There were so many situations vs ESAM where peanut just straight up had the read and outplayed but the Pikachu jank just made it all whiff. The clank on the KO punch, the thunder in the middle of jab lock, hurtbox shifting away from the counter on the thunder, etc.
The KO punch was just jank, but everything else was literally just the character. The Thunder was because once it gets activated it doesn’t stop, the bolt goes until it hits something. It wasn’t hurtbox shifting on the counter, it was INVINCABILITY FRAMES. In the words of a bald man- Pikachu? Busted.
I feel like specifically mac vs pikachu is such a horrendous matchup for mac. I mean a ton of his matchups are already bad but pika vs mac feels like something else.

Jesus Christ the jank on Pikachu is unreal. Beyblade triple back air offstage for a kill at pathetic percents, Peanut read the down B like a book and hard countered for absolutely zero reward, then ESAM manages to call down another bolt from Zeus in the middle of getting juggled by uptilt. Fair and balanced.
Up tilt strings like that aren't true. I think that thunder was pretty fair and intelligent. BUT I agree that Pikachu is NUTS 😂
@@Okenpo A quick google search says that the thunderbolt comes out on frame 2 and connects with Pikachu on frame 13. That is pretty ridiculous considering that its impossible to tell if Pikachu uses it if you're close to him and knock him out of lag, and how much reward there is when it hits.
The funny part is that Peanut actually has beaten Esam before, and with how hard Esam rocked Peanut, it makes me think that Esam lost to Peanut, then HARD studied Little Mac just so he could win the runback.
I remember seeing that actually. Only that win was in friendlies which might also have something to do with it.

I’ve always said that Pikachu cheats, but this was a whole other level. Like come on, Peanut perfectly countered that thunder, but Pikachu just straight up said “Nope”.

one game was made 20 years ago and had a super rushed development. The other was made by a billion dollar corporation with no rushed development. I know they are both nintendo, but with how big of a company nintendo is atm its inexcusable to be releasing games with these kind of poor functioning abilities and hit/hurtboxes

Movement is much smoother and there’s many ways to play a single character unlike the 1 dimensional way you play each character in Ultimate.

@@peluquin98 It's more because all the super good stuff Pika has requires some very strict input discipline. It's very helpful but there are other good characters that can play well without so much practice.

KO punch works in the air. It just doesn't have the same properties it would have in the air

I think you can do it off the ledge and transition to grounded ko punch if you're at just the right elevation to put your feet on the stage, kinda like an inverse of how aerial warlock punch works

Pikachu will reap very different rewards for the amount of work you have to do. Ganon requires giga brain thinking, but even with all that hard work, hes capable of much less than pikachu. Someone like joker is hard to play but if u master him hes (debatably) the best character in the game.

Skyjay and Peanut are champions idc what anyone says. they take the bottom of the barrel and do what nobody else will, through thousands and thousands of match ups and losses to find the way to win. They are the main characters, not the smash gods. I hope to see more low tier mains climb the ladder to prove that experience can trump raw power. Especially when you imagine the fact that peanut has played way more Mac Vs Top Tier matches than top tiers have played vs Mac. So in a way, its all relative to your individual knowledge.
But boy does pikachu look like hes from a different game in this set. ESAM knows how to maximize that power. Looked like little mac was in a boss fight every time.

Watching this made me feel like Little Mac was legitimately untested. I've never seen more jank in a professional setting in my life. Even more so the fact it was in Winner's Finals and beyond is crazy to me. This is why we need patches to continue, whether its official or not. I love watching this game and I hope the community survives.

Little Mac is the Dan Hibiki of Smash Ultimate. Popular character, low tier, has glaring issues and a lot of bad matchups, but in the right hands, can be made to look like a God and say “F the tier lists!”
Safe to say that Peanut is not just the best Little Mac player. Peanut is THE Little Mac player.
As someone who mains Pikachu with a pocket Mac and R.O.B., I see this as an absolute win

Pikachu is insanely hard to play, especially at a higher level. They’re both amazing players, but sometimes it’s just a matchup difference. ESAM imo isn’t carried, he put just as much time into learning his character as Peanut. (Also in my opinion Pikachu is harder to learn just as a character whereas Little Mac requires a smarter player type in general but not as much time to learn the character itself.
