- Did you know that around 2011 Blockbuster tried to start their own streaming service? They wanted to go all out against Netflix and in a last ditch effort tried to get Blockbuster at Home of the ground.

Blockbuster was so known to us growing up that still to this day when I see a place that replaced a blockbuster location but still kept the same sign, you see that sign shape and go "hey, this used to be a blockbuster"
The last time I have seen a Blockbuster was in 2015 while riding on a bus to a high school wrestling meet. While it was in Oregon, I don't think it was the Bend one as the parking lot looked different.
I still live in Oregon though and Bend is less than 3hr away from me so the last Blockbuster is a reasonable distance from me as I sometimes go there on work trips.
I used blockbuster by mail for years. Sad to see such a well known company fall.

People don't understand why Blockbuster really went under. A lot people don't know that Blockbuster actually started a streaming service around the same time Netflix did in 2007. When Blockbusters new streaming service came out 1 month after its launch in 2007 Lehman went Bankrupt & the recession started. Blockbuster had to take down the streaming service only after a 2 months because the company could not afford to to make content for the service while Netflix could.
