This was the best episode in years. Massive props to the EastEnders team for this. It felt like a love letter to the show’s history. These are the kinds of special episodes and experiences the show deserves.

I just can't get over how well the actor playing Phil has captured his physical and vocal mannerisms. It's as if we actually are watching Steve McFadden in 1979!
Rock & Chips could have been a great spin off series, but sadly we lost John Sullivan. If this is turned into a spin off, it will absolutely fly!
It’s honestly almost spooky how well he channeled Phil. I was honestly in two minds about watching this but the episode surpassed my expectations
@@SobrietyandSolace we might be seeing more of them before too long! The Yanks would love it too! I was snowboarding in America years ago, staying at my friend's cousin's horse ranch. The first evening, we all had to sit in silence while the family watched Eastenders! It was another big cliffhanger, featuring Grant & Phil. I looked at your channel btw. Those are lucky animals to be looked after so well, and the cat hair portrait was beautiful!

Also this episode did wonders to establish Archie's side of the family as well as Billy's.
Phil giving his bully dad a taste of his own medicine is class
Loved the part where Phil stands up for himself and the rest of the family against his dad.

EastEnders did a great job with this episode. For long time viewers it was a great bit of history. I do hope this is a sign of some new quality episodes and storylines to come, we've all been waiting for them.
The security guard who got shot in this episode made me think, "Where have I seen this actor before?" and then, it struck me. It turns out it was the same actor who played none other than "Mr Steven" from Basil Brush!!!
No way! I thought I recognised the security guard but couldn't place him. What a throwback!

This felt like it belonged to a proper old hit show, somewhat like 80s & 90s Eastenders was about. Props to whoever thought of this!

This episode was excellent, my favourite in years. Wish we got more of it tbh. Eastenders finally developing something worthy of when thus show was at its best.
Turns out Eric is more ruthless than Phil and Grant combined murdering that security guard was quite ruthless considering he found out he had a daughter and he still done it.
@@JDillon03MUFC I think it was always pretty much suggested Eric was more of a nutter. Was great to get to meet the notorious Mitchell dad though finally. I didn't think ot would ever happen tbh.
It would of been smart for Eastenders to make this special episode an hour long.

The casting and acting was spot on. Gritty and real. I was hooked from the start. I hope they turn turn this into a spin off series.
LOVED this episode. So glad they brought so many members of the Mitchell family into the flashback.
And all of this makes me sympathise with Phil even more. So he didn't just have an abusive dad, he had a murderer for a father.
Monday's episode was absolutely fantastic, kudos again to the Eastenders team and especially Daniel Delaney for a brilliant episode!!

The way he says "I'll kill you" makes me smile, the actor playing a young Phil, is it me or does he look like a young Steve McFadden?

it made me smile because I was laughing so much its pretty spot on for Phil's character how he threatens to kill his dad and expects him to take him seriously when only minutes before this he chickened out of another killing showing he didn't have it in him.
and decades later Phil's still throwing out empty threats but never following through lol.
By far one of my favourite EastEnders episodes of all time the character depth was amazing actors were all spot on and finally getting to see the famous Eric Mitchell was great! ❤️👏👏👏

This storyline is the first time I've been properly excited for new episodes in a long time, hopefully this is a sign that the new director is a good one. For a long time now, I've just been watching Eastenders out of habit. I've enjoyed some of the storylines, but there hasn't been something consistently interesting until this.

EASTENDERS IS BACK
I loved this episode! Loved seeing the origins of the MItchells. The cast were brilliant, especially the guy who played Phil! The moment he beat up his father, I was like "That's Phil Mitchell!". They should do more episodes like this, not just with the Mitchells, but other families too like the Brannings, Cottons, Beales, Butchers etc.
Such a iconic episode of eastenders loved Jamie's Winstone acting as Peggy Mitchell !!!

Lost Eastenders from PBS years ago and tried to keep up via CZcams vids. Lost interest because PBS stopped airing it around the 2005 episodes and only a few from that era remain. Now they are beginning to bring them back! I may need to move to England.

Great episode. My only quibbles? Black plastic bin/trash bags in 1979; Peggy's sister-in-law wearing a 1972 miniskirt; VHS vcr machines being stolen.
We had plastic bin liners in the UK in the 1950s. Mary Quant designed the mini skirt in the mid '60s. VHS came to the UK in 1978. Next!

This flashback episode of the Mitchells was really good spot on with the actors also Would love to see a Branning flashback episode about why Jim and Max hated one another and also other stories related to the brannings even though the story would be set outside the square would be worth watching
This episode was amazing! I had an idea and maybe Eastenders could do Christmas Eve 1981 where Vincent’s dad Henry was killed by Claudette, as Claudette blamed Eric for it but could be cool to see what happened.. just an idea 😀
