Aloha Everyone! Lesson 20 brings us to Abstract Style using fourths. These voicings are very useful for meditative tracks, sound healing, film scores and even free jazz. The concept is very simple: If you stack intervals of a fourth, you get an ambiguous chord that offers many possibilities, without pushing any particular resolution. Two are presented here. The first begins at the low C, then progresses to F, Bb, Eb, and then Ab, all going up. The second begins at D, then progresses to G, C, F, and high Bb. Alternating these two “fourstack” chords creates a general feeling of being in C minor, but the chords also support very “outside” passages as well. Also shown are the simple motifs of playing the tonic, 4th, 5th and octave, beginning from C and again from D. John Coltrane fans will recognize this feeling. So practice these gateways and then explore... soon you will find yourself in new emotional and spiritual territory. Each lesson has a jam-along track
