As you age your IQ tends to decrease
I think a lot of it is a generational thing. Older people are easier to manipulate emotionally (be it with false affection like this guy or with fear from people claiming to be government officials.) I work at a bank and the number of elderly people that come in to close accounts after falling for the IRS phone scams is disturbingly high.

But now I'm dealing with the same thing where my 70 year old co-worker whom I have a father-son relationship with getting scammed. The person on the other end already scammed him US$2800. And there's absolutely nothing I can do about it other than to keep up with what's been going on.

One of the first clues was the heading “deposition” of property, as opposed to disposition of property. One cannot, “depose“ inanimate object.

Honestly, my very legit divorce lawyer misspelled everything in my divorce agreement continously for months. He couldn't even get our names spelled correctly twice. I constantly had to proofread the three page document with corrections, and they still would get it wrong. The courts turned down my divorce three times. Talk about frustrating, especially when I was paying. It doesn't have to be in some country thousands of miles overseas.

Unfortunately, US is not the only one. Scamming has become even more common in Europe due to covid19. People are more at home meaning more time online, social media, dating apps etc. And scammers profit because they can give a legit reason they can't come to see their victims, travel restrictions.
