines the Nightwish sound when no one else was even close.
If you want more of symphonic metal then follow the Dutch singing Goddess lead vocalists..Floor/Nightwish; Simone/Epica; Sharon/Within Temptation; Charlotte/Delain; Anneke/Vuur & Gathering; Dianne/Ex Libris. All Dutch and all lead vocalists. Tarja went onto a great solo career but does a lot of duet with other metal bands that are on YT.

Tarja is wonderful. Her version of Ghost Love Score is classic, and if you would like to check out another classic Nightwish song with Tarja listen to Beauty OF the Beast. The album version, as there aren't any good live versions on CZcams. Her voice is incredible, as is Marco's. Floor's version of Phantom of the Opera (from Beste Zangers with the original Dutch Phantom Henk Poort) is also incredible and you should definitely react to that as well. And no, you can't go wrong with Nightwish. You have a lot to look forward to!

So there is the version with the 1st singer Tarja Turunen. And there is a version with Floor Jansen and Henk Poort on Beste Zangers, a dutch tv show. And it Is without Nightwish.
On a side note Floor is a huge fan of Henk. He was The Phantom in the Dutch version of the musical, did it for several years. So Floor asked Henk when they met for the show recordings, if he wanted to do The Phantom of the Opera in the last show. Ok he said, but then also with Nightwish during a concert! 😁 Done! she answered.
Next year she is going to do a solo tour in the Netherlands and Henk Poort will join. 🤟😘😋 And the rumours are, it isn't official stated, that Henk is going to join Nightwish Next year in Amsterdam for the tour! He reacted in a twitter message that he will be there!

On Nightwish's evolution curve, Tarja Turunen was the ape Floor Jansen came from. Annette , the in-between lead singer, was just the missing link.
with all due respect there's no evolution in nightwish history , just different eras. although i am personally partial to Tarja, i adore all 3 for their distict and immense talents. yes, Annete's style was somewhat inconsistent with nightwish,she did rather well for a while. Floor's went from using a classical voice in her technique singing with her previous bands to one she is using now. Tarja had a much darker -mezo-soprano cadence to somewhat lighter rock sounding voice.

I think we perceive the word ''evolution'' differently; I perceive it in terms of unfolding events, not necessarily in terms of ''progress'', otherwise Annette would have qualified for ''involution''. I love Tarja, I love Floor, I do not love Annette. Annette was in a lower league, no offence. If you compare Floor to any seasoned classical soprano (for instance Monserrat Caballe, may she RIP), Floor would be in a lower league. Please note that I love Floor and I have been listening to her for years, and still do, but here the matter is who we compare them who to. I am sure Annette has her own place where she can shine, but not in this league. I do not compare Tarja to Floor, they are in the same league although they have different colors of their voices. Tarja is more classically trained and at times lacks the rocky-sh color touch (see Dark chest of Wanders, the lower register part), whereas Floor's vocation is rock, with a touch of classical training . To a 100% classical professional singer, Floor is not a ''serious '' soprano, as much as to a 100% professional rock singer, Tarja is not a ''serious'' rock singer. Both of them are ''fusion'' singers and this is what they bring to the table. They both have their places within the same league and it was/it is up to Tuomas to be smart and compose songs to match the color of their respective voices. Annette was a far cry from either of them. My 2 cents.
