  • When people think about Jamaica and drugs, they tend to think of weed, Rastafari and reggae music.
    00:00 Intro
    02:00 Police protection for votes
04:40 Jamaicas join the American gang wars
    07:21 Christopher “Dudus” Coke
The reality is that Jamaica sits in the middle of the cocaine corridor between South America and the US, and the violent gang wars and billions of dollars this trade generates have fundamentally shaped its history.
This violence is inseparable from Jamaica’s politics, creating a uniquely Jamaican kind of gang boss - the Don. And no Don was bigger than Christopher “Dudus” Coke. This is the story of Dudus, the drug lord who became the secret “President” of Jamaica.

What has been decriminalized is the possession of small amounts. And curiously enough everyone seems to conveniently forget to mention that one of the main reasons Golding was against the Coke extradition was that the evidence that was being used to extradite him was obtained unlawfully as per the Jamaican law.
